Your best option may be not to use the postscript terminal at all. If the plot is to end up in a LaTeX document, the 'pslatex' or 'epslatex' driver is generally the better choice. Among others, it lets you use LaTeX font names, and the full LaTeX syntax, including math symbols, in the text elements of a plot. |

Hi, I wonder if it is normal for the following to take about ~30 seconds to plot... This generates a radar plot jpeg.. Anything I can do to speed this up... I have the following input: 2005/07/25 19:15 35000 2005/07/25 19:24 40000 2005/07/26 21:23 27000 2005/07/26 21:45 30000 I'm not sure of what to set the xdata and the timefmt fields to so if anyone knows how to do this or has any suggestions I will appreciate a reply. Hi, I am using the Chart::Graph::Gnuplot perl module and I was wondering if there is any way to plot a graph with filled boxes? All I can do right now is plot with the options available (points, lines, etc.) and I was just hoping that someone has found a way to plot with the filled style. First, I think that what you folks are doing is fabulous. But I've got problems. I just installed gnuplot. x11 was already installed, as was acquaterm. Problem 1 may be stupid: If I try to get gnuplot from Terminal, I get the gnuplot login info, followed by *** Terminal type set to 'unknown' *** If I try "set term x11" I get the response *** Terminal type set to 'x11' Options are '0' gnuplot> gnuplot: unable to open display '' gnuplot: X11 aborted. *** Problem 2 is curious: If I open a window in xterm, gnuplot is defined only in the home directory. I thought that I had added the appropriate path to etc/usr/csh.login. Perhaps you can tell me the path to use? I've tried looking up solutions on the web, but so far no go. Many thanks. |

you have to modify your value-file:
1 -1.1323
2 0.7345
3 -57.273
4 4.67552
you already changed the names of the xtics, but gnuplot does not know about=
A,=20
B, C, D, it can only handle numbers.
You'll have to fiddle around with the lines, but anyhow ...

The numbers in there are off by one --- you want to use 0,...,3 instead.

And this one is completely wrong. You must use the data point count
pseudo column numer 0, i.e. either
plot 'values.dat' using 2 with boxes # automatically
or
plot 'values.dat' using 0:2 with boxes
[If you can upgrade to the CVS version, this kind of plot will be a
*lot* simpler.]

Hi,
I am just beginning to use gnuplot. I went through some documentation to try
and plot the dataset represented below but am doing something wrong. My data
looks like this:
#Name Value
AAA -1.1323
BBB 0.7345
CCC -57.273
DDD 4.6752
I want to plot a bar graph and this is the snippet I tried:
set xtics ("AAA" 1, "BBB" 2, "CCC" 3, "DDD" 4)
set xrange [0:5]
set format y "%f"
set yrange [-60:5]
plot 'values.dat' using 1:2 with boxes
I would appreciate if someone could tell me what it is that I am missing.

Pass a linetype number instead of letting gnuplot auto-select on, and you should be done, for extra measure, you may want to even give a "line color", if you're running the current CVS version. Filledcurves isn't particularly different from any of the other plot styles in this regard. |

recently I have been experimenting with "set style fill <something>.
Given I have three files A,B and C, each of them consisting of columns as=20
follows:
A:
x1 f11(x1) f21(x1)
x2 f11(x2) f21(x2)
*
*
B:
x1 f12(x1) f22(x1)
x2 f12(x2) f22(x2)
*
*
and, consequently C
C:
x1 f13(x1) f23(x1)
x2 f13(x2) f23(x2)
*

I can create a plot by saying:
set style data lines
plot 'A' u 1:2:3 w filledcu,\
'B' u 1:2:3 w filledcu,\
'C' w 1:2:3 w filledcu
now my question: is there any means to make gnuplot fill all three areas wi=
th=20
the same shading and a user-definable colour? I only saw the hint that the=
=20
fill colour and type is changed from plot to plot, this is not what I would=
=20
like to realize.

Hi Zeray,
this depends on whether or not your binary is linked against libgd. There a=
re=20
versions of libgd for Windows, too, however, I never compiled this on M$ on=
=20
my own - so, either stay with linux or you really will have to build that=20
yourself - I do not know about the details here. But, if you have cygwin it=
=20
may be easier to live with gnuplot there.

test on your own. Using dummy.plt as I have been providing with my last ema=
il=20
but replacing "set terminal postscript enhanced landscape" by "set terminal=
=20
postscript eps" using gnuplot-4.1.0:
gs -sDEVICE=3Dbbox ...
gives me a bounding box of 48 39 399 293 for dummy.ps, (1)
the orignial file dummy.ps created by gnuplot contains a bounding box=20
information of 50 50 410 302 (2)
using epstopdf on the file containing BoundingBox (1) results in an=20
appropriate picture, all arrows remain visible in the pdfoutput.
In contrast, applying ps2epsi followed by ps2pdf on the output file contain=
ing=20
the BoundingBox (2) results in arrows cut out of the visible range.
Calling gs with sDEVICE=3Dbbox actually does not care for any given=20
bbox-information in the file but computes them from the raw ps data - and=20
those are correct. Looking into the actual pdf-files shows that the MediaBo=
x=20
information differs in both cases (what is expected due to the differences =
in=20
appearance).
But maybe I did another error, so, if you find the time, I appreciate if yo=
u=20
can recheck.
The way I suggested may be complex - but it works.

well, I have been on the webpage of the pdflib folks, and, well, they want =
to=20
charge something like 450 Euros per license if I got it right - this is qui=
te=20
expensive for a library the advantage of which I cannot see regarding this=
=20
specific issue. I am perfectly satisfied with the quality of the output I g=
et =20
the way I am using it right now. I will test your suggestions and will be=20
happy if things turn out simpler than I have them right now.
IMHO gnuplot has made several very important steps forward regarding the=20
flexibility of the output. Thanks for all the ongoing work!
