I do have a new version, but it has been delayed - both to try and sort out a few issues and because I've been working 18 hours a day for the past several months and, every time I think I can get time to work on it, something else has landed on me. I've now switched jobs and should be posting the new code by the end of the week. I do apologize about not keeping people better informed. That's my fault. -Rob On Sep 24, 2003, at 3:15 PM, Pepe Leches wrote: > > This projet seems a bit far form being active. I have picked up some new sleep issues while using 10.2.8 and 10.3. After i put it to sleep the second time the PB locks up. This happens only if the card is in the slot. PS Has anyone emailed anyone of the developers to see whats going on? |

Hi I am trying to get ml DWL-650 working on my PowerBook. The card does not light up and I cannot get it recognized as a eth1 or eth2 card on my system. I have installed and un-installed the drivers a few times with no success. I have tried the manual command line entries but no luck. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. This projet seems a bit far form being active. The last file posted in "Download" is from August, 2002 SInce then, there have been only 12 posts in the developers list. So I guess this is as far as the authors got with it, and last summer they simply let it stay as it is now. But then, in 2003-05-25, Rob McKeever announced he had a new version with WEP and network scanning ready for testing ("Interest in testing a new version of the WirelessDriver?") I wonder what ever happened to this ghost release, and more important, if anything can be done to help support more devices, etc. |

Hi all I am trying to use a Netgear WG511 (802.11b & g). After installing it =20= does not show up in the Network Control Panel, so I guess I am out of =20= luck. On the other hand I know a little bit of C/C++ and would like to =20 volunteer to help with testings, etc. I just would like to have some hints about where to start. This is some info I have gathered about the card: .- This webpage supports it for linux. The ISL3890 is called = "Prism =20 Duette": =20 http://ruslug.rutgers.edu/~mcgrof/802.11g/Documentation/=20 supported_cards.php .- This is the manufacturer=B4s model page: =20 http://www.netgear.com/products/details/WG511.asp This is the Troubleshooting Info script output. It seems to have some trouble finding some files, maybe because my OS =20= is in spanish? I was wondering if anyone could help me with configuring an ORiNOCO Silver card on a Wallstreet PowerBook. I've been able to get it working with the ORiNOCO drivers under 9.2, but not with the wireless driver under 10.2.6. This is a Lucent ORiNOCO Silver with an ORiNOCO RG-1100 base station. The base station does have WEP encryption turned on. I am not sure how to turn it off as I do not have a Windows machine on which to install the configuration software. I would like to run the troubleshooting script at http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net/utilities/troubleshooting.sit, but there doesn't appear to be anything there. Thanks for your help, Andy |

The latest round of Orinoco cards are based on the HERMES 2.0 controller, which is not compatible with drivers for previous versions of HERMES. They will not work with either the WirelessDriver or the IOXperts driver. > 2. The card itself should work fine with either 40-bit or 128-bit WEP. This may be a WirelessDriver limitation, but is not a hardware problem. > That being said, both of my cards are > able to take the Airport password and retrieve the proper hex-code. No. The transformation of the password to a hex code is done on your Mac, not on the base station. > I hope to get answers soon so that I'm not forced to plunk down the $20 > for the ioxperts driver. The IOXperts driver won't help you with the newer card (as I noted above, it breaks for everyone), but it would allow you to use 40-bit WEP on the older Gold card. You can test it out to confirm this without having to plunk down any money. Amanda Walker (disclaimer: I wrote the IOXperts driver) |

I too have this card and am encountering the same problems in OS X 2.6 on my Lombard PB. I'm also getting to my limit on technical expertise (I'm a web designer not a techie!), so, does the ioxperts driver work with an orinoco gold card? If it does, I'll happily shed out $20! That is unless there is a simple solution to this wireless driver issue. I need this wireless network so I don't have to work in my hallway! Two questions: 1. I just bought a Proxim Orinoco Gold card for my 400 MHz TiBook. As other people have reported, it is not recognized by WirelessDriver. In part, this is because during Orinoco's switch from Lucent to Proxim, the IOName of the card switched from "pccard156,2" to "pccard156,3". In the 1.0.0b5 version of WirelessDriver that I installed, "pccard156,3" does not appear in /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist, so I added the following line: <string>pccard156,3</string> Now the card is recognized so that it shows up as en2 in an `ifconfig -a` command or in the Network Preference Pane, but unfortunately, the ethernet MAC address does not get properly initialized, defaulting to 00:00:00:00:00:00 as you can see in the Troubleshooting Info that follows. Does anybody have a suggestion about how I might be able to get the MAC address read properly? 2. I am fortunate to have access to a Lucent Orinoco card as well for testing purposes, and that card, having the IOName "pccard156,2", gets its MAC address read properly. Unfortunately, my department has its Airport network set up in 40-bit encryption mode, and it appears that only 128-bit encryption is supported for the Orinoco Gold card. This strikes me as a bit odd (that the silver card has 40-bit support, and the gold card can't do 40-bit). That being said, both of my cards are able to take the Airport password and retrieve the proper hex-code. My understanding is that this means that the card is able to communicate with the base station and retrieve this information. It is sad that the communication has to end there. Is there a simple explanation as to why 128-bit encryption works and 40-bit doesn't? I hope to get answers soon so that I'm not forced to plunk down the $20 for the ioxperts driver. Thank you. Hello, I read in a previous message from Mohoganogan that he succesfully put a silver (orinoco/wavelan) card in the internal airport slot of a powerbook pismo. I am trying to figure out if this is also possible for the other airport-ready powerbooks and ibooks. Also I don't quite see how to put such a card in the internal slot, seeing that the card has an antenna blob sticking out... Could someone please enlighten me? Best regards, gerard |

Hi, Here is the problem: I live in the building with no Internet. From a stairway window there is straight line of sight (partially obstructed by trees) to a building with 8 hotspots. The distance from that WINDOW to my room is 55 feet. I have Apple Powerbook G4 with additional PC wireless card (EnGenues 200mW) and directional Yagi antenna (12 db). From the window I have good/ decent connection with 4-6 hotspots, from my room with 2 but signal is VERY weak (unusable). Running 55 foot cable will result in unacceptable loss of signal ( 3.4 db for cable plus who knows how much for two N connectors). Would be nice to find a receiver of some kind,to place it on the window, and to run ethernet cable to my room. My understanding is that using an access point as a client is impossible, as it would require to reprogram the "base station" access points, which I don't have access to. I tried to use repeaters, (lynksis, D-link, NetGear) But each one works only with the same brand. But I need something compatible to any access point, as signals from the hot spots change, people can move, set up access restrictions etc. Antenna amplifiers I could find are very expensive (over $300). I am on a limited budget. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated Thank you very much Moshe _________________________________________________________________ Need more e-mail storage? Thanks for the response. I had previously checked the FAQ page, but the 521 card was not listed. Since I saw another post asking about the card, I wondered if anyone else had experience using the 521 card with the Wireless Driver. Do you know if it would work? Or is there a better card available that works? Thanks Tony On Friday, September 12, 2003, at 10:28 PM, we 1 wrote: > Hi, > Try going here and looking at the FAQs. But I do know that the Linksys 802.11b card works just fine in my ti667 - only exception Is that WEP security won't work yet. I am thinking of buying the Netgear MA521 card for my 15" TiBook. I was wondering if the Wireless Driver is compatible (or if it should be compatible with the card)? I saw in the FAQ that the MA401 card should work, and that some people have been able to get it to work, but I didn't see the MA521 listed. I also saw in the mailing list a question about MA521 compatibility, but there wasn't an answer. Does anyone know if this card should work with the Wireless Driver? If not, what card do you recommend? I'm looking for a non-Airport card for better range. I will probably be buying the Netgear MR814 wireless router. Thanks in advance for any help! Tony |

OK, I've tried with this card from Tiger Direct..... It doesn't show any signal strength, and also no network. In searching the archives, I have seen references to changing the ktext, but I don't know how or where to go about that.
