you could define the x2tic labels by hand (or generate them with a
program.
e.g. for a xaxis range [1:100] you could set:

ok, I have 2 sets of data, that are supposed to measure the same thing, but with different methods, which means that ideally the relation would be linear... but my plot shows scattered points all over the place, so I was trying to find a function that fits the larger number of values... does it make sense now? flexible tool to create graphs of any kind, but the terminals differ with
regard to their capabilities. And a bitmap like a png is always limited to
some extend.
_if_ you are looking for a LaTeX / TeX integration (this is what the second
part of your message is telling me ....) I would suggest a different terminal
- please feed back and I can probably help.

Sorry for double posting, I figured out a better way to describe it. It's simply a parametric plot like this: #data.txt x(t) y(t) t and I want to somehow get t on the x2 axis. I know that subject is confusing. Here's what I'd like to do: I have a three column file and I want to plot $1 on x1 axis, $2 on y1 axis and I want x2 axis to tell me what $3 is. The problem is that $2 and $3 are not related by any simple function (ie not linear/logarithmic). Perhaps is there a simple way to make an x2 tic for every 100th point and have that tic be the value of the third column? Thanks! |

Hello everybody, I could finish my x-y-z-plot happily - thanks, this will be very useful for my work. Now a second issue comes up: I'd like to visualize the number of passengers between the different bus tops. Data could be given in 3 columns: <number_of_passengers>, <x-coordinate>, < y-coordinate>. One further detail: I'd like to have the labels outside the edge of the circles - means the offset should be diameter-dependent - in a ratio to the value of one of the columns. Hello - I'm new in gnuplot. I wrote a script which reads single lines with the "every" option. This works well, but I have two questions: 1) I'd love to have the value which is written in column 1 (which is a time in my case) as the legend (key). Is this possible? 2) I have several xy-pairs in a line. I plot them with "myfile.txt" every ::1::1 using 3:2 with imp,\ "" every ::1::1 using 6:5 with imp notitle,\ "" every ::1::1 using 9:8 with imp notitle,\ and so on. Can I change the colors in a way that the first xy-pair (using 3:2 in the example above) is in red colour, and then the color circle is crossed so that the last value is blue?
