Hi I have already bought two different wireless pc cards (Belkin F5D6020 ver.2 and SMC 2635W) none of them have a Prism chip, therefore your driver will not support them, anyhow i could not find any other prism mounted card in any shop around me, and i am stuck now with the SMC ADMtek chip....i need to make it work on my powerbook G3. could you please tell me how i could make it work, if there is another driver that could work jointly with this one, or if it would be possible to convert a linux driver so it could work in OS X? thank you waiting for your reply |

I have been using an older Lucent Orinoco Silver card with my G-4 Powerbook and Os 10.2.6 with no problems. The card was physically damaged and although it still works, I ordered a new card which I thought would be comparable to my old card, a Proxim Orinoco 802.11 a/b Silver Card. I have attempted to get the new card working, but when inserted, the Ethernet Adapter (en2) is not recognized nor visible in Network Preferences , nor is the wireless network visible in the Wireless Config Preference Panel. Is this card compatible? If so, shouldn't it work with the currently installed driver? Or is there something else I should be doing to get it working? I have run the trouble shooting script with both cards installed and they are set forth below. the" wireless card info"on the new card references "Atheros Communications" . I hesitate to unistall the driver and reinstall for fear that I will end up with neither working. Any advice for me out there. Thanks for you help. Old Card that works properly script: aLast login: Thu Dec 11 08:17:35 on console /Users/terry/Desktop/Troubleshooting\ Info.command; exit Welcome to Darwin! I download the driver for Mac OSX 10.2 It installed fine. I am using and EnGenius( NL-2511 CD Plus) PC card in the PCMCIA slot on my Titanium Powerbook. The icon for the card appears but when I follow your instructions the driver icon doen not appear in the System Preferences pane and therefore cannot complete the configuration. Any ideas?? I notice that this card does not appear on your list of supported cards however your site appears as a link from the vendor (Surf and SIp) |

Hi, Tried to get the driver to work on a pismo, OS X 10.3 and a netgrear MA401 card. No luck, but I can get the IOXperts driver to work (removed each one before experimenting). Ideas? Ran troubleshooting, indicates that card is not present, etc. shelley |

I sometimes see a signal strength value in cases where I have misentered the network name I am trying to connect to. I do not understand this, because if I enter the name of a network that does not exist, the signal strength should indicate the minimal (no signal) value. Isn't the signal strength supposed to be for the network I am connected to? If not, how do I know what network is being metered when I am in the presence of mulitple networks? thanks in advance. _________________________________________________________________ Our best dial-up offer is back. After I use my wireless card with the sourceforge wireless driver and I am finished using the Internet and then I choose "Power Off Card" from the card menu at the upper right, I find that my card repowers up automatically, causing me to crash due to the wireless driver bug regarding removal and reinsertion of cards. Any idea why? Thanks in advance _________________________________________________________________ Dont worry if your Inbox will max out while you are enjoying the holidays. For those who are interested and development-inclined... I've posted the bulk of the new source base on my iDisk. This isn't a full user-level release yet as a couple components still need to be finished. For those who are looking for something new to tinker with and fixes for many of the problems and features that weren't addressed by earlier versions, this would be a good place for you to start. What is included: interface-independent PRISM device control driver partially completed PCCard interface driver What is NOT yet included: user-level apps userClient interface for applications Framework for application development The remaining components are still being rewritten and will be added soon. I'll also be adding this new code to the main project CVS tree in the coming week as I get a chance. I don't have any objections if someone with more time on their hands than I do right now wants to submit some code to fill in the blanks and will graciously accept any additions or bug fixes, giving credit where credit is due. ...due to iDisk bandwidth, it may still be several hours before the archive is completely uploaded. I have been using a Lucent Orinoco Silver card for some time with no problems and currently with OS 10.2.6 in my 400mz TiBook. Yesterday, the card got smashed and bent in my brief case as it was sticking out of the side of the computer, but still works amazingly. So I just ordered a new Proxim Orinoco Silver 802.1A/B Combo Card to replace it. Will the new card work without any reconfiguration of the driver or other settings? Also, I have been tempted to upgrade to Panther, but am concerned about potential incompatibility? Thanks to anyone who can help me. Terry |

I am wondering, does anyone have support digests before #474 and/or devel digests before #64 that you could share with me, as I just recently subscribed to these lists? I have been noticing that the archives of the list at sourceforge have been dropping a few messages, so the archives are not complete. Thanks for your help. I tried that, but unfortunately the "Orinoco Wireless Card" under "Network" configures as 169.254.76.73 (Self-assigned). I think when it configures correctly, I will have a class A network address such as 10.0.1.3 (which is how the Proxim driver configures under OS 9). I don't know if this is part of the problem, but I'm not exactly sure what option to enter the WEP encryption key under. I know that the key is the last four digits of the network name, which is "4d0f4", which I'm assuming is a hex number, but it's not clear to me whether I am supposed to enter it under "Airport Password 40bit", "with hex key", or "convert text to hex key". I know that the Silver card uses 64 bit WEP encryption, so I assume "Airport Password 128bit" is not what I want. Also I have read that sometimes the hex key will not work unless it's prefixed with a "0x" or "$". Thanks again, Andy |

Back in October I requested help getting an ORiNOCO Silver card working with a Wallstreet PowerBook. I haven't been able to get it working yet. One person suggested I download the ORiNOCO drivers from the Proxim site, which I did, and they work fine, but only under OS 9, and I would like to use the WirelessDriver on OS X. Here are more details: Wallstreet PowerBook G3 Mac OS X 10.2.8 ORiNOCO Silver wireless card ORiNOCO RG-1100 base station w/ WEP encryption on The wirelessdriver recognizes the network name correctly, but as far as I can tell, does not talk to the base station. The result of the troubleshooting script is attached (the link to it was undefined when I posted in October). Many thanks, Andy |

Thanks a lot for your help. In fact, I had installed it once correctly, and the card showed up nicely and everything. It even displayed the signal strength of the network, but the DHCP thing didn't work, or it didn't connect at all. Anyway, I ploughed through all the documentation, and found two suggestions which I tried: - Install twice, and install the packages separately as described on musox's homepage. - Don't leave the DHCP Client ID field in System Preferences empty. And it worked. So anyone reading this having similar problems should try these steps. Also, anyone reading these connected to the project: From the number of times I read about similar problems on the support list, it would be nice for new users if this could be in the official FAQ. Anyhow, thanks a lot for the driver, which is now working perfectly. Are you sure the driver is installed and working properly? Your card should get the 10.0.2.2 number if you are using Airport Base Station or depending on your router 169.x.x.x range. If you have installed the Wirelessdriver.kext properly try to delete the Extensions.mkext and Extensions.kextcache files in the /System/Library/ folder and restart the computer. If it still doesn't work try assigning a DHCP number manually. That worked for me when I had problems with the driver not assigning the proper IP address. //Rob On tisdag, nov 25, 2003, at 17:36 Europe/Stockholm, Thomas Albrecht wrote: > Hi, > > I've seen the posts with the problem obtaining a new IP address via > DHCP. Hey all, Thanks for the awesome work on this driver! Just wanted to confirm my card works with your driver: YDI Sapphire http://www.ydi.com/products/sapphire-card.php This is an Agere Orinoco-based card, reported as "Wireless PC Card Model 0104" 128/104-bit WEP works! (haven't tested 64/40-bit yet) Again, thanks. -Josh ------------------- Josh Malone Systems Administrator Category 4 Design 434-296-9963 x 109 http://www.category4.com/ |

I removed my card and then put my computer to sleep. When I woke it up it Kernal panicked (showing the message to restart in several languages). Has anyone had this bug effect them in this manner? I thought I heard a Kernal panic can occur when reinserting a card after removal, but that was not what I did, but I am not sure of the exact circumstances that trigger the bug (and how reproducible - occassional or every time) and would like more information on the bug and whether it will be fixed in the next version. I was using Wireless Driver on my Pismo with a Wavlan Silver Turbo PCMCIA card under Jaguar with not much trouble, the known issues seemed only you apply. Since upgrading to Panther I have not been able to get the connection to take for one reason: The DHCP will not renew, it just stays at the same IP number no matter if I restart, reset the modem, reset the card, etc. the Wireless Driver shows a signal, I can "apply" the changes in the network, but the IP will not take. I had this issue under Jaguar sometimes, but it always seemed to renew if I reset the wireless router. Any thoughts? Henry |

I am wondering, does anyone have digests before #474 that you could share with me, as I just recently subscribed? I have been noticing that the archives of the list at sourceforge have been dropping some messages lately, so the archives are not complete.
