Thanks for the response Kori. But then, how would I configure an AirPort or AirPort Extreme card to work using key index 2? Mark, If you are connecting with an Airport Card then you shouldn't be using this driver. Use the Apple Software only. You will have to un-install any non-apple driver software. I have an AirPort Card in my powerbook and I'm running 10.3.5 First, the wireless network here at the university of michigan b-school has to means of connecting via wireless - neither of them works for me: 1) WPA-PSK, TKIP 2) WEP using key index = 2 Now I tried that driver on the site that says it works for 10.2. However, to my surprise, it didn't work for me in 10.3.5. Is there a fix for this available? Anything at all? whenever I go to the system preferences and go to Network I never see that er1/er2 stuff. Further, the wireless card preference doesn't let me enter anything. If someone could please let me know how to fix this, it would be much appreciated. Good to hear the driver works well with the Demartech. Just curious, how has your range & reception improved over the installed airport card? -Rob >I gave up trying to get the Wireless driver to work with my Demartech, I was about >to send the card back when I saw Henry Cline"s post about ioXperts driver. Could you specify the system version you use? You mention using this driver for iStumbler, being used to Apples talk-along-the-edge-of-truth I wonder if you also use it for wifi networking, ie. making TCP/IP connections ;-) I'd be interested to try out the networking option. The buffalo is a PRISM too, isn't it? >The only caveat is that I don't think the card is really hotswappable >using Apple's driver. Another option is to try a different card that works with Apple's native driver. I picked up Buffalo's G54 CardBus card for use in my PBG4 on the advice of a member of this list and it works great with the regular AirPort driver -- I can use iStumbler etc just as if I had a regular internal card, and I get the nice AirPort signal strength meter in the menu bar. It was $20 after rebate, so keep an eye out for deals like that. The WirelessDriver worked really well for me for several years but roaming is so much easier with the "real" AirPort driver. The only caveat is that I don't think the card is really hotswappable using Apple's driver. Which kind of makes sense if you think about -- Apple doesn't expect anyone is going to be able to get an internal AirPort card out while the machine is running, so they must not have written any swapping code. But since I'm always online and never take the card out, this works great for me. brian @joannou.net >I too have grudingly admitted that >this project appears to be completely >halted and therefore I've purchased the >aforementioned IOXperts product. |

I gave up trying to get the Wireless driver to work with my Demartech, I was about to send the card back when I saw Henry Cline's post about ioXperts driver. I got it to work first time, and it's been working ever since. m > Has anyone had any more experience with the Demartech 300mW card? > Mark, have you been able to get this to work? > > thanks, > -Rob > dj2000@... |

Folks, I do believe that the man who wrote the driver for ioxperts is the same person who was developing this driver. We were beta testers for the driver. He was paid for the ioxperts driver but this one was free. That's why there will be no further development on the free driver - ioxperts has a copyright on the finished product. That being said, we have come out smelling like a rose, getting an almost-finished product for free. The only problem I know with this driver is that the installer doesn't work right if you do not already have an "OTHER" section in your system preferences. Probably the reason you do not get responses with ioxperts is that the author has gone on to other projects. All new machines come Airport-ready, or with an Airport card installed. The only people who need this driver are people who have old machines (I am using it on my Lombard G3 and I am using the G3 as a web server, as the battery is dead and it isn't worth buying a new battery) So, if you can get this or the ioxperts driver to work, you have been able to extend the life and usefulness of your portable. If you cannot get either one to work, you may need to figure out another use for your PB. I've been on this list for 2-3 years, and that is my evaluation. I do read the messages and try to help when I can. But I have not seen the author post for many months. So enjoy what you have, and try to live with the minor problems that develop. Don't kvetch. I too have grudingly admitted that this project appears to be completely halted and therefore I've purchased the aforementioned IOXperts product. So far, it has been working perfectly. > 1) preferences in MacOS 10.2 don"t seem to stick. I have not experienced this problem. I'm running 10.2.8 on a Wallstreet. I too, walked this route. Meanwhile I have been disappointed in two ways. 1) preferences in MacOS 10.2 don't seem to stick. 2) questions via mail to their support or PR person got no answer. Apart from that, if you are happy to solve issue (1) in that you manually set your prefs each (rare) time that you (re)start your MacOS X, the driver seems to work OK in all occasions. if (2) is due to holiday season, I sincerely hope to receive an answer soon. I do not mean to dissuade anyone from using wireless driver, but I would like to offer up my recent discovery. I have been using WirelessDriver on my PB G3 Pismo for a few years and over OS upgrades 9.2 to 10.3 All in all it works for me, but there have been many pitfalls and I am always a bit squeamish about losing my connection. The problems I have had have all been listed here by numerous folks so I know I am not alone. But it worked and it was free. About three weeks ago I decided to try the only third party wireless driver for Mac (that I know of) from ioxperts. All I can say is that it may be the best $20 I have ever spent in my life. I can open and close the preference pane as much as I want. I never lose my connection. I can select from any available wireless connection through a drop down menu. I installed it once and have never had any issues with the driver since. The demo runs for 30 minutes before disconnecting. http://www.ioxperts.com/80211b_X.html Henry |

Hi, I just got a DWL-122 and discovered how awfully the mac drivers suck. I was wondering if this driver would support it? I'd try it on the machine in question to see for myself but it's a semi-production machine that I'm not too keen on screwing around with. It has a Prism2 chipset, so the only question is, does it support USB? Thanks, Ansley |
