The latest version of PHP Remote File Management System makes some changes to the interface and back-end that make life easier and faster for all involved.
On the end-user side, file and directory actions have now been collected and placed in a left-click context-sensitive menu. This gives a much cleaner feel to the main portion of the program. The interface, overall, has been updated to give a generally more uniform feel.... read more
Over two and a half years after the last release, PHP Remote File Management System has unveiled version 2.0. Brandon Nimon’s original concept has been kept intact for the new release, but 100% of the code has been completely rewritten and streamlined. This includes a great new user-friendly look brought to you by Byron Hood.
The core program will remain familiar for many of the longtime users, but has been tweaked to enable faster and more flexible functionality. Core rewriting has been completed with the sole intent of mySQL integration, thus speeding up page load times and query executions. The revamped security system not only increases security, it ties into the files, allowing users to “own” files and directories, and thus have greater control over protecting their content from another user in the system.... read more
It has been a long journey for the PHP Remote File Management team. Original concepts of the current program included a 10KB system which, very simply, was designed to display files in a single directory. Integration for display of files in subdirectories came soon after. The ability to add icons to files and to specify what file extensions should be shown were obvious additions. Development of this, albeit simple, system was a very slow and tedious process. But much of the tedium, which at the time seemed vain and verbose, led the way to easy expansion and integration of more complex systems and a wide range of functions to be added to the program in future months.... read more
PHP Remote File Manage has unveiled the highly anticipated new phase in development, a mySQL-based database structure. Previously all databases were flat-databases, just files in a directory. Though they were designed to provide the fastest possible access, and in the most secure means, the files were just too slow, and presented a possible, but unlikely security hole. Over the last 20 days, the development team has churning up the code and databases to redevelop it for the much faster, cleaner, and more secure mySQL back-end. With a guest programmer Cameron Johnson helping with some of the initial programming File Manage now uses mySQL tables for all storage needs, except for the system and server settings, and the directory organization system (all of which are extremely optimized as is).
There have been feature additions since the release of 0.9.9 which are specific to the mySQL version for many reasons, but mainly because with the use of mySQL, information access and storage is much faster and since the developers were already altering the code, they may as well add the features while they are in there.
The mySQL distribution adds oodles of security to the File Manage system. All sensitive information about users are now stored behind another password (provided by mySQL). And passwords get a double boost in security; all passwords and passcodes are now stored in a salted SHA1 form. SHA1 is quickly becoming the new standard in hashing, it has a larger bit-count and has less collisions on record. In addition to the new hashing, the passwords and passcodes have been salted. This is where random characters are added to the string, this instantly makes any password a strong password from the hash-standpoint. It is now impossible for anyone who happened to be able get hold of the hashed passwords to use a hash-library to unhash passwords.
Other additions include the manage users page now showing the user’s most recent IP address (for back-checking purposes).
The system stores all additional info text and MD5 and SHA1 hashes to the database. This allows for extremely fast page load times in the file list. In some test cases, this allowed the pages to load in about one-tenth the time previously required.
In general the mySQL File Manage does everything quicker. But the biggest thing is the availability for expandability. This being said, after the release of File Manage 1.0, the non-mySQL version of File Manage will become legacy software of sorts, and will only receive security updates (if required).
Before the release of 1.0, we are asking everyone who downloads the File Manage program to help us nail down any and all problems that the mySQL version of File Manage may have. Please submit any bugs that may appear, and let us know about anything that seems out of place, or any feature that obviously is needed in the program should also be submitted.
This release, likely to be the last before the 1.0 milestone is reached, adds a number of new features and enhancements to PHP Remote File Management System (File Manage). This release has also been security-enhanced and examined by experts to locate any possible loopholes in the security code.
As part of File Manage's march forward, numerous functions have been utilized that only exist in PHP 4.3.0 and newer versions. Beginning with this release, PHP 4.3.0 or higher is required for File Manage to function properly.... read more
A great list of new features in this release (version 0.9.8), is yet another boost toward an official release at 1.0. The release cycle was slightly faster this time around, not because less time or effort was put into this release, but rather because of an increase in available programming time from File Manage’s lead programmer Brandon Nimon. The Change Log actually contains an impressively long list of updates, primarily comprised of added features. The quick look statistics for the PHP Remote File Management System are getting pretty staggering with 385134 characters in the program, at a total of 7840 lines. There are 52 PHP and Java Script functions and 6928 PHP variable accesses being used in the program. There is a grand total of 31 customizable system settings for admins and 16 visual customizations for normal users (this is a new addition, and the users’ settings can be found in “My Settings”).... read more

Bobb's File Manage System 0.9.6 is an easy-to-use, 100% plug-and-play PHP-based system that can display lists of specified files and directories, as well as allow files to be created, edited, renamed, copied, moved, or deleted. This release contains new features and important bug fixes and is therefore suggested for all current users.
The File Manage system comes packed in two different styles: a user-friendly web interface or in a more advanced and powerful command-line console which uses Linux-type commands. Also available on many common file types is the ability to get advanced information about a file. This information will include file path, size, and file creation, modification, and access dates. If the file type is a supported video type, information will be available about the video's codec, resolution, bit rate, frame rate, and many other useful pieces of information. An image's information will include its type, resolution, and color types and depths; if EXIF support is available, images may also have other advanced information listed such as the program which created it; if it is a photograph, it will have make and model, and other technical information about the photo. Also built into the File Manage system is an advanced security matrix which allows admin(s) to create, and generally manage and monitor other users. Admin(s) can allow users to view only specific files, or revoke any of the above-specified abilities (create, rename, delete, etc.) from the user. This leaves the power in the right hands while allowing other users to still be able to view, download, or get information on available files; and if admin(s) deem the user to be trustworthy, can grant available abilities all the way up to an additional admin.... read more

The File Manage team is pleased to release the latest version of its acclaimed software. The latest version, 0.9.4, introduces several new features and fixes some bugs.

New features:
- Censor password reenabled. This allows the admin(s) to override the illegal_words check and allow a file with any contents to be created, edited, or uploaded. The passcode can only be set by the user "admin" and is not viewable by anyone. It can be changed at anytime. This is designed to keep the ultimate power with the original admin; he can pass out the passcode to let others bypass illegal_words, but this not recommended.
- The permissions system is now very easy to use in hex or basic mode. Now it is as easy as an admin selecting or deselecting the abilities they want a user to have. The number is automatically generated instead of having to calculate a number.
- Added viewlog console function. This allows console users to view a single log, or a range of logs in the console.
- The userlist command was also added to the console. This will display a list of current users with their email, permissions number and type.... read more

The move of projects was successful. Due to a SourceForge.net bug, we were left with no choice but to make a new project and continue from there. And that is where we are at. I (Brandon) will be progressivly moving all our files and trackers over to this project. This will take some time so be patient. If you want to see what has already been completed view the filelist project at www.sourceforge.net/projects/filelist/ . All completed tracker tasks will not be transfered over.... read more
