Hello Doug, You can set a label, instead of setting the title. Setting the label, you have the possibility to include variables into your text (see "help label"). Unfortunately (at least in my version of Gnuplot - Ver. 4.0) this doesn't seem to work for setting the title. You need to have a placeholder, e.g. %g depending on the type of variable you use and the way you want it to be displayed. In your case that could be: set label 1 "Plot Number %g",n at graph 0.5, graph 0.5 If you need to find out what kind of placeholder you want to use, look in the internet for an documentation of "printf" in the C-libraries. In case you want to display more than one variable, this is also possible: set label 1 "Plot Number %g ",n, "at Parameter Value %g", parameter at graph 0.5, graph 0.5 Schöne Grüße, Stephan Am Montag, den 16.10.2006, 22:20 -0400 schrieb doug bull: > Hi, > > I have a large amount of data to view (about 300 plots) and I view them for > 1 second each using reread in the following load file - call it cmd1 > > n=n+1 > plot 'junkderivative' every :::n::n u 7:8 w l > pause 1 > if(n<301) reread > > In gnuplot I set n=0 and then load cmd1. Hi, I have a large amount of data to view (about 300 plots) and I view them for 1 second each using reread in the following load file - call it cmd1 n=n+1 plot 'junkderivative' every :::n::n u 7:8 w l pause 1 if(n<301) reread In gnuplot I set n=0 and then load cmd1. All works very nicely. However, I want to label each plot using the "value" of the variable n in cmd1. That is I would like to do something like: plot 'junkderivative' every :::n::n u 7:8 title "$n plot" w l where $n use the value of n at the time the plot is called. Thank you, _________________________________________________________________ Stay in touch with old friends and meet new ones with Windows Live Spaces http://clk.atdmt.com/MSN/go/msnnkwsp0070000001msn/direct/01/?href=http://spaces.live.com/spacesapi.aspx?wx_action=create&wx_url=/friends.aspx&mkt=en-us |

Hello, Could you please tell me how to set in gnuplot so that it does not autoscale, but plots the x, y, and z with the same unit length? I've tried "size 1,1" and "size ratio ..", but it only sizes the overall box to be that ratio, while I want the program to plot using the dimension as from the data, not to stretch the configuration to fit into a defined ratio. It will be helpful if you know how this should be done. Thank you, sophia --------------------------------- Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. Well, in that case I'm afraid you'll have to take this up with Mandriva. This was a bug in version 4.0 which we fixed that quite exactly one year ago. Why Mandriva would distribute packages that don't run on their system is for them to answer. Until then, if you're brave enough, I'd suggest you update to the latest version of gnuplot. We're just gearing up to release 4.2. |

Dear Hans-Bernhard,
I am sending you an output of a command:
readelf -s /usr/lib/gnuplot/4.0/gnuplot_x11
because I think that can help in solving the "buffer overflow error"
that appears when gnuplot try to run .
Version of the gnuplot that I try to use is:
gnuplot_4.0.0-10mdv2007, on Mandriva 2007.
The command gives:

With some modifications of the standard options you can produce sophisticated results, as shown on the projects homepage (http://www.gnuplot.info , section 'Demos and Screenshots'). IMO gnuplot excels with its simple way of drawing plots, reduced to the essential parts. Especially the facilities of plotting data in combination with the fitting abilities makes it a considerable alternative to commercial products. gnuplot is able to produce various output formats, partly in very fine quality. In my experoience the most popular ones to be used in journals are jpeg, gif/png and foremost postscript. The resolutions given by the varoius terminals are good enough to be reproduced in journals. Hola Almundena,
I think "replot" might be your friend; say:
plot x*x w l lw 2
replot x**3 w l lw 2
will plot both a quadratic and a cubic function into one plot.
Hope this helps,
take care

Hi Almudena, The folowing sequence of commands gnuplot> set output "myfile.ps" gnuplot> plot x**2 gnuplot> set output "myfile.ps" gnuplot> plot x**3 will generate a file named myfile.ps with the plot of the function x**3. However, gnuplot> set output "myfile.ps" gnuplot> plot x**2 gnuplot> plot x**3 generates a file named myfile.ps with 2 pages, the 1st page has the plot of x**2, and the 2nd one has the plot of x**3. This works on gnuplot 4.1. I'm not sure on gnuplot 4.0, but give it a try. Cheers, Hern=E1n On 10/6/06, A. Hi Lee, There is no attached file, so I'm not sure if my answers will be the answers to your questions. The palette panel displayed on the right of the image is the colorbox. You can unset it by typing: gnuplot> unset colorbox I'm supposing that "the expresion on the top of the plot" is the key for the ploted functions. In this case, you can turn off them by typing: gnuplot> unset key For additional information, try gnuplot> help set colorbox and gnuplot> help set key I hope this helps you.
