Thanks a lot! I think I finally got it :)

That was my label first:
set label 2 "F = 98847.8 C/mol +/- 1.052e+04 C/mol (10.64%)" at 9.5,700000

now it's a little bit longer :)
set label 1 "Faradaykonstante aus Steigung der Geraden" at 9.5,800000
set label 2 "F = " at 9.5,700000
set label 3 sprintf("%f",a) at 10.5,700000
set label 4 "C/mol +/- " at 15.1,700000
set label 5 sprintf("%f",a_err) at 18,700000

the only thing I have problems with are the digits after the comma (I just
wanted to show maybe two digits) and how I can show the percental value. Do
you have some advice for me?

with version >=4.2 a textstring can be read from a file using commands
your operating system provides, have a look at the 1st and 2nd example in:

i tried several gnuplot versions (4.0, 4.2, 4.3), and with the command
plot sin(x) with points pointsize 10 linewidth 20
i always got large points plotted with thick lines.

maybe you should post a sample script which shows your problem.

That's only change the point size to 10.  But (I mean) the density (or the
thickness of point) does not change.  The thickness of the line of the point
is still 1.

No.  They can just 'cd' into the directory holding the demos and run

I think that's trying to solve the problem from the wrong end. 
Distributors worried about that can just preset the environment variable 
GNUPLOT_LIB.

(attached) that modifies the behaviour depending on the presence of the 
GNUPLOT_LIB_DEFAULT preprocessor define.

[Gnuplot-info] duplicate date labels

I am attempting to create a simple plot, in which my x-axis contains date
information.  However, when I attempt to do so, each date tick label appears
twice, 
ie 04/01, 04/01, 04/02, 04/02, ... instead of 04/01, 04/02/, ...

 My commands to plot this are:

> plot "data.txt" using 1:2

I've attached the file "data.txt" to this post.  How do I get the date tick
labels to appear only once?


Additional info:  if I put an x label on the x-axis, without first sending
gnuplot the command "set format x "%m/%d"", I see the time "00:00:00" below
the first label and "12:00:00" below the second.  These only appear if I put
a label on x and don't give the x formatting command.

Dear listmembers,
I find two issues with gnuplot annoying since years and I would like to 
suggest two patches I send along with this email.

1.) _if_ one runs "all.dem" (or any of the related demos) from a location 
where the user cannot write, the demos fail. This is caused by logfiles being 
written to the current location rather than to /tmp. I think it would _really_ 
make sense to ensure that unexperienced users may run the demos flawlessly 
from whereever they are actually. The patch called gnuplot-4.3.0-demo.dif 
along with this email cares for this issue.
2.) to access the locally installed demo a user is forced to know about 
loadpath. This seems to me like putting the cart before the horse. 
Consequently I added an option to define a default loadpath _not_ impacting 
any other loadpath through the compile time define GNUPLOT_LIB_DEFAULT. So any 
distributor may help his users by simply opening the path to running the demos 
without forcing further knowledge about gnuplot. (gnuplot-4.3.0-
loadpathdefault.dif)

Use it or let it, but this is IMHO a more user friendly approach - especially 
for people not being aware of the capabilities of gnuplot. Moreover one could 
modify the startup message in such a way that the user is being pointed to the 
pool of helpful examples residing on his local computer.

The patches go both against latest CVS

with constant spacing like courier! :-)

interesting:
'xdvi' shows black text while 'dvips' produces a postscript
file with white text.

'set term epslatex ... colortext' produces black text - so let's
see if there's a difference between 'traj2.tex' produces with
'blacktext' vs. 'colortext':

the main difference between 'blacktext' and 'colortext' is a
sequence of '\color{black}%' and '\color{white}%' lines within
the '\gplgaddtomacro\gplfronttext{%' section which is not
existing in the 'colortext' case.
after deleting those lines in 'traj2.tex' (produced with 'blacktext')
the text is black.

the bug is in pslatex.trm, the '\color{...}%.' commands shouldn't
be written into the output file directly but into the variable
'tex_current_color' like all other color changing commands.
