I see from other posts that Wirelessdriver works with Panther...but has anyone tried to install Wirelessdriver on top of Panther, as oppossed to an update install? I backed up & wiped my PB drive before installing Panther. First thing I did after installing Panther was to plug in ethernet and download the latest Wirelessdriver. After I did so, I rebooted. The PC card was working before the Panther install...now the PC card's LEDs are dark. (The card is a Dell TrueMobile 1150). The card is visible to the system (via the menu-bar PC card list) and when I use the troubleshooting shell script, I see it respond. All seems good. But when I go into the Network preference pane, I can't add an EN1 configuration. The WirelessConfig pref pane does nothing; none of its controls are active. Not sure what's up. For fun, I stuck an SMC 2635W in there too (not certain if it's a Prism card, but thought I'd try anyway) -- no dice. Any ideas? ------------------- Rob Terrell Avacast Corporation http://www.avacast.com |

I have installed and tested Panther 10.3 with my Powerbook, Pismo G3/500/256. I am using the Orinoco Silver and WEP enabled. No problems! It runs as smooth as it did with Jaguar. Thank you David Kephart for the FYI. I was really leery about installing Panther in the blind. Thanks for the great driver! we1 |

re: panther compatibility. FYI, for the recent questions... I've been using the wireless driver with panther 10.3.0 (7b85) for longer than might be legally imaginable on a pismo with a proxim skyline with the intersil chipset with no problems... wake up from sleep has had no errors either. Hope this allays any fears. -dk |

With all that being said, I was able to compile the current CVS code with Apple's Xcode (developer's tools). I installed it by hand, and everything seems to work at least okay. I will have an update shortly to clean up a lot of the power management and sleep handling code to make it work better with Panther. I've just gotten further behind recently than planned or I would have had it ready prior to Panther's release. At around the same time, I'll be posting the bulk of the new code for those interested in tinkering with it. If anyone out there has a code fix for the current version they'd like to share before I have the chance to fix it myself, I'll happily post it. So (just stupidly reiterating the description to make sure I'm following it, since I'm dumb like that), I take it that if you are running wirelessdriver with Panther (and the wireless card is inserted), and the machine goes to sleep, and you wake it, and then it goes to sleep a second time, it won't then wake up afterwards? I am using a Orinoco Silver Card for my G3 WallStreet and it works fine, it also works with my PB 3400c as well. Did you download the Mac software from Orinoco website? You need to have its driver to run the card. You can call Orinoco for the website address to download the driver. Thomas |

Grey wolf : use the custom install and make sure that you have the prism card support checked. If it doenst work after reboot you have to do some rather simple kextloadfu, i'll tell you later. urbnpace: you can look for the knockoff WLC3010 card.. its a broadcom and works with apples airport SW. they are about 50 bucks and are on sale at lost of place. look at pricewatch.com. Carl edlund : Yes ive tried it and the computer will fail to wake from sleep if the card is in the slot after the second attempt to wake from sleep. you have to power off the card and remove it and then sleep. |

I purchased a Buffalo AirStation WLI-CB-G54A (the -A is for an external antenna connector, there's a lower-cost model without it), capable of 802.11b and g, but I think not a. Plugged it into my PowerBook G3 Wallstreet (10.2.6 at the time, now 10.2.8), and it worked fine. Apple's AirPort software recognized it and used it without a hitch. Not all 802.11g cards work, it depends on the chipset, and I believe Orinoco's is not compatible with Apple or with the Wireless Driver. I'm still keeping Wireless Driver around, though, since it doesn't conflict with Apple software and I might need to use the (old) Orinoco Gold as a backup. |

I wonder the same? I know Rob has been VERY VERY busy, I thank all of his work on this project. I hear that the 802.11g cards work with the airport software, but all I would need would be able to use the signal on the top right to select a network and connect like a regular airport. It would be great, hopefully something like this will work on Panther. Keep up the good work, hopefully an update soon? :) It's been a loong while. Thanks, Darrin K. Didn't Rob just resently post that he's going to release an update very soon? He had been very busy with other stuff, and that was the reason that there have been no updates. Yup. That's pretty much the conclusion I came to. It's hard to see things clearly when you're in the middle of it though and that's probably why I stayed there as long as I did. Of course... my goal of having the code posted by the end of last week fell behind because I got stuck on a plane and flown across country to help a client prep some stuff we had written for them to be shown at the AES show which started today. I'm back now and will be doing that work over the weekend. -Rob On Oct 9, 2003, at 9:47 PM, Kori Lessing wrote: > > Rob, > 18 hours a day? That sounds like a consulting job. I have a Powerbook G3 (NOT bronze keyboard) and purchased an Orinoco Combo a/b/g Gold PC card. Inserting it at any time cause my system to freeze so that I can't even try to see if the wireless driver works. I was hoping to be able to have access for at least both b/g networks. Can someone point me to which are the "best" PC cards to use in my Powerbook? Mainly I'd like to use it to hop on wireless networks at cafes, as well as connect to a Linksys wireless cable router at my dad's place.
