[Gnuplot-info] postscript terminal differences between linux and windows

Dear listmembers,
when plotting graphs I love to have arrows on all relevant axes. To achieve 
this, I usually do the following:

this works without any problem with linux, however I am facing a strange issue 
on the windows platform. The placement of the arrow - nice, as expected, but: 
the arrow tip is missing. In contrast, the tip is cut so that there is a 
straight end of the arrow the width of which is about the size of the line 
thickness.

I would love to provide an example via a ps file if someone would kindly look 
into this. I guess it is an issue of the postscript driver, however, this is 
strange because AFAIK the drivers ought to be the same (eps-terminal gives the 
same result)

Thank you for the reply, Thomas.

Unfortunately, it still did not plot properly.  However, it is much
closer than before; at least I get three lines now :)

With the change you suggested, I have 2 issues.
The first item, "5000-1FE1-5000-BDDC", plots correctly all the way
through, (1) but the second and third lines (strings ending with D and
E) plot starting at 0.

I fixed this by setting y1=y2=y3=NaN.  So that gets it starting at the
right values.

(2) The rest of those two lines are plotting multiple values on the y
axis still.  I added a "set table 'table.out' " to the config and I
can see what's going on, but still unsure of how to fix it.

As you can see from the table output below, when the next timestamp (X
value) is approached, the second and third items are setting their Y
values on it making a second plot on the same timestamp.

Hello,

I'm trying to plot read and write requests from a storage array.  I
have an application that dumps data with each array controller's read
and write requests on a separate line.  I'd rather not mangle the data
from the original application's dump if possible.  Within gnuplot, I'm
trying to conditionally say, "If the 4th column is <predetermined
name>, then plot the sum of columns 2 and 3."  It's not working out
for me, so far.  Instead of three lines, I get a single line with
multiple points on the same y axis.  Below is my config and data file.
 Is this even possible with gnuplot?  Any help is certainly
appreciated.

Thank you for the pointer Hans. I seeded rand with a random number in each
iteration and it still did not make a difference. To make sure I was doing
it right, for testing purposes, instead of using a loop (the script
loop.gnu), I tried to plot just two graphs in the main script as follows:

A=1
set palette model RGB defined (0 0 0.7 0.2, 1 0.5 0 0.45)
sp '</data/STAF/src/scripts/results/plot_data.sh 1'  u (A):2:3 w pm3d
A=A+1
set palette model RGB defined (0 0.2 0.4 0, 1 0 0.3 0)
sp '</data/STAF/src/scripts/results/plot_data.sh 13' every ::1::2 u (A):2:3
w pm3d

And both the above graphs also got plotted in the same color. There is still
probably something I still am not understanding. Can you see what I am doing
wrong? 
I am using gnuplot version 4.4 patchlevel zero.

Dear all,

I am very new to both linux and gnuplot. some how from different forums, i
have installed gnuplot 4.4.2 on my ubuntu system. Now whenever i write
gnuplot on my terminal one interative gnuplot terminal opens. As an tutorial
i have started with the gnuplot in action documentation. But when i tried
the very first example of it, i failed to do so. i wrote (plot "marathon"
using 1:2 with boxes) on gnuplot terminal after creating a data txt file
named marathon.txt.

It does not show any error too but along with that i could not file any plot
file. 
please help.

I rather much doubt that it can be achieved at all, given the way 'pm3d' 
has always refused to cooperate with the other plotting modes, 
particularly 'set hidden3d'.  pm3d started out as a global plotting 
mode, rather than a graph style for individual datasets.  What you 
observe is one of the remaining effects of that design.

That's because you misunderstand the working of the rand() function. 
Like just about all pseudo-random number generators in the world of 
computing, rand() returns the same results in every gnuplot session, 
unless you seed it with a different start-up value.  See "help rand".

The error message is pretty clear, isn't it?  The version of gnuplot 
you're running doesn't have the PNG terminal driver.  So either you have 
to choose a different output format, or install gnuplot such that it has 
a PNG driver.

[Gnuplot-info] how to change the canvas size of eps file

Dear All,

I had problem with creating an eps file differing from the default canvas
size. I used the following command, which partially does the job, but it
seems I have to scale all other size dependent quantities as well to
maintain the relative ratio, which is too troublesome. I am sure there must
be better way to do it,

The following are my sample code

Hi Thomas,

You solved it! The reason for the range of colors in the "set cbrange" command is that this identical colorbox has to apply to a whole series of charts.  Across the series, one or more of the charts has a value of 115. 

I changed "set cbrange" to "set cbrange [0:21]" and ran "unset colorbox" and it removed the colorbox without changing the colors!

So now I just have to update the "set palette" command individually for each chart in cases where I am not showing the colorbox, so that each chart will show the same values in the same colors.

[Gnuplot-info] Arrows inside ylabel ?

Hi all,

I want to insert an arrow in the ylabel.
Something lie this:

set ylabel "better <----- [s]"

The solution with the "<-----" looks awfull. :-(
How can I do this in a more good-looking way?
