Hello community of free serif type font, I repeatedly experience that readers can grasp the context of a text much better if the font used is a serif type font. It is grotesque, in the true sense of the word: people sometimes do not understand what is written there when grotesque fonts are used. But these are much easier to read on the screen. The problem I see with almost all serif fonts is that they are not as readable on screen as sans serif fonts. And this is again because the stroke width varies....

Libertinus made a fix for this earlier this year: https://github.com/alerque/libertinus/issues/300 The issue is also resolved in more recent versions of FreeType.

A bit of a test drive suggests that this issue with integrals is not present when using Libertinus Math.

I don't have anything handy to test math mode, but you might review if this issue has been addressed in the Libertinus fonts fork. There is a new OpetType math companion font as well with many glyph issues sorted out for use in math typesetting. If you check it out and there is a problem still please feel free to open a bug report against Libertinus on the GitHub issue tracker and I'll take a look.

Just for the record, I just checked specifically and this issue has been addressed in the Libertinus fonts fork. The stylistic alternate set (+salt) has a less snazy italic J shape that would be suitable where the other one is not.

Given that this project has been unmaintained for years I would not expect this to get fixed. I did just check this in the Libertinus fonts fork and confirmed the issue. I agree the old style glyph shape should not change based on the horizontal alignment feature +tnum vs. +pnum. I've opened a corresponding issue report and plan to fix this there eventually.

Just for the record, I checked this issue against the Libertinus fonts fork. The situation has improved (all letters have +sups lookps), but there is still a weight issue in that not all of them are bold! I've opened a corresponding issue there. Given that this project is unmaintained, I invite you to check out those fonts. Even before this issue is fully fixed, many other issues have been addressed.

This is an issue with LO, not the font. There are ways to disable ligatures, but they differ for the Graphite version that you are using and the OpenType version. These days the OpenType support tends to be better documented. By the way you might also consider using the Libertinus fonts fork of these fonts that have many known issues fixed.

I just tried to check whether this has been addressed in the Libertinus fonts fork, but am unable to confirm your report for Linux Libertine. The file ending RZah.tff is the Serif Semibold. I just opened that font and looked at the drawning itself, and the outline of the dot okay—a perfect circl If there is still a corresponding issue in Libertinus I'd be happy to fix it, but first I'd need your to actually identify what the issue is (and which font) and open an issue in our tracker.

I don't have access to Fedora, but if this is still a problem for you I would invite you to try the same thing using fonts from the Libertinus fonts fork. If it is still an issue there I'll be glad to look into it and fix it if it is an issue with the font. Note that Libertinus Sans is a direct derivative of Linux Biolinum O with many issues fixed.

I don't have access to Acrobat PDFMaker, but if this is still a problem for you I would invite you to try the same thing using fonts from the Libertinus fonts fork. If it is still an issue there I'll be glad to look into it and fix it if it is an issue with the font.

I think this is related to this issue: https://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/freetype-devel/2018-12/msg00063.html The problem only seems to appear with poppler, so the character is viewable in e.g. webkit or Adobe PDF viewers.

I downloaded the LinLibertine 5.3.0 file and installed LinLibertine_RZah.ttf for use with POVray, a 3-D scene rendering app which can turn true type fonts into 3-D objects. Here is a close-up view of the dot over the lower case i. Apparently, the lower half of this dot is not correctly rounded. There's an angle there. I wouldn't call this a bug (I think the way it displays is intended), but the problem remains: the italic J just looks ugly and a bit out of place and it actually prevents the use of the font in some cases. Just to make an example, I'm writing my PhD thesis with this font and I work with electricity. Unfortunately, the italic J is the symbol for the current density and so I have to use that particular character in formulas and so on (so, it's not a rare occurrence for me). Libertine G seems to be the only solution that has worked for people. I just started experiencing this problem when upgrading to Linux Mint 18.1 and Libreoffice 5.3. I don't think Linux Libertine is maintained at all anymore. The last update was 5 years ago. Libertine G was last updated a few months before that. If someone who knows more about these things is able, would it be possible to take the glyphs from the last Linux Libertine update and apply them in Libertine G?
