What version of GNUplot and patch level you have installed? I installed the
Win32 zip from  
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnuplot/files/gnuplot/4.4.2. 

Thanks for trying. If anyone else see a similar problem, hope they will have

Because that is what you actually told gnuplot to do.

Oh, but it does.  But you then went on and asked gnuplot not to use any 
numerical xtics at all:

Your use of xticlabels() here is completely at odds with what you expect 
to happen.

That you can't do, because if you "don't know the function of the 
curve", there's no way gnuplot would.

See "help xtics" --- and note that the thing you're looking for is 
actually even called "offset"!  Who'da thunk?

i can't reproduce your problem.
i used your data files and commands and got 2 complete
curves with lines and points.

Well, I actually managed, by setting the terminal to monochrome and using the
following plotting command:

This plots all the data points from File1.csv, but only one point from
File2.csv. So, I see one line and a point.
Using GNU 4.4 patchlevel 2. 
The requirement is clear to have the data split in two files, however with
identical first column.

[Gnuplot-info] xtics not working with autoscale

Hello,
I am getting kind of desperate because the xtics command does not work for me. I
only want a few ticks on the x-axis, but there are way to many. Why does xtics
100 does not change the xtic increment?? My file looks like this:

set title 'BRISMF performace measurement results'

#set style fill solid 1.000000 border -1
#set bmargin 3
set xlabel 'seconds'
set ylabel 'RMSE'
set tics scale 0.0

I am fighting with my script, trying to change the color of my bar charts. I
am sure it is fairly easy but it seems that I cannot figure it out.

Bellow is my script. It currently displays charts in red and green, while I
would like them in light grey and dark grey.

Try curve fitting  and the use that curve for data beyond the last point. Be
careful for extrapolation errors

nope. It just extends the range of x axsis, but not the graph

[Gnuplot-info] Auto scaling and aspect ratio

I have datasets that are essentially 2D planes embedded in 3-space.  
When I plot the data using splot, gnuplot scales each axis separately 
stretching the plane to look more like a cloud of points.  Is there a 
way to force uniform scaling?

I am trying to skip data which is beyond the valid range. The usual way like


p 'aa' u 1:(($2>5)?$2:1/0) w l

leaves in the figure broken lines, which does not look very good.

I am wondering whether I can do the following two ways

(1) remove these points on the x axis?
(2) reset the value of these points as average of the nearby two points(one
before it and one after it)?

if you are plotting data just add the offset to all x-values, e.g.

Hi,

Did you specify an output device?  If you want to write out a file of your
plot, you can specify a PostScript output file with the command:

gnuplot > set terminal postscript landscape enhanced mono dashed lw 1
"Helvetica" 14
gnuplot > set output "nameoffile.ps"
gnuplot > plot

You should see nameoffile.ps in the local directory.  Good luck,

If anyone's to have a chance of investigating that, we'll need details: 
precise versions of gnuplot packages used on that Linux and that M$ box, 
primarily.  If those are binary packages you got from somewhere other 
than our project download site on SourceForge, we'll need the actual URLs.

If you send us (or post to the bug tracker on SourceForge) sample output 
or, failing that, the original PostScript prologues on those machines, 
someone will be able to do that.

knowing that this problem persists across different gnuplot releases on M$ and 
knowing that there is no gnuplot.ini - file neither on M$ nor on linux I tried 
to replace the directory PostScript and it's contents on the M$-tree by the 
same directory from the linux tree.

This fixes the issue. So I am sure that there is a buglett in the postscript 
configuration on M$ that causes arrows to be printed without a real peak on M$ 
platforms (see the example I provided).

Lacking the capability to interpret postscript code I cannot fix this, maybe 
someone with more insight can do this in my place. This is not the fault of a 
misconfiguration but an erratic initial configuration of gnuplot.

I never ever touched this directory before. The opensuse source rpm does not 
contain any patch touching the files going into the PostScript directory as 
far as I can see.

Thanks for pointing me into the right direction, I found my solution, however, 
this solution is not generic.

Platforms rather certainly don't have any relevance to this.  This is 
pretty much guaranteed to be due to either a version difference or a 
configuration difference.

Configuration difference can consist of commands in your ~/.gnuplot or 
its MS Windows equivalent, gnuplot.ini.  See "help startup".   Or maybe 
you modified your PostScript template files on only one of the two 
machines (--> "help postscript prologue"), and don't remember doing it.
