i tried several versions (4.2.0, 4.2.2, 4.2.3, 4.4, 4.5) and always the plot
looked ok.

is there any profile which is loaded when you start gnuplot?

if you start gnuplot and execute only the commands you have posted, is the
plot still faulty?
