Dumb question here I expect... Can I temporarily disable the wireless-driver and see if the Airport update supports my Linksys PC Card? I also have a (currently non-functional under OSX) Airport card installed. I don't want to permanently lose the wireless-driver; just want to see what Apple's up to with the Airport update if anything. Rick |

I'm trying to get a NetGear MA521 working with the 5.1b5 software, on a Pismo G3 powerbook running osX 10.2.6. Installation of wd seems to go okay, but I see no additional interfaces via the network prefpane or when running ifconfig. The troubleshooting script (see below) indicates that ioreg sees this card as "pccard-no-cis", which doesn't sound so good... I have a sneaking suspicion that "no-cis" is trying to signify "no Card Identification String". Can anyone offer any advice? Anyone got this particular card working with WD? Okay, how does one configure an ABS extreme base station when one (like me) doesn't have a card that the software recognizes as an AirPort card? With my original ABS I was able to use an Ethernet connection to the ABS to configure the durned thing. I see a Buffalo card in my future even though I didn't want to put more money into my WallStreet PowerBook. Thanks for ideas, send direct to me as I digest this list. The only USB device I know of that can be easily used with an external antenna is the Orinoco USB adapter (it contains an Orinoco PCMCIA card inside, so all you have to do is drill a hole in the end of the enclosure to provide access to the card's antenna jack). Unfortunately, I don't know of any Mac drivers for this device--it uses a different USB controller than anyone else does. IOXperts looked into doing a driver for it, but so far has been unable to obtain the necessary technical information from Agere. Rob might be able to answer the question about whether there are USB drivers for other devices that can support MacStumbler (KisMac loads its own driver, so it's pretty hardware-specific). I have the driver working fine in my Wallstreet with an Orinoco Gold card. I do have one problem, though. I have it set up to use 128-bit WEP with a hex key in key slot 1 (default). However, whenever I reboot the machine (thankfully not too often), the WEP setting reverts to Airport 40-bit. What's more, it isn't so good at remembering the WEP key, either. When I set it back to 'hex key' and select slot 1, it remembers the first key I ever entered there, rather than the last key I put there. Any help appreciated, Ian |

I am trying to get a Seimens Speedstream, Model SS1021 to work on a Wall Street Powerbook. Previously I had an Orinoco Gold working under this driver and when it died I switched to a Cisco Aeronet Card which has it's own driver in OSX. I have Unistalled and re-installed the driver and when I go to Network Preferences, the en(1) connection is grayed out when showing the network port configurations. It is also worth noting that I never see a light in this card when it is inserted (it has Power and ACT lights). The Card info on the PC Card menu in OSX shows 'Texas InstrumentS' on the first line, and 'ACX100 CaraBus Model Board' on the second line, both of which are grayed out. 'Eject Card' is on the third line and it is an active selection. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Hi, I have an orinoco gold WIFI card on a titanium g4 powerbook 876mhz OS X 10.2.3. Graphite base station without WEP encryption connected to a Cisco DSL router that is hooked up to ethernet. I'm using the wirelessdriver beta 5.1. I installed the driver, and "Ethernet Adaptor (en1)" wasn't showing up in the Network preference pane, so I reinstalled it a few times. Finally it took. I configure it to connect using DHCP (I have the DNS Servers listed), then connect with the driver preference pane. It shows a signal. However, the IP address is being "self-assigned" (169.254.xxx.xxx if that helps) and won't connect. I have another computer with airport card connected, and a third computer that uses the OS 8.6 driver successfully. The card works fine on os 9.2.2 by the way. I can't send the troubleshooting script info, but it looks cursorily fine. Thanks for the help. |

When I run SigMeter it shows a little chart on my menubar to indicate signal strength. BTW, someone posted a version of SigMeter several months ago that actually showed signal strength using a number, instead of a little horizontal indicator. I lost my copy, is there a way to download a copy that shows the signal strength number? Thanks very much. -Steve |

How to tell the version: Find /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext and get info on it from the Finder WEP support: I've got it working, but I haven't had the chance to clean the code up to a point where I can release it. I'm hoping to get that out today/tomorrow. WPA support: WPA will be required for future WiFi certification. I haven't seen the details on how to handle the key exchange yet. Since the WEP code does all of the encryption in software, this shouldn't be that hard to implement. Does anyone have a copy of the spec? -Rob On Thursday, July 10, 2003, at 18:39, Rick Faaberg wrote: > How can I tell what version driver I have installed? > > Any progress on WEP support for Linksys WPC-11? > > What about WPA support? I'm running os x 10.2.6 now, the latest update i think. In any case I was able to tar and copy the IOPCCardFamily extension files off a friend computer. Now it's kext ver 1.3.2 which I'm assuming is the latest and greatest =) So am i up the creek with this card then? I didn't suspect that there were so many flavors of Orinoco Silver out there. Just constructed a "cantenna" from bought parts. WOW-good range on my Orinoco Gold card with a PB WS G3. Now as soon as the heat index is below 120 outside, I will go on the back porch and internet under the stars. And no, I didn't use a Pringles can... Best to all, Byron |

First off, what version of OS X did you have installed? With every version I've played with, except the really old ones, you can simply try reinstalling OS X over top of itself. There is an option that for doing a clean install that allows you to move existing bits of the OS out of the way while leaving third party stuff installed where it was. This can often correct other problems related to upgrades that didn't quite get things right as well. The other, more complex option, is to replace the IOPCCardFamily kext on it's own. If you tell me what version of the OS, I might be able to help you out. Your system sounds like it was likely working properly to begin with. No work or testing has been done with the 802.11a/b cards and the information I have would tend to indicate that the driver will need to be changed to handle these as they communicate to the system very differently. -Rob On Friday, July 4, 2003, at 00:20, b p wrote: > Hi all, > > I've royally screwed up while trying to get this > driver to work with my wireless card. > > I've gone and installed the "IOPCCardFamily v.1.1.0 > installer" without reading the doc closely enough > first.
