[Gnuplot-info] gnuplot won't plot

I think I changed something that has stopped gnuplot from plotting. I'm usi=
ng a linux system.

here's what I get after I start gnuplot:

    G N U P L O T
    version 4.0 patchlevel 0
..
..(opening stuff)
..

Terminal type set to 'x11'
gnuplot> plot sin(x)

gnuplot: unable to open display ''
gnuplot: X11 aborted.
