A binary package, then.  Well, in that case I'm afraid you'll have to 
take this up with Mandriva.  This was a bug in version 4.0 which we 
fixed that quite exactly one year ago.

Why Mandriva would distribute packages that don't run on their system is 
for them to answer.

Until then, if you're brave enough, I'd suggest you update to the latest 
version of gnuplot.  We're just gearing up to release 4.2.
