None short of not letting gnuplot draw any legends, so you can paint 
your own if and where you want.

Err, by sticking less text into it? ;-)

Seriously, the only generic way of doing that is to change the default
font of your terminal driver (at 'set terminal' time, typically). Or you
can use a driver that offers special text formatting (postscript 
enhanced mode, TeX, recently some more).

You need to understand that gnuplot tries to use the *same* scripts on 
both coloured and black&white output formats, and still get useful 
results on both.  The way we do that is by specifying not a colour, but 
a "line type", which is an index into a table of colours.  If you don't 
specify the line type yourself, gnuplot picks one automatically, and 
yes, that choice often does start with red.

Read 'help png' --- one possible answer for your might be in there.

And find out how

	plot 'ADM' u 1:2 t 'ADM' lt 3

creates a different effect from what you got so far, by reading 'help 
plot' and 'help plot with'.

[Gnuplot-info] Color of a box

Hi, there!

I need a blue graphic (set of bars) and I don't know how to set it. I got=
 a
set of red bars instead :(

I found a colorbox option but I couldn't understand how to use it.

I tried setting gnuplot*line1Color: blue on .Xresources... but I think it=
 has
nothing to do with this.

Here goes my .plot file:

What I meant was that I got those two functions of the web which 
supposedly draws a circle (but doesnt). Thats why Im asking how (or any 
other options) to draw a circle in gnuplot.

Not for a value from some column in some file --- gnuplot doesn't output 
characters in any of its plot styles, so data files can't be used like 
that.  But you can use an x value combined with a y direction coordinate 
specified in units of the 'graph' (--> "help coordinate"), like this:

	set label 'L' at 1.2, graph 0.95

I am plotting a value along the x1y2 axis which is autoscaled.

At certain  points I want to plot a character on the top x axis. The =
actual x1y2 max sacle will vary from plot to plot.

Is there a way I can specify that I want the x to be what I want it to =
be (column in a file ok), but want the x points to be the top value =
which represents the top axis on the x1y2 scale?

Thas been reported before.  FC4 seems to be the only Linux distrubtion 
on the planet (!) that shows this behaviour.  To me, that indicates the 
bug is either in some highly unusual configuration aspect of FC4, or a 
plainly broken binary package --- maybe it is too much to expect from a 
Linux distributor these days to run a freshly built program's "make 
check", at least once, before signing it an official RPM.

Hi Kiril, have you tried to recompile gnuplot after the update?
Probably, it'll fix the problem.

Your question is a bit hard to parse, but you seem to be asking how to 
get the thing that looks roughly like this (use a fixed-width font do 
see it)

into an axis label?  Well, that depends on the terminal driver you're 
using.  Some have this letter in their Symbol fonts (PostScript, e.g., 
does), some even allow you write a real math equation using properly 
formatted sqrt signs (like the TeX family of drivers, including pslatex 
and epslatex:

	set xlabel '$\sqrt{x^2+5}$'

[Gnuplot-info] set terminal png with size instead of picsize

Hi together,

we have a delicate problem here in our company. We want to use a software 
from either Windows or Linux. This software uses gnuplot for its output. 
One of the commands in this software is called "set terminal png medium 
size x,y". This command works properly on a windows system and on a 32 bit 
debian linux. But on our 64bit suse linux 9.3 we have to use "picsize x y" 
instead of "size x,y".

Our developers want me (I am one of the system administrators) to fix that 
problem, so that they can use the same command on every platform.

Can you please help me?

I don't think so.  There's essentially no way to do that, short of 
rewriting either zoom or multiplot from scratch, neither of which 
anybody seems inclined to try.

Mainly the fact that timecolumn() is quite buggy in 4.0, and may well be 
impossible to fix, so we chose a completely different approach to 
replace it, for 4.1.

I was trying to plot the difference in days between to dates. With the
info in this newsgroup I made a script using timecolumn() and column()
that works fine on my examples. However, now it seems not to work if
timecolumn() is given a column number >=4. What am I missing here? I am
using Gnuplot 4.0 path 0 on Linux.

Dear group,

I am trying to plot the difference between to dates. I got strange errors and then tried the script below. In both gnuplot 3.7 and 4.0 it seems that the third column is not read correctly. Plotting the second column with dates results in an empty range.

When the time (H:M:S) is made different is the two data entries gnuplot does not give an empty range error, but does not plot the datapoints at the correct date.

Does anyone know how to work with more than one date?

Using a file loop for that is likely the wrong approach.  Finite 
recursion, as shown in one of our demos, generally works better.

Well, so define it before you run the loop file.  A simple

	a = 0

before you load the loop script should work.  You can put some, but not 
all initializations for a loop script inside the script itself.
