These days?  Yes, it does.  The wxt and cairo-based terminal drivers, in 
particular, pull a rather massive chain of support libraries.  For 
comparison: the official Windows build of gnuplot-4.4.0 carries almost 
13 MB of DLLs with it, while gnuplot itself is only  1.6 MB.

So what made you assume the Tab key was supposed to be "working"?

What you're observing there is not so much a problem as a feature that 
wasn't built into your gnuplot executable.  MacOS has recently made it 
unreasonably hard to build gnuplot with full GNU readline support, by 
shipping a fake readline.  Looks like whoever built that fink package 
has capitulated before those obstacles.

Not really.  Size doesn't really even have anything to do with it.
Splitting by size is just as wrong as changing the sorting criterion.

The reason polygons need to be split is to resolve cases where for a
given set of them, none can safely be drawn first.

The algorithm that's needed is the full-featured version of "depth
sorting", known as the Newell-Newell-Sancha algorithm. Any decent
textbook on computer graphics has it.

Mouse interaction might even profit from the trade-off of preprocessing
overhead vs. update speed in this area that this offered by the BSP tree
algorithm.

am doing this by calling a script that works fine just plotting the current

in "gnuplot in action" on page 41.

Yes, I agree completely. "Solved" above meant that it helped me to
produce a reasonable result in a reasonable time, and nothing more.

If that is the current position, then I think it would be reasonable

Unfortunately that's not really a solution.  There is no particular 
reason to prefer one sorting criterion over the other.  Painter's 
algorithm is plain and simply wrong --- no matter which property you 
sort by.  If it appears to work sometimes that's by happenstance, not by 
design.

Replying to myself: actually, after reading some docs (and the code) I
realized that it was a limitation of the rendering algorithm used by the
gnuplot (a variant of painter's algorithm). So, I solved this issue by
patching pm3d.c:pm3d_depth_queue_flush() so that sorting of quadrangles
was done based on the average depth of 4 corners.

It would be nice if this could be made configurable. I will probably
come out with a patch in the next couple of days to enable this feature.

The problem was with terminal "windows". Just change it to "wxt" and problem
vanishes.

I don't think you should be using "double quotes" there.  If you look at 
ps_guide.ps again, you'll not that it uses 'single quotes' throughout

Cause:
You tried to build your own gnuplot, but your system installation (in 
terms of installed packages) isn't quite up to the task.  It didn't find 
any usable GUI terminal driver.

Solution:
Install more of the distribution's *_devel packages, particularly for X11.

That command really makes no sense.  And it's also the reason for your 
problem.

That's because you asked gnuplot to use it for something else.

I'm trying to get two scales for contour (2d surface or map) and vector
field. Lets imaging that we have simple vector filed (x,y,1,0,1.0), where x
is from 0 to 10, y is from 0 to 10. Vector field data is stored in file.dat.
Here command list that i use in gnuplot:

set yr [0:10]

set multiplot #because i need two legends, one for contour, another for
vectors

set pm3d map

set palette color #this palette is for contour, it is _colored_

set palette grey #this palette is for vectors, it is _grey_
splot 'electro.dat' u 1:2:0:3:4:0:($3*$3+$4*$4)**0.5 with vectors palette
notitle #plot vector field, where the vectors is colored in dependence on

By using of multiplot i can place two different colorboxes (or legends) in
different places (didnt pate that part of code due to big amount of text).
But the problem is that two colorboxes has the same palette (grey in this
case). Contour and vector filed are colored in grey palette also.

Why i suppose to do to make two different palettes, one of which is for
contour, the second is for vector field.

I have problem with using "some" postscript symbols in my plots. I use the Postscript Character Codes list in "ps_guide.ps" but some of them are not shown in my plots. What's the problem? Is that because a necessary font is missing? Here's a piece of my gnu code:
