Hi, I have some enquiries about GNUPLOT functions. I have used it to plot a 3D graph as attached. However, I wish to remove the palette panel displayed on the right of the image. Also, I wish to remove the expression on the top of the plot. Is it possible for me to do that ? Can you please show me the command to do that? Thanks a million!! Regards, Lee |

Hello world! On monday, October 2nd 2006 12:14, Uwe Schneider wrote: > I have gnuplot 4.1 windows (march 2006). 4.1 is the development version of gnuplot. If you know the width of the histogram boxes, you can use the plot style 'with boxes' combined with 'using': plot 'datafile' using 1:2:3 with boxes Thereby you create a box of the height given in column 2 and the width given in column 3 at the points given in column 1. If your dataset does not provide information about the boxwidths, you may calculate them within the 'using'-part. See also the helptext for 'set boxwidth'. To create an output in black and white, simply use the option 'monochrome', which is provided by most terminals: set terminal windows monochrome After using this, the boxes should be drawn in black and white. Note, that using 'linetype' after 'with boxes' changes the fillcolor of the boxes. To change the linetype, you have to use 'with boxes fill border <number>'. See also the helptext for 'fillstyle' HTH Lars |

Hi,
I have gnuplot 4.1 windows (march 2006).
How can I make black and white histograms?
set style rectangle does not work
... expecting 'data', 'function', 'line', 'fill' or 'arrow'
I also tried to place "lt -1" with set style histogram but it it not work
either.
(set style histogram clustered gap 1 lt -1
^
"gnuplot.ini", line 17: ';' expected
)
Many thanks
Uwe

I am using gnuplot to plot a series of graphs from data files to jpegs
which are used to make a to make an avi of a rotating 3d plot. I have
a
number of these to do.
Part of this is to also build up jpegs that only plot parts of the
dataset. I need to keep the same x,y,& z ranges for each plot or the
movie is impossible to watch as the axis ranges jump around. I can set
the ranges manually which works fine but this is tedious for more than
one
plot and I have a number to do.
I had the idea I could plot the entire file once but in a way
that is invisible or merges with the background and then plot just that
part of the dataset I am interested in for the particular jpeg over the
top. This then lets me take advantage of autoscaling and is much
quicker.
An example plot is
splot '100kmpresc.txt' using 4:5:9 with points pt 0 ps 0 , \
'< head -$K 100kmpresc.txt' using 4:5:9 with lines
This is one line from a looping shell script which generates several
thousand jpegs plotting various portions of the dataset and rotating
about the z axis. These are then turned into the avi. I have tried
various combinations of lines and points with ps 0 and lw 0 etc. without
success. Could anyone suggest how to do this or a better approach.
Thank you
Steven

I was afraid you'd say that. Back on an FC5 system (where building's =20
much easier). After confusing myself and running "gnuplot" instead of =20=
"src/gnuplot" a bunch of times, I wrote this script:

exit 1
src/gnuplot <<EOF || exit 1
set terminal pdf

mv test-$DATE.pdf ~/public_html || exit 1

One of them is that the PDF_open_fp() function has gone away, so gnuplot now has to use a more complicated technique to open its PDF output stream. > so instead I'm trying CVS 20060923 on a previously-working machine. > Here we go: On the RedHat Linux 4ES system (which claims to have > PDFlib 6.0.1), > > * "Sat Jul 3 00:04:32 CEST 2004" works. ... but that can't be using 6.0.1 (or at least it had to be patched to use it). You may have to use bisection on the date axis (guided by the 'cvs log' of pdf.trm to find critical spots) to find the patch that broke this (starting off the first version that works with PDFlib 6). |

Oops! Yeah, my goal was to try the same version on all machines, but =20
I misread the "2004" as a "2006". Interestingly, 20040703 doesn't =20
build on these new systems; so, something's different...my PDFlib =20
Lite versions (even though both claim to be 6.0.1), my build options, =20=
or whatever. Unfortunately, I don't have a reproducible source RPM of =20=
the older version. Error below:
term.o: In function `PDF_init':
../term/pdf.trm:345: undefined reference to `PDF_open_fp'
so instead I'm trying CVS 20060923 on a previously-working machine. =20
Here we go: On the RedHat Linux 4ES system (which claims to have =20
PDFlib 6.0.1),
* "Sat Jul 3 00:04:32 CEST 2004" works.
* "cvs up -D20060923" does not. (Same problem as the FC5 systems.)

No. I first noticed the problem with normal plotting.

Pointtype 0 isn't missing --- it's just so small that you have to crank
up the zoom quite a bit to see it (600% or above). The only real
problem in that plot is pt1. That should be a + or so, but it's a dot, too.

Too many variables: 3 different types of CPU, 3 OSes, 3 different CVS
versions of gnuplot (20060923, 20060703, 20040703). You'll have to
reduce the variance to get a meaningful result.
For all you've shown so far, this could be a bug in either PDFlib or
pdf.trm that only shows up under very specific conditions.
Does normal plotting work better than 'test'? E.g. does 'plot sin(x)
with points pt1' contain proper '+' symbols?

Hi, Does gnuplot allow auto refreshing of a plot created using some file. I have an application that is constantly appending data to a file. It would be nice if gnuplot could auto refresh its plot from file. thanks, Samit -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/gnuplot-auto-refresh-tf2329010.html#a6479353 Sent from the Gnuplot - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Using PDFlib Lite 6.0.1 and gnuplot 4.1 CVS 20060923, "set terminal
pdf" output is missing pointtypes 0 (".") and 1 ("+"). Pointtype 2
("X") and so on are present. Since test.pdf's only 6 kB, I'm
attaching it.
This happens on a couple of my machines:
* Fedora Core 5, x86_64
* Fedora Core 5, i386
but a couple others are fine:
* OS X 10.4
* RedHat Linux 4ES
The last two are running an older version - "Sat Jul 3 00:04:32 CEST
2004", they claim - but when I try 20060703 on one of the FC5
machines, I still have this problem.
Also, the "X11" terminal type works fine on all machines.
Any idea what's going on?

Yeah. At 3am I clicked on the wrong address book entry by one :P I will apollogize publicly now instead of individually to everyone who's going to send me private replies. I'm actually surprised this went through. I unsubed from that list weeks ago. Guess that means the list is open to posting to all. I expected it to bounce as I wasn't subscribed. Sorry. Jason |

Hello, I have a fairly new install of Gentoo and I'm using gnucash 2.0.1. I've started running into a problem today. I started using gnucash 2.0.1 a couple of weeks ago, and today got my first paystub since starting. I set up my expense accounts and begin entering my split. I do not know if the split has anything to do with the problem, but it may be signifcant as, so far, it's been the only time I've been able to cause this to happen. While entering the values for the various parts of the split, GNUCash crashes. There is no explanation. On the console all I see is: jason@lynx ~ $ gnucash Illegal instruction jason@lynx ~ $ So far, this has happened all three times I've tried to enter my paystub. It has happened at various points in the process (ie: is not linked to a specific account), but always while entering some part of the information required for the split. The last time I was almost done. I was pressing backspace to edit my description field on the last item when it happened. I have been, so far, unable to find a common thread, other than every time I was editing a split to enter my pay information. I'd like to figure out what's going on here, track it down. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way to make gnucash tell me what it is doing when this happens? Ok, make that 4 now, but I do have an strace from the last run if that helps at all :P Thanks Jason |

Thanks for the information. Also it is ok if browser delegate display to another xterm or X11 window. I did find one co-author of gnuplot doing same. "http://www.bmsc.washington.edu/people/merritt/gnuplot_test.html" - I tried this example and was able to invoke my webplot script after some iterations. - But when I just for sake, wrote a simple file and at its top typed MIME header: version and content-type. On opening in web browser, that did not work. May be I need to pick up mime syntax. (Any Hints ?) - Image creation at webserver I wish to avoid, as web server is running on embedded networking device under stress, with less resources. Lastly, I need take of logging of incoming data and display last few seconds window in graph/gnuplot. Thanks once again. regards, - nalin Richard Henwood <r.h...@rl...> wrote: Hans-Bernhard Bröker wrote: > Nalin Gupta wrote: > >> I wish to learn, is it possible that web server streams some data (X,Y) >> and web browser invoke gnuplot to display this dynamic data > > No. There are very serious security implications that forbid this kind > of setup. > > Running programs in or from your web browser requires completely > different techniques than those used by desktop applications (like > gnuplot). For that kind of job you need Java. > Hi Nalin and Hans-Bernhard, The short answer, as Hans has stated is: NO. The slightly longer answer is: why would you want to do this? there maybe a better way to complete your goal - serverside gnuplot image generation? The longer answer is: Maybe, First, you could configure your webserver to send a customised mime type when your stream is selected by your browser. You could then configure your browser to delegate activity to another application (gnuplot) when it encounters this type. Secondly, there exist scrips which will allow the gnuplot to print from STDIN. You may be able to connect STDIN to the web stream. By achieving these two tasks, you may be able to get the behaviour you have loosely specified. cheers, r, ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
