What form that is depends on what kind of gnuplot you're running. AFAIK there are both Unix-ish ones and Mac-ish ones, which I suspect differ in their line break conventions. Traditionally there were three major formats: LF only, on Unix CR only, on MacOS (traditional) CR+LF, on Microsoft platforms Now MacOS X is supposed to be more Unix than traditional MacOS, including the line break convention --- I have no idea how they get that to work without running into walls like the one you encountered, every second step. There have to be translation tools hidden somewhere in all that GUI atmosphere. No, I actually have Gnuplot installed on my Mac, and Excel (Mac) was installed on the same machine. The problem is, I have been given a lot of Excel data (made on a mac though), that I want to import in Gnuplot. How do you suggest I export it? I have the choice between : - UTF-16 Unicode - Tab delimited text - Windows formatted text - MS-DOS formatted text - Windows comma separated - MS-DOS comma separated Although none of these seem very mac-ish, do they? You incorrectly exported those files from the Mac to some other platform. Text files need special treatment to work cross-platforms, to translate between linebreak conventions, if nothing else. How that special treatment is activated depends on the particular export method. If all else fails, you can always use separate tools like 'recode' or 'tr'. |

Hi, You don't have any decent newlines in your file (only ^M, apparently that's not enough, at least in my linux version of gnuplot). A simple change from \n to \r did the trick. Try to export it differently . Also beware of +'s and spaces in file names. Or stick to your Mac, there \n will probably work as it is the default eol character. I like to edit (rotate) my 3D splot in the windows term before I save them to a file. But currently its only possible to choose "print..." from the option menu (copy to clipboard does not give a good quality result). If I do this and print to a pdf (Metafile to EPS converter) file I get a whole A4 page instead of only the are with my plot. I am trying to make a label bold, but it does not work if I use underscore:
set label "P_{11}" at 1,1,1+y_offset font "Helvetica Bold"
If I instead omit the undersocre (subscript) it works fine:
set label "P11" at 1,1,1+y_offset font "Helvetica Bold"
Is it not possible to make text with latex subscripts bold?

I think you need an authoring package for SWF animations if you want to create proper animations with controls like that. But I am not a SWF developer so I could be wrong. One problem with png2swf is that PNGs are bitmaps and SWF graphics are vector. So you might have better luck with SVG, a vector graphic standard. A tool or two exists for this (SVG to SWF) purpose (assuming SVGs don't directly serve you needs), with one example at http://gtrebaol.free.fr/doc/svgopen/2008/index.html I've found the SVG terminal for Gnuplot is very impressive, and much better for web use than PS or PDF. I am also interested in swf terminal and found just one workaround:

Unfortunately, this simple tool does not provide swf with toolbar for
pausing the playback, changing direction and speed etc., which could
be useful for e.g. physics education animations.

I tried to do a fit with gnuplot as follows: $gnuplot > fit a0+a1*(x)**(-2)+a2*(x)**(-4) "file.txt" via a0,a1,a2 and got the following results : a0 = -0.552046 a1 = 0.355 a2 = -0.526979 Please advise how to get more decimal points for the results. Hi. I'm using Gnuplot 4.2.4 and 4.3 CVS (~2009-02-03) to plot some data with the following plot command: plot datafile using 1:($2 > 10000 ? 10001 : $2) smooth bezier with lines title "Smooth Bezier, Capped", \ datafile using 1:2 smooth bezier with lines title "Smooth Bezier", \ datafile using 1:($2 > 10000 ? 10001 : $2) with lines title "Lines, Capped", \ datafile using 1:2 with lines title "Lines", \ datafile using 1:2 with dots title "Dots" Doing so, I noticed that there are "holes" in the curves when I use "smooth bezier". What gnuplot does is not insertion of anything that's missing. You won't find any data points being plotted that weren't in your file lest you asked gnuplot to filter the data into a smooth function. It's just plotting your data on the kind of scale you requested: time/date. And whether you wanted it that way or not, time actually does have 7 days every week, and a little over 365 days every year. > My intent, however, is to NOT have them at all. If what you really wanted is to treat your data as points on a scale that doesn't actually display time, don't tell gnuplot you wanted time. Greetings, I am using a Perl frontend to gnuplot, but still think the question would be appropriate. When I mark my data as 'time' (xdata = 'time'), and my set has missing dates, gnuplot will automatically insert those missing dates. My intent, however, is to NOT have them at all. Dear gnuplot-info subscribers,
gnuplot -persist
command switch allows to leave open graphs even
after the calling application exits.
But I have problems in leaving the mouse "active" in 3D plots.
While 2D plot window created by command
echo "set mouse;plot x;pause -1"|gnuplot -persist
works at least partially with mouse support, providing coordinate
read-out, its 3D couterpart
echo "set mouse;splot x*y;pause -1"|gnuplot -persist
ignores attempts to use mouse for graph rotation etc.
Please, is there any --persist-with-3d-mouse-support option
or something similar ?

either define your own color palette, e.g.:
set palette functions 0,(gray>0.5?1.:0.),(gray<=0.5?1.:0.)
or reduce the number of colors:
set palette maxcolors 2
