Thanks guys.
The "set term jpeg" in Windows gnuplot was not recognized.
I used a directly downloaded binary of gnuplot, "gp41-April22_2005-winbin".
It could be that this is too old.
The long version is :

last modified Sat Jul 3 00:04:32 CEST 2004
System: MS-Windows 32 bit
On the Linux platform, however, the above "set term jpeg" is recognized
and I was able to get my output in jpeg format.
I guess I will have to build the gnuplot from the sources for Windows or
as suggested elsewhere the gd library may be missing. Any suggestions on
this one too?

this depends on the gnuplot version and how things have been compiled. What=

can do (and hopefully you, too):
in gnuplot:
set terminal pbm color [other related options]
set output "dummy.ppm"
plot x*x
and afterwards (well; if you have cygwin you might have those tools, too):
ppmtojpeg dummy.ppm
or=20
ppm2tiff dummy.ppm
there you should get what you want to.
Apart from this you would need a gnuplot compiled & linked against libgd wi=
th=20
the gd-terminal included, I cannot tell whether this is available as=20
precompiled version for Windows.
I hope that the netpbm-tools are available in your cygwin installation.

I have to admit that I did not read the docs thoroughly enough; the problem=

arises from the fact that I had been searching for a line attribute "dash"=

among the line styles but should have searched among the terminal=20
capabilities. This is the way it is with gnuplot as many attributes are=20
restricted to the terminal's capability; however, it would be nice to have =
a=20
little one-liner hint within "help set style line" or "help plot with ".
Converting gnuplot output from ps to pdf (set terminal postscript=20
enhanced ...) via ghostscript (either ps2pdf or better epstopdf) I found =
=A0=20
that the default bounding box in XXX.ps out of gnuplot, XXX.ps being the=20
output causes somewhat too large distances between the figure and the=20
caption /and / or the preceeding text in TeX (matter of taste, though ...).=
=20
This can be shown by putting a \framebox around the included figure.
To circumvent this I suggest the following procedure which (might) be of=20
interest for other folks, too. I send the short script "dummy.plt" as an=20
attachement because my mailer wraps the lines wildly what might disturb the=
=20
functionality. This script implies the usage of epstopdf, it does not work=
=20
with ps2pdf. You need both sed and ghostscript installed.
The contents of the ps - file is filtered by sed, the BoundingBox size is=20
replaced by a different one that is achieved from gs -sDEVICE=3Dbbox.
The procedure has been tested in linux, should work in any Unix. Using=20
Windows, you might have to manually call ghostscript and manually edit the=
=20
ps-file before converting it into pdf.

Tried also Cygwin's tool:

I'm trying to send gnuplot's color palette to a separate file so that graphs made in other applications (R, for example) use the same color scheme. So far I've tried set output "palette.out" show palette palette 128 int set output The result is that three columns of r,g,b color intensitites fly by on my screen and the file, palette.out, is generated, but contains no data. I'm running gnuplot 4.0 on Windows XP. --Mike |

that has changed within tetex or I have set unintentionally my tetex=20
configuration that way. What again brings me to the point that a different=

switch might be better in this case.

Therefore all related building efforts fail.
I modified titlepage.tex through the makefile (in docs/Makefile.in)

Gentlemen, Along with graph plotting, I use the "print command" to get numerical outputs. The output is always in 15 significant figures, and 5 would be much better for me. Since gnuplot seems to be built on C language, is there any kind of floating point command that would limit the printout to 5 significant figures? Thanks much, and keep up the good work. Hi,
I was doing the following using gnuplot:
gnuplot> set xdata time
gnuplot> set timefmt "%H:%M"
gnuplot> set term png
Terminal type set to 'png'
Options are 'small color picsize 640 480 '

Now, I am trying to use the Chart::Graph::Gnuplot perl module. Here is
what I have:

What do I need to actually plot the input file called

Working on drawings for a series of articles on map projections and wondering if gnuplot is the right tool for this. Attached are a couple of samples of the kind of output I'm looking for. These samples were produced in xfig, with a lot of manual intervention. Am looking for an easier and more accurate way to do this process. If anyone can indicate a way to reproduce these things in gnuplot, I would appreciate some examples or at least some pointers! If gnuplot is not the appropriate tool, would appreciate suggestions of other tools. I have been looking at G. Nobre's Featpost extension to the Metapost language (matagalatlante.org/nobre/featpost/doc/featpost-1.html ) 1) A sphere tangent to a plane at its south pole. Meridians drawn with hidden line removal. Two lines, drawn in a different style, between the north pole and the plene, passing through the sphere without hidden-line removal. (See attached file: stereog.png) 2) The upper, "north" half of a sphere, with the angle between two parallels indicated with an arrow and labeled, and the angle between two meridians indicated with an arrow and labeled. You should start by not plotting the grid via functions, but via
set grid polar
For the remaining details, I highly recommend you have a look at the
example script 'poldat.dem' you received with gnuplot. The second
plot ("antenna pattern") should be almost exactly equivalent to what
you're trying to do.

Why?

Well, you selected "polar" mode, so yes, you data should be in polar
mode. Otherwise, turn off 'set polar' and plot them as they are.

Hello, New user to gp. I looked through the docs, but cannot see how to simply plot 4 point with connecting lines... I have 2 files, one containing optimum and one containg calculated values for each axis.. The are in rect. coordinates.
