does anyone managed to get seq24 compile on windows? I have Cygwin installed, and trying to compile seq24 (ignoring alsalib and jack libraries) I get an error about missing POSIX compliance for Realtime stuff. has anyone ever tried to do this? |

One way to get sound would be to get hold of a soundfont(ex. PC51f.sf2) and call it up with perhaps Fluidsynth(what I use). Then in seq24 direct the seperate seqences to the newly recognized sounds. You can run "fluidsynth -a jack soundfont" which should easily get you there after starting and having jack running. "qjackctl" is very handy also. |

I'm a total newbie at midi, so please bear with me. I've been running linux for a few years, and am now on Gentoo. Seq24 is installed via portage, and appears to be working. Even though timidity plays midi files just fine, seq24 doesn't seem to output to the speakers, but I can live with that. I have a midi file (9 instruments) that's approx 2 minutes long. I want to use the last few seconds as a ringtone. The documentation talks about editing sequences and adding notes, but it seems to assume that I know a lot about midi-editting, which is absolutely wrong. For now, I just want to chop a file into 2 and save the second piece as a midi file. Are there any detailed instructions elsewhere? Thanks. -- Walter Dnes <wal...@wa...> In linux /sbin/init is Job #1 My musings on technology and security at http://tech_sec.blog.ca |

It seems that in version 0.8.3 of seq24 I am not able to save Midi Input Settings, so I have to select Midi Input each time I run seq24 (maybe this is an intended behavior?) I am not sure if anyone suggested this before, but it would be great if there was something like a TR-707 drum matrix that you can use instead of the piano roll to sequence drum machines. Thanks, Anatoly |

I'm just wondering if anybody has any idea how difficult it would be to configure seq24 so that patterns are triggered by a DDR pad? I think that would be a neat little project. :-) |

It would be nice if it was possible to bypass arbitrary rows and
columns in the editor. This would in effect "mute" or not send the
events.
It could be a toggle at the edge of the matrix. With the mouse, you
could select more at once.
Also would be nice to select a few events and bypass them, as well.

Anyone using a Behringer FCB1010 midi foot controller with seq24 by chance?? Just got a hold of one and would appreciate any thoughts or tips. Especially being able to queue sequences with it. I'm at square one with this so anything helps :O) Thanks, Rick |

Without jack transport enabled, you have to start playback with the button in the song editor and have the looping button enabled for it to loop. If you are running with jack transport, then I think the 0.7.0 release has looping disabled. But have no fear. Only a little while until 0.8.0 comes out and looping w/ jack is enabled. rob |

Thanks for the patch. It doesn't seem to update the lines until the sequence is closed and reopened, however, and doesn't work for 1/12, 1/24, 1/48, etc. I'll try to tweak it if I have time. Ben |

Ren=E9- I don't know if the patch works or not, I assume it does. You can also install libgtkmm-2.2 in parallel with 2.4, 2.8, etc.. 2.2 will not overwrite your 2.4 install. cheers! Hi, I am new on the list. I intend to use seq24 because it looks very simple and I hope that it will make what I wish : record MIDI datas in a Standard Midi File. I use a laptop with a Debian installed since 2005.12.20. This Debian comes with libgtkmm-2.4 ; seq24 does not compile (because it needs libgtkmm-2.2 ?) In the archive there is a patch libgtkmm-2.4 -> libgtkmm-2.2. Does it work ? Or is there another way ? Thanks for all tips --=20 Ren=E9 Bastian |

Hi again, Something I've often thought would improve usability would be vertical lines at the grid snap interval. Ben |

I tend to have a set of variations on a pattern, or alternate patterns for the same instrument or track, that I switch between. When I want to switch, I unmute one and mute the other. Or I can right-control click on the old one and the new one and they will switch at the end of the loop. However, it would be nice if I could simply activate the new sequence and the old one would become muted. How about a feature where you could define a group of sequences, only one of which would be playing at any one time? Even a checkbox at the top of each column and at the left of each row to set the sequences in that column or row as mutually exclusive. Thanks, Ben |

Hi, Just a couple of issues with copying and pasting: 1. Copying notes from one loop and pasting them into another loop doesn't work for me. 2. When I copy and paste an entire loop, the sequencing info in the song editor is also copied (i.e. everywhere loop A plays, loop B also plays). Not sure if this is intended behavior, but I always have to go through and delete all the occurrances of loop B in the song editor. Thanks a lot for seq24 - I use it more and more and find it to be very usable and reliable. Ben |
