[Gnuplot-info] generate png file yet complaining gdImageStringFT: Could not find/open font ...

Hello Guys,

I tried to generate png file. I firstly tried

convert aaa.eps -resize 640 480 aaa.png

outside gnuplot, but the plot is smeared out due to magnification.

So, I tried to generate png file within gnuplot using set term png, but it
complains

gdImageStringFT: Could not find/open font while printing string Experiment
with font Times-Roman
gdImageStringFT: Could not find/open font while printing string Experiment
with font Times-Roman
gdImageStringFT: Could not find/open font while printing string Calculation
with font Times-Roman
gdImageStringFT: Could not find/open font while printing string Calculation
with font Times-Roman
...

I did some google search and found that it could be that png cannot find the
required path to the font, so I included the path as the following,

set term png font "/home/.../fmaker55/fminit/fontdir/Times-Roman.pfa" 12
enhanced

this is the only Times-Roman file I can find in the computer with ttf or pfa
surrfix.

But it still complains the same thing.

Any idea to help me solve the png generation problem?

So the graphic will be something like, in the first X value(openbsd)  
will have 5 bars (Netbsd, Freebsd, Solaris, Redhat and win2003), but the 
problem is that the bars are overlapping instead of being side-by-side...

[Gnuplot-info] False Color Plot - Y Axis Tic Labels on the Right?

I'm building a false color plot. I would like the y axis tic labels to appear on the right.  Currently they appear on the left.

How can I get the y axis tic labels to appear on the right of the plot? Sample code is attached.

no, the 'latex' terminal uses the '\rule' command to
draw black boxes.

to change this somebody would have to obey the
    /* TODO: Something other than black/white */
comment in 'term/latex.trm' and add colors and/or
patterns.

the 'test' (instead of a 'plot') command gives a plot showing the
capabilities of the actual terminal.
the terminal 'latex' only knows black and white, because of latex's
'picture' environment.

maybe you could use the 'epslatex' terminal.

but this time, odd patterns are black and even patterns are white.
There is any other solution to distinguish those bars? Like a

Dear gnuplot specialists,

I am trying to produce plots in which spatial densities (density
color-coded) are combined with structure data (positions, lines in
space). An example for the kind of plot is attached, with the problem
reduced to the minimum. In this example

"densityfile"  using 1:2:3:4 with pm3d

is used to generate the density in a particular area of space,

"linefile"  using 1:2:3 with lines lc rgb "black" lt 1 

etc generates the additional structures around. What I do not manage to
achieve in this way is proper ordering of the various elements in space.
I am aware of the discussion triggered by user joanpau in May of this
year. For that reason I am using gnuplot 4.4.2 (on Ubuntu Lucid). Still
the pm3d element always stays on top (rotate the example to see what I
mean). Is there a way around this?

The function voigt(x,y) is implemented on gnuplot 4.5 but not on 4.4.
Please see the plot manual for gnuplot 4.5 section 13.1

[Gnuplot-info] multiple lines from batch job

I'm having trouble plotting multiple lines from a batch job.  What I would
like to do is draw multiple lines on a single plot where each line has
different X values.  I was thinking that the file should look some this:

plot "-" index 0 using 1:2, "-" index 1 using 1:2
# X Y
0 1
2 5


1 10
4 11
end
pause-1

When I try to run this with 'gnuplot "file.plt"' from the command line (not
the gnuplot prompt), I get an error "Skipping data file with no valid
points".  I've tried moving index 1 to its own plot command, so

plot "-" index 0 using 1:2
plot "-" index 1 using 1:2

When I do this, it only plots the data from index 0.

Any suggestions?

[Gnuplot-info] voigt function fitting

Dear gnuplotters,

I'm trying to fit a voigt profile to a spectrum. The voigt profile is
defined as the convolution of a gaussian with a lorentzian (or
alternatively the real part of the complex error function with
argument x + i*gamma, where gamma is the lorentzian width. All divided
by sigma - the gaussian width).

My labmate has always used matlab for fitting spectra, but always
gaussians. I tried a few things in Matlab but they didn't quite work.
I've used gnuplot to fit spectra (only gaussians again) and it has
worked very well, but I don't know how to do voigt profiles in it.

A quick google search "gnuplot voigt"  has this as first hit:

Which states there was a commit, back in January, to gnuplot to
implement a voigt function. But I've tried typing 'help voigt' and I
get nothing in the gnuplot CLI.

I'm using gnuplot 4.4.0 as shipped with Debian Squeeze (testing). So
was this code commit accepted for version 4.4.x or should I be looking
at 4.5.x to see this new feature implemented?

In any case, I still need to do the fitting, so anyone has any
experience with this and could point out some help?

[Gnuplot-info] Histogram/Bar Plot Troubles

Hi all,

I'm a novice with gnuplot and I'm trying to make a histogram or bar plot
that looks like the following:

but I can't for the life of me get a gnuplot script to do this. I can get
frequency on the y-axis but I want to get a percentage, and my male/female
columns overlap with the same color on output:

placed...

it's really strange, because if I add, for example, 'smooth unique' at the
end of the last command, the numbers look ok!

looked ok.

is there any profile which is loaded when you start gnuplot?

if you start gnuplot and execute only the commands you have posted, is the
plot still faulty?

[Gnuplot-info] two pages generated with bounding box created too small, involving multiplot again

I had asked a question concerning bounding box issue using multiplot when
generating eps to pdf by epstopdf. Now I ran into similar issues. I applied
all the helps I collected from the correspondences in the script but still
didn't fully work out. The scripts are given below,

The command lines to generate ccc.eps is

gnuplot> set term postscript eps enhanced
Terminal type set to 'postscript'

Then apply

epstopdf ccc.eps

to generate a pdf file. It gives *two* pages, of size 1,1, with the first
page blank, the second page containing only part of the two graphs. Both
ccc.eps and ccc.pdf is included for your information.

The expected result is: a single page only containing full plots of both
graphs.

I tried hard, but really cannot get any clue. Please help me on this issue!
