So far it worked all right for me for 2D plots.
But it is a 3D isometric plot that I'm talking about, which apparently
is not yet supported by gnuplot.

That is what I've been doing so far and it really sucks - I
had to plot few tens of plots of different sizes and after few hours
of struggle I just let it go - I've done it in scilab.

But I would rather do that in gnuplot ....
Have you got any other suggestions?

'set size ratio -1' works only for 2d plot but not for 3D plot.
This seemingly trivial question is not so trivial - gnuplot
simply does not support isometric
3D plots! It is something for the gnuplot gurus to think on.

I could get x and y axis to be isometric
only by setting equal x and y ranges -
but then I had to play with z axis scaling, which was
not elegant and took lots of time.
Anyway, the x and y dimensions of the plots I want to make are not
equal, so cannot jump over it this way.

Any more suggestions anyone? I would really apreciate a solution.

[Gnuplot-info] Plotting date vs. time

Hi,

I'm trying to plot arrival times on the y-axis against dates on the x-axis, 
but I keep failing because the single date/time format in gnuplot prevents me 
from treating the two columns separately.

Has anyoneone managed to plot arrival times like this? Any help appreciated

FYI: that line has been in the CVS version of gnuplot for 8 months 
now...  If you're brave enough to run a beta version of your web 
browser, maybe you should consider updating to CVS gnuplot, too ;-)

Hi,

I tried a svg file generated by gnuplot with Firefox 1.5beta1 browser=20
from mozilla.org. And I found that I need to add:

xmlns=3D"http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"

attribute in the <svg> tag generated by gnuplot otherwise=20
Firefox1.5beta1 cannot plot an output from gnuplot on its screen.

Adding the line:

     fprintf (gpoutfile, " xmlns=3D=A5"http://www.w3.org/2000/svg=A5" =A5=
n");

at the proper place in svg.trm file will solve this problem.

I'm not sure there's anything to be done about that.  That's default
Windows behaviour, decided not by us, but by Microsoft.

That's right that part is messed up. I modified the registry manually to 
point to the correct path for wgnuplot.exe. It works to a point. When I 
right click on a directory and select Gnuplot here gnuplot opens. the pwd 
command shows the directory I right clicked in but clicking on Open button 
doesn't open in the directory I right clicked in. It opens in the last 
directory I saved something in.

I don't know matlab, but I guess those would be 'set size ratio -1' and 
'set size square', respectively.

The usual gnuplot way of doing that would be 'set size ratio -1'.  Try it.

I have a gnuhere.inf file that will place a gnuplot prompt here menue when 
I right click on a directory. The menue item opens gnuplot and when I click 
on open it automatically opens in that directory where I right clicked.

This used to work with an old version of gnuplot (not sure which version) 
it doesn't work with latest version of gnuplot.

anybody know how to fix it?

Do it outside gnuplot, or get the development and keep your fingers 
crossed that what you're trying to do doesn't go below the internal 
limitations of even the lastest code.  The function you want to check 
out is called 'timecolumn'.

In gnuplot (4.0) I set this:

set datafile separator ","
set xdata time
set timefmt "%Y-%m-%d,%H:%M:%S"
set format x "%H:%M"
plot "file.dat" using 2:4

which works well.

But can anyone tell me, what I have to do/set, to see the time +2
hours?
Because the date in the file ist UTC and I want to see it in MET?

I tried "plot "file.dat" using (($2)+2):4 but this doesn't work as I
hoped. It shows this:
Warning: empty x range [2007:2007], adjusting to [1986.93:2027.07]

whenever I execute my program which calls gnuplot, I
am getting warning message like below -

Warning: empty x range [1.15794e+07:1.15794e+07],
adjusting to [1.14636e+07:1.16952e+07]
Warning: empty x range [112120:112120], adjusting to
[110999:113241]

This may be bcz. x range is -ve or large. 
But I want to turn off this warning message showing on
the console. Instead I want to store these warning
messages to a file. Is there any way to do this ? 
Please help me in this regard.

[Gnuplot-info] I can't ./prepare

I've been trying to install the latest version of Gnuplot on my machine. I
follow the instructions on
http://www.gnuplot.info/development/ethans_instructions.html

Apparently I download the files well enough by:

export CVS_RSH=ssh
export CVSROOT=:pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/gnuplot
cvs login

cvs -z3 checkout gnuplot

But when I try ./prepare i get the error:

./prepare: line 17: aclocal: command not found

Some part of the preparation process failed.
Please refer to INSTALL for details.

Any ideas what the reason could be? Do I have to do something after the download
before the ./prepare ?

Since columns 1-5 contain the same data in each colums, their 
content is not really intersting to plot. If you want to plot colums 6-
10 use the following syntax:

plot 'gnu_apache2.file' using x:y

where you replace x with the respective column number you want 
to have ploted in the x-axis, and replace y with the respective 
column number you want to have ploted on the y-axis, for example 
to plot column 9 vs 6 use

plot 'gnu_apache2.file' using 6:9
