Hi all, can i specify color for a point in the data file?. Please check the following data 1 2 1 2 3 1 3 4 1 4 5 2 5 6 2 6 7 2 I want the first 3 points to be plotted in one color, and then the next 3 points to be plotted with another color. you can do change of the colors for EPS output through
a filter like this. (on Unix)
you can change the line definition as you like so
you can have dashed and solid lines with same color, or whatever.
my example is,

in this script i wanted to change the colors of a few lines which
were not easy to see on screen (presentation), such as green, cyan and
yellow.
lines in the EPS file defining line types (beginning with /LT#/)
are replaced by ones with my own line definition.
2) then, do this in gnuplot
set term postscript eps color
set output "| gpepscolor > out.eps" # writing a file through a filter
plot sin(x) lt 1, cos(x) lt 2
then the output is filtered by the script above and
the output file "out.eps" has altered colors of lines.
this filtering is available for any terminals that outputs text file.
i use the same way for tgif terminal, and also to get a "grayscale" EPS.

use. For example, I prefer postscript terminal. You

Hi, When I use "plot 'datafile'" command under gnuplot, the "plot 'datafile'" will return ... (the prompt will showup and allow me to issue other command) even the plot is not show up on screen. Hi, I updated recently gnuplot with the latest version(4.0). When i am calling gnuplot at bash it is working with 4.0 version( i am able to change the view point of the 3-d plot). Generally speaking, creating datafiles for gnuplot should be about two orders of magnitude easier than creating Excel files from scratch. See "help splot data" and "help glossary". |

Like, 10^{-3} vs 1e-3...
If the plot is for scientific publication, I guess a postscript terminal
would work nicely (or maybe a PNG). Don't try a snapshot of your Xwindow,
that'd be ugly

Just like HB said: check the help on a PS terminal.
As an example, the line
set ylabel 'TDP [{/Symbol m}g.l^{-1}]' 0.5,0 font "TimesBold, 18"
gives nice results on an enhanced postscript terminal

My question is how do I tell gnuplot to plot the file as it is? Currently gnuplot plots the file in ascending order and I need it to be plotted in descending order (which is the format of my datafile). Also keep in mind that I'm using timefmt for HH:MM:SS as my X axis and the decimal numbers for the Y axis. And I can't set the X range like plot ["18:00":"12:00"] because the contents of my data file change. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Eric Hudson |
