[Gnuplot-info] gnuplot version number

Hi

I have a program that uses the following feature.
It does not work in the original enclosed with Redhat
EL30, but it is fine in the latest version I download
from the net.

But there is no version number difference, how can I
ensure the version number is correct, I would have
expected a patch level increase.

I strongly recommend forgetting about 3.7.2, and getting the current 
release version 4.0.0 instead.

No.  It's most probably because you don't have the X11 development 
packages installed.  The configure script noticed that, and so make 
didn't even try to build gnuplot_x11.

Hello,

I am tryng to install gnuplot 3.7.2 on my CPU and I am successful untl
I try to plot something. Then nothing appears? I thnk this is do to an
error I get; "Terminal type set to 'unknown'. I think this is due to
an improper installation of gnupot_x11?? When I do a make install
command in gnuplot-3.7.2, I geth the followng error; "test ! -f
gnuplot_x11 || /usr/bin/install -c gnuplot_x11
/usr/local/bin/gnuplot_x11".

I also cannot find gnupot_x11 if I run a locate command? "locate gnuplot_x11"?

I have tried to make gnuplot_x11 and I get the followng errors:

[root@ca-crlsca-cuda1-c1a-35 gnuplot-3.7.2]# make gnuplot_x11

What part of that sketch is the "slope"?  I see a straight line at an 
angle, a horizontal, something that appears to be an angle, and some
text.

Please note that gnuplot is not, nor does it try to be, an analytical 
maths workbench.  If that's what you're looking for, try Mathematica, 
Maple, MuPAD or one of their ilk.

Currently I am using gnuplot V3.7 installed in Unix environment.
I have a need to use the feature 'xticlabels' in Gnuplot.  I am getting =
data out of database and
try to plot them using Gnuplot.

It will make my life very easy if I can use this feature.  (if possible, =
I want to avoid using
'set xtics (..,..,.......)' command).  I need to read in datastring and =
use it to label xtics, instead of x value.

I read some of the documentations on the Web, and I want to be able to =
use something like:
plot 'datafile' using 3:4:xticlabels(1) with linespoints


My Question is what version of Gnuplot do I have to have in order to use =
this feature?
The current version (V3.7) that I have here, did not work for me.

[Gnuplot-info] embedding gnuplot x11 window

Hello everyone,

I am currently working on a plotting application, which uses gnuplot as its backend.  Right now, the application pipes commands to gnuplots and gnuplot creates wonderful plots in a separate x window (set terminal x11).

I have started on embedding this output window into my (py)gtk application using a (terrible, non-portable, x11 specific) little hack:

1. Give the window a distinct title using the title option 'set terminal title xxx'.
   
2. Issue 'plot' command -> gnuplot window appears

3. Use 'xwininfo -name "xxx"' and receive the window id (yyy) of the window from the output.
   
4. Embed the gnuplot window into my own window using the Socket mechanism of gtk; for this I need to pass the window id yyy to the Socket object.
   
This works very well except for the annoyance that the window pops up in step 2, vanishes and then reappars in my own window.

As I haven't found any intrinsic property of gnuplot to embed the output windows (neither in the gnuplot documentation nor on the wild wide net), I turn to anyone on this mailing list to help me. Are there any other solutions, maybe even portable ones, to embed gnuplot into another window? (I do not request to have gnuplot as a library, piping is just fine!)
   
What suggestions do you have ?

Are there maybe any plans on adding support to embed the x11 output window ? From what I've gathered (I may be wrong), QT and GTK use a compatible mechanism to embed widgets.

None that I know of.

Ethan did a lot for histogram plots after 4.0 came out, but not in 3D.

"{/Symbol G}" should work (if you want the Gamma distribution - use g for 
little gamma, as in gamma-ray)

[Gnuplot-info] strings and reread

Hi,

I want to perform a set of tasks such as 

plot 'file1.dat'
pause 1
plot 'file2.dat'
pause 1 
plot 'file3.dat'
etc....

for a large number of files and was wondering if I
could use the reread command? 

So if I have the variable `var' and increment by one
each time do I create a string,

string = "file%d.dat", var 

so that I can plot the file 

splot string

or am I completely going about this the wrong way?

I would like some information about the following:

I did download gnuplot 4.0 on my Mac OS X 10.2.8 where i did also 
install
-  x11 for Mac OS X  10.2.x
- aqua term1.0.b2

When I open x11 e type gnuplot the answer is:  Command not found.
How do I solve this problem?

I also tried to type
/usr/local/bin/gnuplot

and the answer is:

  can't open library: /usr/local/lib/libaquaterm.1.0.0.dylib  (No such 
file or directory, errno = 2)
Trace/BPT trap


Can I get any help on this? I would appreciate it very much.

Sorry, I'm really not describing what I want well!
There are two major series, each with three sub-series. If I plot each 
major series individually as a histogram it would look something like this:

1 |_#_*_&__#_*_&__#_*_&_
            1            2            3   
                        Lengths
The y-axis is the 'number of occurrences' at that length.

* sub-series 2
& sub-series 3

What I want to do is plot each major series along the z axis (and each 
sub-series along the x-axis)
Each sub-series are the same i.e. (TCC, TCA, TCG) but each major series 
is different (different species).
I've tried to do this in excel, however it interprets each sub-series an 
individual series thus resulting in the graph shown in the attached pdf. 
What I want is the first three series grouped together and the next thee 
grouped together.

How exactly do you want to show three columns of data on one axis?

Then you'll have to plot your datafile at least twice.  A very rough
first approximation might be:

It's still a mystery to me what it might be you want to do with
the other 4 columns of data.

x-axis is the lengths (col1),
y-axis is the values (cols 3-5, 7-9)
z-axis is each series (ce and dm)

The front plot would be the 2D histogram of Cols 1,3-5 and directly 
behind (along the z-axis) it the plot of cols 1, 7-9.

       I am using gnuplot version 4.0 and gnuplot_i _2.10.. The mouse
position is stored in MOUSE_X and MOUSE_Y variables in gnuplot..Is
there a way to copy the values in these varaibles into variables in C.
Because I am  able to print them thru gnuplot only..
           Plz help in this respect..

What do you mean by "rotate the plots"?  And, more importantly, why is 
it not simpler to just rotate the PNG before you use it?

But neither is there anything left to stop that from happening Really
Soon Now(TM).  Nothing under gnuplot's control, that is.  BTW: what
terminal driver are you talking about?

I.e. gnuplot returns to the prompt because its job is done.  If, after
that, it takes any time long enough to even notice for the plot window
to actually show up visibly, that means one of two things:

1) Your window manager insists on you placing every new window manually.
  Bad idea for the gnuplot_x11 window.

2) Your machine is sluggish.

I'm not aware of any provisions for such a block.  Because of the
possiblility of deadlock that goes with any blocking operation like
that, I'm slightly opposed to it even without having considered at any
depth.
