Thanks for the information. Also it is ok if browser delegate display to another xterm or X11 window. I did find one co-author of gnuplot doing same. "http://www.bmsc.washington.edu/people/merritt/gnuplot_test.html" - I tried this example and was able to invoke my webplot script after some iterations. - But when I just for sake, wrote a simple file and at its top typed MIME header: version and content-type. On opening in web browser, that did not work. May be I need to pick up mime syntax. (Any Hints ?) - Image creation at webserver I wish to avoid, as web server is running on embedded networking device under stress, with less resources. Lastly, I need take of logging of incoming data and display last few seconds window in graph/gnuplot. Thanks once again. regards, - nalin Richard Henwood <r.h...@rl...> wrote: Hans-Bernhard Bröker wrote: > Nalin Gupta wrote: > >> I wish to learn, is it possible that web server streams some data (X,Y) >> and web browser invoke gnuplot to display this dynamic data > > No. There are very serious security implications that forbid this kind > of setup. > > Running programs in or from your web browser requires completely > different techniques than those used by desktop applications (like > gnuplot). For that kind of job you need Java. > Hi Nalin and Hans-Bernhard, The short answer, as Hans has stated is: NO. The slightly longer answer is: why would you want to do this? there maybe a better way to complete your goal - serverside gnuplot image generation? The longer answer is: Maybe, First, you could configure your webserver to send a customised mime type when your stream is selected by your browser. You could then configure your browser to delegate activity to another application (gnuplot) when it encounters this type. Secondly, there exist scrips which will allow the gnuplot to print from STDIN. You may be able to connect STDIN to the web stream. By achieving these two tasks, you may be able to get the behaviour you have loosely specified. cheers, r, ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
