i am trying (and trying and trying) to use the belkin wireless pc card f5d6020 ver.2 on my PB g3 firewire running OS X 10.6.2. I have tried the installer and the card comes up on my top bar. the preference 'wireless config' shows up in system prefs. however the selection 'en1' does not show up as a port i can select. i have tried running the text you show in my terminal and i still get no luck. even after reboot. i have tried installing, rebooting, downloading a new one, reinstalling, rebooting etc. i have tried deleting the .ktext files like it was suggested. can you help me out ( i am pretty tech savy, but some of the terminal commands are over my head) is there a way i can get this card to work? it is in your supported list. thanks a lot for your help... seth i have run the troubleshooter and got the following: Last login: Mon Sep 8 23:32:16 on console /Volumes/WirelessDriver\ beta\ 5.1/Utilities/Troubleshooting\ Info.command; exit Welcome to Darwin! Everything seems to be configured correctly and working fine - I even get a signal indicator in the Wireless Config panel - EXCEPT: no connection to the internet. Lights on Orinoco card are lit (one steady, one flickers occasionally and stops). BTW: This computer connects perfectly when booted in OS 9.2.2 with the same card - it's recognized as Airport Card. In OS 10.2.6 no joy no joy :( What to do next? Any suggestions? |

I have a PB G3 Lombard and recently bought a Lucent Tech Silver card for it. I'm having several issues. First, when I insert the card I can see its name listed under the card icon but it remains grey. If I try to set up Airport assistant it tells me it cannot detect an airport card. Also, when I try to set up the configuration for the driver it does not detect a base station and shows that there is no signal strength. Can anyone help? Don |

I started this quest for wireless access with an unsupported card. Now I have a Proxim Orinoco Silver, I was hoping that my problems would end. This is not the case however. i installed the drivers and was disappointed to find that the control panel was still greyed out and not working. I completely wiped my hard-drive and reinstalled os x. After getting all the updates downloaded again I proceeded to install the driver according to this guide. http://musox.com/macosx/wirelessdriver.html After a restart I still got the greyed out control panel. I attempted to edit the plist file as the FAQ describes but that also failed to activate the card. I am just fresh out of ideas. Please someone help. p.s. A small pc card looking icon appears when I insert the card but that is all. I have gone through the same series of problems that you did: returned a 650+ after I found out that (unlike the 650) it wasn't supported, then got a Proxim Orinoco Silver. The bad news is that this new card probably isn't supported, either. If you check it, I'll bet you'll find that it is model number 8421-WD, which has a Hermes chipset rather than the Prism. I've just returned mine and ordered an Orinoco Classic Gold card, which I hope will do the trick at long last. It's been a bit of an ordeal, but I didn't put the effort I should have into carefully reading the support archives before I bought. Mark |

I was having trouble with a D-Link 650+ card. A friend of mine told me that it was not supported so I returned it and bought at Proxim Orinoco Silver. When I plugged that into my PB I could again not get the control panel for the card to respond at all. I ran your uninstaller script. Then I ran DiskFirstAid. After a restart I tried to reinstall the software. Unfortunately it allways hangs up right after I push install. I was able to install the individual components ConfigApps and PrefPanes but the final component WirelessDriver give the following issue. I get past the login then the first time I hit the "choose your drive screen" my HD is red. I back up and try again it lights up green. Then I continue and hit install. After a few seconds the blue bar stops advancing and the program tells me an error has occurred. It does not say which one. Please for pity's sake help me. I am desperate to get this to work. Anything useful will result in copious amounts of gratitude. ### system info ProductName: Mac OS X ProductVersion: 10.2.6 BuildVersion: 6L60 Darwin CyberSimo.local. 6.6 Darwin Kernel Version 6.6: Thu May 1 21:48:54 PDT 2003; root:xnu/xnu-344.34.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC Power Macintosh powerpc ppc750 ### wireless driver files installed drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 May 2 01:03 IOPCCardFamily.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root admin 102 Aug 29 18:48 WirelessDriver PPane.prefPane ### wirelesscard info | | "VersionOneInfo" = ("Agere Systems","Wireless PC Card Model$ | | +-o pccard156,3@0,0 <class IOPCCard16Device> | | "IOName" = "pccard156,3" ### network info lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280 en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::250:e4ff:fed0:d27f%en0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4 inet 192.168.0.102 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255 ether 00:50:e4:d0:d2:7f media: autoselect (100baseTX <full-duplex>) status: active supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex> ### wd command line tool status /Volumes/WirelessDriver beta 5.1/Utilities/Troubleshooting Info.command: WirelessConfig: command not found logout -- Daniel Hillesheim sa...@be... |

I received a message from musox with some information on trying to get my card up and running. I followed his plan on http://musox.com/macosx/wirelessdriver.html to no avail. I wanted to add some more information about my problem now that I have it. I got the troubleshooting script to run, it's out put is below. The router I am trying to connect to is a d-link 614+. The router is working on both ethernet and wireless modes. I have a pb lombard 400 if that helps. I checked Wireless Config preference panel but all the options are grey so that I can not access them. Please help I will provide any extra information. Thanks again. Most likely w/the double install there is are two PreferencePanes, one should be in /Library/PreferencePanes/, Keep that there. The other one should be in /System/Library/PreferencePanes/. Remove that one. It is ideal to keep the system installed Preference Panes in the System folder vs. the Preference Panes you install via third party software in the /Library/PreferencePanes/. To remove the System PreferencePanes it will require you to use the Terminal and "su" or "sudo" to rm -rf WirelessDriver\ PPane.prefPane/. Hi, I=B9m sorry if this was already discussed in this forum, but I cannot access the forum archive to find out =AD www.sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum=3Dwirelessdriver-support doesn=B9t respond. I have a PowerBook G3 Firewire (Pismo) and a Farallon Skyline 11Mb card and when at a friend=B9s house I cannot see his network. He has a Airport Extreme Dual-Ethernet (snow) base station. However, I can see his neighbor=B9s network! In comparison, my friend can see *both* network in his Airport menu with hi= s Airport Extreme card-equipped iBook. Is it a known issue that WirelessDriver 1.0b5 doesn=B9t work in this configuration or is there something wrong on my end? Also, it would be great if WirelessDriver could detect automatically the networks in range, and even automatically connects to the strongest signal. That=B9s most convenient when you travel between 2 locations (say home and office) and have to *manually* type the current network name =AD assuming you know it! - in the wirelessdriver=B9s preference pane. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to b6 or even 1.0 final :-) Cheers, -- jj. After installing the driver, I rebooted with the card was plugged in. I went to the network control panel and tried to select en(1) or en(2). Unfortunately only the regular ethernet and modem options were available. Below I have copied the info from the terminal prompts. I tried to use the script but it said the link was bad. Below is the recipe I ended up using to bring up WirelessDriver beta 5.1 on 10.2.6 for a card not initially listed in the installer. This recipe was run on a 250MHz Wallstreet. 1. Install the driver, but do not reboot just yet. 2. Insert the wireless card. 3. Invoke "WirelessDriver beta 5.1/Utilities/Troubleshooting info" script and note the "IOName" value. For a NetGear MA401 this is "pccardb,7300". 4. Open a terminal window and sudo your favorite editor to add your card's IOName to the "/System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist" IONameMatch section as described in http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net/faq.html#supported 5. Purge the kext caches with: sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.ktextcache sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext 6. Reboot. 7. Troubleshooting info script should now show en1. 8. Set up Wireless Config preferences 9. Adjust your Network preferences. This brought up a NetGear MA401 without trouble. This is a summary of previous posts (especially those by yuriwho). --rich |

I needed a replacement for a lost Orinoco Gold for my Wallstreet running 10.2.6. Since the Belkin card was $40 after rebate I figured I'd give it a try. The card has a model # "F5D6020 v.2" printed on it The box has a model # "F5D6020" and a "ver. 2101" sticker on it. ioreg -l reports: | | "IOName" = "pccard1bf,3302" It doesn't work with this driver. Whenever the system sensed the card it would crash. Inserting the card into a running system triggered a kernel panic. Attempting to boot with the card inserted would hang during the gray screen phase with a band of black and white garbage across the middle of the screen. Belkin's customer support was unhelpful. The Belkin was returned for refund. I'm now up and running with a NetGear card. --rich |

Hi, A friend of mine just gave me a wireless LAN PC Card called Melco WLI-CB-B11. I tried to use it on my PB G3 (firewire) with your driver, but EN1/EN2 was not showed up. The card was not listed in the list of supported cards, so, my assumption was I could not use it; however, I would like to know whether it is impossible to suppor the card or you might eventually support it in the future. The result of Troubleshooting Info is as follow: +++++ ### system info ProductName: Mac OS X ProductVersion: 10.2.6 BuildVersion: 6L60 Darwin Macintosh.local. 6.6 Darwin Kernel Version 6.6: Thu May 1 21:48:54 PDT 2003; root:xnu/xnu-344.34.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC Power Macintosh powerpc ppc750 ### wireless driver files installed drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Aug 21 04:18 WirelessDriver.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 May 2 14:03 IOPCCardFamily.kext ### wirelesscard info | | "VersionOneInfo" = ("Realtek","Rtl8139") ### network info lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280 en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::230:65ff:fe74:6f1e%en0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4 inet 192.168.0.2 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255 ether 00:30:65:74:6f:1e media: autoselect (100baseTX <full-duplex>) status: active supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex,hw-loopback> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <half-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <full-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex,hw-loopback> ### wd command line tool status /Volumes/WirelessDriver beta 5.1/Utilities/Troubleshooting Info.command: WirelessConfig: command not found logout [Process completed] +++++ Thank you very much in advance. -keiji |

If you remove the file and boot without the pccard in the slot you should get your airport back to en1, then insert the pccard and en2 should appear. Editing and rebooting is probably the best option :) Cheers, Cliff On Monday, Aug 18, 2003, at 15:23 US/Pacific, Kevin Johnson wrote: > Removing the /private/var/db/NetworkInterfaces.xml and rebooting > somewhat worked. Proxim recently released a new ORiNOCO 11b Client Gold PC Card with a Model number of 8420-wd, and a new ORiNOCO 11b Client Silver PC Card with a Model number of 8421-wd. These card uses a Hermes 2.0 chipset and no longer have Firmware on the card. Because of these changes, we are not aware of any Mac Drivers which support these cards. IOXperts hopes to support these cards in a future version of our commercial driver, but they are not supported at this time. Dave Koziol VP of Engineering IOXperts, Inc. |

Removing the /private/var/db/NetworkInterfaces.xml and rebooting somewhat worked. My airport card became en2 and wirelessdriver card is now en1. Cliff Skolnick says that he edited the file. When I did that didn't work but removing (actually renamed) gave me the above results. Sure beats reinstalling :-). David, Please take a look at my site for install help: http://musox.com/macosx/wirelessdriver.html I have an Orinoco Gold card with my G3 Lombard so things should be ok. If you have troubles, reply with the troubleshooting script results. - Justin ---------- Original Message ------------- Subject: [Wirelessdriver-support] Orinoco Gold and OS 10.2.6 Date: Sun, 17 Aug 2003 20:25:16 -0700 From: David Teitel <dft...@pe...> To: <wir...@li...> I recently bought my daughter an Orinoco Gold PC card adapter for her G3 Powerbook running 10.2.6. Previously she used a Skyline card in OS 9 without a problem. She has installed the new WirelessDriver and sees it in the System Prefs and sees the card in the menu bar, but all the options of both are greyed out and there is no EN1 or EN2 option in Network Prefs. She tried to follow the recommendation on the website to use the Terminal to install EN1/2, but each time she types in a line it gives her an error message. And when we click on the link to get the "uninstall" script, it says that url can't be located. She has tried to install it a couple of times and still it doesn't work. Any ideas? I had the same issue when trying different cards on the driver. The only thing I found was reinstalling the OS. =( - Justin ---------- Original Message ------------- Subject: [Wirelessdriver-support] removing extra enX interface Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2003 13:31:14 -0400 From: Kevin Johnson <ke...@ca...> To: Wir...@li... I've been using the driver for about a year now. It is working wonderfully. I've been using several cards for testing. My current cards shows up a en5. Do anyone know if/how to remove the old cards so I can get the my latest card to back to en2. En0 - physical ethernet port En1 is my Airport card and I'd like en2 to be my wireless driver card.
