Hello,
I'm making an image plot ('set view map') of a 27x27 correlation
matrix that has a block diagonal structure. The [1:18,1:18]
top-left submatrix and the [19:27,19:27] lower-right submatrix are
all positive and closer to +1; the off-diagonal submatricies
are all negative and closer to -1. My problem is that on
the boundary gnuplot is interpolating and plotting a
color that indicates it is near zero. What I want is
a sharp distinction between the boundaries but nice
color gradients in each submatrix showing the transition
towards +/- 1. Any help would be much appreciated.
Here's what I've done so far

set pm3d
set view map
set size square
set palette model RGB
set noxtics
set noytics
set palette defined (my nice blue to red pallette choice)
splot "cormatrix" matrix with pm3d # for example
set xrange [] reverse
set yrange [] reverse
replot

Hello, I'm new user to gnuplot, so far I've thanked god it exists several= =20 times. Anyhow, I must plot a graph from a file to a .png, I've got all the command= s=20 right, but it apparently creates a .png file that crashes Windows Explorer= =20 and Internet Explorer. Here are the values that generated such graph: 29.94011976047904 32.0 30.120481927710845 16.0 30.303030303030305 2.0 They are exactly like that in the source file, I have no idea what's going= =20 on, is it because there are too many numbers after the dot thing? If then,= =20 what's the maximum i can put? (It did generate files with that much numbers= =20 after the dot in previous occasions) I'm trying to know why that happens, so far I've figured it isn't lack of= =20 disk space, nor previous files conflicts. Matt, If I am not mistaken you can use "set format x" to set the x-axis. That's why there's a special touch-up script for pm3d postscript output
distributed in the source tarball. See gnuplot/pm3d/contrib.

Incorrect conclusion. That's not gnuplot's doing, but a consequence of
what libraries you (or whoever did that) made available at the time of

Dear Gnuplot people
I like the new (version 4.0 patchlevel 0) version of gnuplot,
especially the 'set pm3d map' plots.
It is running on a Sun V20z dual opteron with suze linux 9.0.
But I am having difficulty saving images
in a sensible format.
eps is OK but not very efficient though I suppose I could gzip them.
gnuplot's terminal options dont seem to include gif or jpeg any more
("unknown or ambiguous terminal type").
There is png but that gives an error when I do the pm3d plot:
Error: terminal "png" does not support continuous colors.
So - what image format should I be using these days
for efficient storage of gnuplot images?
(and ultimately for making movies)

Hello,
The command "set terminal png transparent nocrop enhanced font arial 8
size 1200,300" works in the windows version of GNUPlot 4.0. In the Linux
version 4.0, it says
"expecting: {small, medium, large},[no]transparent, or {monochrome,
gray, color, [xRRGGBB] }". Why the difference ? Please tell me if its
possible to write code that's independent of platform.
FYI The version in GNUPlot 4.0 Linux says :

Hi, I am trying to use gnuplot as a plotting facility for an application. To that end, I start 'gnuplot -' in the background and communicate with it via pipes. It works okay and could be a lot easier if gnuplot were designed for this purpose. BTW, I am wondering if the '-' command line switch has any effects other than telling gnuplot to take its input from stdin (the only other effect I observed is that it omits it's startup message). Are there any plans to improve gnuplot with respect to interfacing with other applications, e.g., defining an API and offering a 'libgnuplot' build option? Thanks, Ralf |

I have gone through the code for axis.c in the gnuplot sources. Below=

some pseudo code containing the pieces of code that I think are relev=

to what I am trying to do and also my understanding of what they do.
Again I am using a C program to calculate the position of xtics. Then
when i generate a "set xtics" command that will contain all the tic
values I want along with labels ( which is going to be minutes:second=
s).
The maximum range of what I want to graph will be 1 hour, but
realistically it will be about 500 seconds.=20
I dont understand how the tic interval is calculated in the funtion=

quantize_normal_tics. Could someone explain to me using pseduo code e=

how it works ?
Also the function quantize_duodecimal_tics rounds the tic interval. I=

is called from the quantize_time_tics function when the format of the
axis is time. It seems to be similar to the quantize_normal_tics
function.
