I have many separate data files which I plot by calling a script:- e.g. call 'all_rep_med_plot' $si 150 5000 which, using head/tail commands, plots 150 rows from the data file named si, ending with row 5000. The thing is the data files contain 100+ columns and I call different scripts for different types of plot of differing columns and everything is becoming a bit cumbersome. What I would like to do is combine some of these separate scripts into one and add a fourth parameter to be passed to this script to plot the relevant output, ideally something like :- call 'all_rep_med_plot' $si 150 5000 m call 'all_rep_med_plot' $si 150 5000 c call 'all_rep_med_plot' $si 150 5000 i etc. where the m, c and i are parameters which define the plot to be output. I was thinking maybe of using conditional plotting, but this applies line by line, and I think what I will need is some sort of block conditional: if parameter 4 is m plot.............(currently one script) if parameter 4 is c plot.............(currently a different script) if parameter 4 is i plot.............(currently a third script) Can anyone help with this? -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/Passing-different-%22call%22-script-parameters-tp29197500p29197500.html Sent from the Gnuplot - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

And it's got nothing to do with gnuplot, either. It's a question of Bourne shell. The correct sequence is gnuplot >gnuplot.log 2>&1 See "info bash basic redirect" for the details. |

Hi everybody, I have problem with redirection of data printed by GnuPlot to terminal when working in batch mode. I have a bash script generating and invoking GnuPlot's scripts. On terminal (STDOUT and/or STDERR) I need bash script's messages, not fitting parameters. I've tried gnuplot script.gp 2>&1 > gnuplot.log but it haven't work I was looking at google, but I didn't find out any helpful informations :( I will be very grateful for any idea or research direction. a complete script with automatic definition of x- and ytics (needs
3 dummy plots) would look like this:
reset
set macro
set term push
set term dumb
datafilename = 'your_datafilename'
datafilenamepipe = '< tail +2 '.datafilename.' | cut -d " " -f 2-'
# determine the numbers of rows and columns
splot datafilenamepipe matrix
nxtics = GPVAL_X_MAX-GPVAL_X_MIN
nytics = GPVAL_Y_MAX-GPVAL_Y_MIN
# define xtics (use 1st line only)
# to make gnuplot happy plot a linear function (using (i):(i))
xtics = "("
plot for [i=0:nxtics] \
datafilename \
using (i):(i>0?xtics=xtics.',':0 , \
xtics=xtics.' "'.stringcolumn(i+1).'" '.i , \
i) \
every ::0::0
xtics = xtics.' )'
set xtics @xtics
set xtics rotate by 90
sh xtics
# define ytics (start with 2nd line)
# to make gnuplot happy plot a linear function (using 2:($2))
ytics = "("
plot datafilename \
using 2:($0>0?ytics=ytics.',':0 , \

set ytics @ytics
set ytics rotate by 90
sh ytics
set term pop

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to plot measurement data of iozone with gnuplot.
The data has this style.
"4" "8" "16" "32" "64"
"64" 1419266 2068710 2198495 2291049 2360570 ...
"128" 1852885 2137077 1907552 2414195 1779689
"256" 1218963 1766143 1391933 2304816 2509077
"512" 1450125 2217077 1580337 1610085 2081676
"1024" 1416237 2106757 1875193 2011379 2437817
"2048" 1603861 1459826 1759561 1841672 1728337
"4096" 1454529 1505890 1501415 1710995 1810833
"8192" 1330492 319961 1582402 1542753 1697480
"16384" 1317258 1512262 1578257 1378195 1579478
...
The first row is the caption of the X-axis.
The first line is the caption of the Y-axis.
A perfect output would be like the first image at the iozone-website [1].
Now, I'm searching for a demo script that does more or less the same. The page [2] with the demo scripts for gnuplot version 4.4 has some scripts for surfaces and 3D plotting but these scripts always plot a function or the data is from this style:
0.092386 0.000000 -0.291706
0.084399 0.037577 -0.291706
0.061819 0.068656 -0.291706
0.028549 0.087865 -0.291706
0.009657 0.091880 -0.291706
...
But this approach is totally different.
I'm not sure, if plotting iozone measurement data can be done with "splot". I also don't know how to import the captions of the X and Y-axis (first row and first line). It's not possible here to work with "set xrange" and "set yrange".
Thanks in advance for any help.
Best Regards,
Christian

Hi, Is there anyway to go back to the old way of specifying colors for a particular type of object? Things like "w boxes 1" or "w lp 1" don't work anymore in 4.4, and a lot of our scripts have to be rebuilt to work with gnuplot 4.4 I did some googling, but found nothing relevant. Thanks! Cheng |

Just a quick question whether this idea is possible: I have data which I plot with spherical mapping and pm3d like $ set pm3d depthorder hidden3d 10001 This, of course, works fine. Now what I would like to do is to have the lines of the surface separate from the colors to smooth the gradient like so $ set pm3d interpolate 2,2 depthorder and plot the lines on top but with the original step width. So I interpolate the color not the data. Any ideas? -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/pm3d-and-hidden3d-tp29085741p29085741.html Sent from the Gnuplot - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

The hint for it is in the book at 34.1.9.1 Using examples and shows how to use the ?: ternary operator to filter data. In the "using 2:3" I replaced the "3" with "(column(1)>$0 && column(1)<$1 ? column(3) : 1/0)" and the meaning of it is: Look if colomn(1) value - the datetime - is bigger than the first passed parameter and if the column(1) value is less than the passed second parameter and if both conditions are satisfied then print the value of the third column of the row, otherwise do nothing. Here is one of the plot commands where I used it: plot [][] "/Volumes/Data/PROJECTS/Sysmon/outs/cachevscpu.out" using 2:(column(1)>$0 && column(1)<$1 ? column(3) : 1/0) title "Raw Data" with points pointtype 7 pointsize 0.4, "" using 2:(column(1)>$0 && column(1)<$1 ? column(3) : 1/0)title "sBezier approximation" smooth sbezier with lines linecolor -1 Thanks, János |

I also would like to plot the fourth column dependency on the second or third column, BUT only for the given time interval. I looked the book, but found no direction how to filter the data, if the filtering is not used as one of the axes. Any good suggestions ? Thanks ahead, János |

Hi,
Having a plot command in a .gp file this way:
plot ["Jun 01, 2010 00:03:11":"Jun 30, 2010 00:03:04"][] "/Volumes/Data/PROJECTS/Sysmon/outs/workerprocess.out" using 1:( column(2) > 0 ? column(2) : 1) title "Total Worker Requested" with points pointtype 7 pointsize 0.4,"" using 1:( column(2) > 0 ? column(2) : 1) title "Bezier" smooth bezier with lines linetype -1
is working fine.
When I change it to this form:
plot [$0:$1][] "/Volumes/Data/PROJECTS/Sysmon/outs/workerprocess.out" using 1:( column(2) > 0 ? column(2) : 1) title "Total Worker Requested" with points pointtype 7 pointsize 0.4,"" using 1:( column(2) > 0 ? column(2) : 1) title "Bezier" smooth bezier with lines linetype -1
and call the program containing this plot command as:
gnuplot> call '/Volumes/Data/PROJECTS/Sysmon/gnuplot_cmds/workerprocess_multi.gp' "Jun 01, 2010 00:03:11" "Jun 30, 2010 00:03:04"
"/Volumes/Data/PROJECTS/Sysmon/gnuplot_cmds/workerprocess_multi.gp", line 15: undefined variable: Jun
I also tried single quote with no difference.
What am I doing wrong ?

You probably have some other setting in effect that creates those problems. A 'set xdata time', e.g., might cause such problems. |

and I have 10 blocks. The first column is the hour of the day, the second is some time difference and the third is the number of records processed. I tried this command:
splot "/Volumes/Data/PROJECTS/InputProcessor/hour_maxdiff_count.txt"
and it displayed a monotone rising plane where I could not see any relation to the data above. Then I tried:
gnuplot> splot "/Volumes/Data/PROJECTS/InputProcessor/hour_maxdiff_count.txt" using 1:2:3 with linesp
warning: No usable data in this plot to auto-scale axis range
^
All points x value undefined
I expected x axis will go from 0 to 23, the y axis from 0 to 173 / the biggest value in the second column/, and the z axes from 81 to 5106 or so.
What am I doing wrong ? If splot is not really good for displaying this data, what other plotting is suggested. In reality the number of data blocks are more than 10, this is just a test case to start with.
Thanks ahead,
János

choose a terminal suitable for printing, e.g. postscript or pdf. set the terminal size to the size of the plot plus margins. set the margins so that the plot occupies the required space. an example: # the plot is 10cm x 10cm, the whole document is 12cm x 12cm set term postscript size 12cm,12cm set lmargin at screen 1./12. set rmargin at screen 11./12. set bmargin at screen 1./12. set tmargin at screen 11./12. set xrange [0:10] set yrange [0:10] set output 'test.ps' plot x set output when printing the postscript document the axes should be 10cm long. benboxing wrote: > > hi, > i use gnuplot for plotting some some data from boreholes (bores, wells, > drill holes, etc) into the earth, so want to use some sort of exact axis > scaling. in other words, the y-axis represents depth into the ground, and > i want one millimetre of my printed output to represent one metre of the > borehole. this would then be a 1:1000 scale plot. "false color diagram". In gnuplot, you want to look up 'help pm3d' to find out to do a plot like that. Oh, and you'll have to re-structure to actually be either a matrix of z values, or a three-column data file of x,y,z triplets, that express the rectangular grid structure in a different way (--> help datafile) |

hi, i use gnuplot for plotting some some data from boreholes (bores, wells, drill holes, etc) into the earth, so want to use some sort of exact axis scaling. in other words, the y-axis represents depth into the ground, and i want one millimetre of my printed output to represent one metre of the borehole. this would then be a 1:1000 scale plot. Or, maybe i want it to be 1:2000 scale. can this be done? my depth data are not always integers if that matters. ben -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/scaled-units-in-axis--tp28998763p28998763.html Sent from the Gnuplot - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Hello This is my first time using this mailing list. Apologies if I don't adhere to the rules My input data looks like so [x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z] [x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z] [x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z] [x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z] [x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z] [x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z][x,y,z] Therefore, it is the collection of z values for a rectangular environment and I need to take those values and generate a quasi-3D graph like so http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Autocorrelationplot_grid_cell.JPG I say "quasi-3D" because I want the third dimension (z) to be a color, instead of a height value. My problem is that I don't even know how to do google searches for this. Is it a 2D spatial graph, or a 3D color intensity graph... Cheers Peter |

you can try to reformat the datafile to use ',' as field separator, rather than \t. If you're working in linux, it's very easy to do with e.g. sed. you can then visually check if your data is correct. It is a workaround, but it should save you a lot of headaches.
