Yes, you can change the colour of the lines by setting
the plot to be with lines (w l) and the line type
(lt):
plot x w l lt 1
replot 2*x w l lt 3
if you type test a test screen showing you all the
colours and symbols and things for your terminal
should pop up.

Hi David,
As far as i know there are two ways to insert
different symbols and things into gnuplot. You can set
the terinal to latex and output in latex picture
format - allowing you to choose from the wide range of
latex symbols and things.
I usualy use postscript though. For example,
set term post
set output 'out.ps'
plot sin(x)
set term x11
will plot sin(x) to the file out.ps and then return
the terminal to the window (x11 for unix and linux).
if you want to set the xlabel to x**2, then try
set xlabel 'x^2'
You can do greek letters and things using
{/Symbol t} for example to get tau.....
take a look at

Hello: I have a datafile that I wish to plot. When I write the syntax, I get a message that the file is as follows: Util C: No such file or directory. I placed the file in the same directory as GNU Plot. Also the original file is a txt file but rename it as a .dat file. Thanks Brian |

Hi, I can't see why it wouldn't work the same way - I usually just write plot 'data.dat' u 1:2 w l lt 1 lw 3 to plot the data in the file data.dat using the first two columns with lines, line type 1 and line width 3. Is your data still coming out with line width 1? It could be the terminal settings? Try it using different terminals, (e.g., if your on a unix or linux) set term post set output 'out.ps' plot 'data.dat' u 1:2 w l lt 1 lw 3 set term x11 and then view the postscript file. Dear Riccardo, You can define the functions so that they have the same value at x=5. For example, define f1(x)= a*(x-5)**2+b*(x-5)+c ---> f1=c at x=5 f2(x)= d*(x-5)**2+e*(x-5)+c ---> f2=c at x=5, too! then, fit f1(x) for data set 1 and you will get a,b,c. Using same c, you can fit f2 for data set 2 and get d and e. Maybe, you can fit c for data set 2 again and do the f1 with the new c again. Iterate the procedure until (hopefully) you get a converged value for c. Hi: please can you help with two questions about wgnuplot.ini? 1. By default wgnuplot.exe uses c:\WINDOWS\WGNUPLOT.INI. Is there a way of directing it to use a differently located / named file, maybe by using a switch as in wgnuplot -f d:\MYLOOK\PLOTS.CFG . 2. Hi! For technical analysis on flight test data I have used GNUPLOT for a = long time. I have now Version 4.0 patchlevel 0 running on a Windows PC. Since the source for my flight test date has changed to the NASA = CDF-Format Version 2.7.1 I have the problem to read these unformated data in order to visualise them = with my gnuplot. NASA offers tools that convert the binary data to ASCII-Format = "cdfexport". This works but is there a straightforward way to read and plot data with = gnuplot directy from NASA's cdf. As gnuplot is that often used perhaps somebody has had the same problem = and can help me. Thank you very much ! Hayung |
