Is there software for Mac OS 9.2.2 to use the driver with a Linksys card? |

Our G3 PowerBook (bronze keyboard) Lombard that we use as a guest workstation has begun to require two boots before it connects to our Snow Airport hosted network. The signal strength is high, but it refuses connect - no address via DHCP, and even if we hard-code in correct network info and give it an unused IP number, it still will get nowhere. Logging out does nothing to help. However, rebooting will always get it to immediately connect. Obviously the 2 boots is a functioning workaround, but does anyone have a suggestion on how to get it to work correctly? |

But, completely fed up with this whole issue, early this week I ordered a Buffalo AirStation G54 pc card. Supposedly it's just for Windows, but five minutes after the WS2 detected its presence, the laptop was finally online again via our AEBS wireless LAN, with my having added no drivers at all. X28 thinks it's an Airport card. (Airport 3.1.1 is installed.) And, so far, while iStumbler 0.8.3 always crashes on startup and AP Grapher doesn't work quite right, both MacStumbler and KisMAC (no driver patching here) work well with the reasonably-priced Buffalo. Relief at last. Bob F |

Errata on: Buffalo card and 802.11a Vincent Cayenne asked about the ability of the Buffalo WLI-CB-G54A card to function in an 802.11a environment. To avoid any conflict on this matter, my reply to Vincent is below. les --------- Vincent I may have over-spoke the 'stated boundaries' of the Buffalo card .. but I have used it, successfully, in an 802.11a environment: at least that was as I was told the environment to be. I've not specifically taken it to task, knowing the environment was solely 802.11a, to prove this beyond doubt. As the statement on the card and as well the Buffalo stats on their web site says, the card is functional across the 802.11b-g range. There are so few cards that will work - with regular expectation - on the Lombard Bronze KEY Powerbook, running Jaguar or Panther, that I've become inured to the need for discreet 802.11a functionality. For my personal network system - SoHo - is based upon a D-Link DI-624 router that is 802.11g and Howie's query was to the 614+ which is 802.11b. Both accessible, without problem, by the Buffalo WLI-CB-G54A card. Therefore my apologies for erring on this side of exuberance. A rephrase of my pronouncement should be, "This card 'sees' all ranges of WiFi, b-g." I believe that would be provable complete. Thank you for pointing out the error in the former declaration. les --------------------------------------------- NET500.CG J. Leslie Booth Owner/CiAS PO Box 2765 W. When you share a printer in MacOS X, it uses CUPS which works fine with wirelessdriver. |

Howie, et. al., Go order online or pick-up at a local Best Buy (best price and easiest location to deal with - tried all the rest!) a Buffalo Air Station Card WLI-CB-G54A. This card 'sees' all ranges of WiFi, a-g. I've been down the same road you're on .. with a G3 400MHz Lombard Bronze Key; OSX 10.2 thru 10.3 Panther. And this IS the solution. Use the AirPort software that is native to the OSX and your up and running from then on. Enjoy the freedom !! les --------------------------------------------- NET500.CG J. I have a Bronze Keyboard G3 Laptop running OS 10.2.6. I am attempting to connect to my D-Link DI-614+ using a Orinoco Silver PCMCIA card. I am using the version 1.0.0b5 wireless driver. I see the card in the Network Control Pane1 (listed as en1). When I open the Wireless Config Control Panel and type the name of my wireless network, I can not connect. The card will occasionally pick up the signal of another wireless network in my neighborhood, so it looks like it is working. Short of formatting the drive and installing OS 10.1.5, I don't know what else to try. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please email them to me at how...@sp... All input is greatly appreciated. In the FAQ for WirelessDriver, it says: "The driver supports AppleTalk over IP but will not yet allow printing to AppleTalk printers. We are working to fix this. To connect to other macs type: afp://ip-address in the connect to server dialog (e.g. afp://10.0.1.3)" Let me get this straight - It will still allow me to connect to another computer over the wireless network with Cmd-K in OS X and access shared files but just not let me use a printer connected to the network |

Hello; I'm having problems getting my Powerbook G3 to recognize either of two newly bought proxim Orinoco Silver 802.11b cards in my machine. I tried running the installler for the wireless driver, and it dumped the driver, the preference pane, and the Signal Finder software all at the root level of my hard drive (which I'm now having trouble getting rid of) and I had to run the three individual installers in order to get the preference pane into the system library. The wireless config app, as well as the system preference wireless config both come up all grayed out. The network preferences has no mention of EN1 anywhere I can find. I doubt all their low signal strength figures though. Nowadays I use "AP Grapher" at home to test signal/noise et al. Another idea: try ClassicStumbler (in OS9, obviously) to compare figures. I use v1.5.2 as 1.6 causes problems here. Bob F |

Anyone know how to get a Buffalo 54Mbps card to work on an Al PB G4 (800) in the PC port? I have extreme built in but I am thinking I could get better range with the card and an external antenne. Thanks, Byron |

To whom it may concern: Last week, after finally getting Jaguar to install in my Wallstreet, I discovered that the absence of APE Manager (from Unsanity.com) was the only factor preventing a successful installation of the wirelessdriver software for my old WaveLAN Gold card. It seems that the "Other" section of System Preferences requires APE Manager in order to install anything else there. So if someone can't see any "WirelessConfig" item there after a restart, or find the "Ethernet Adaptor (en1)" item in the Network prefs pane after the restart, IMHO that's probably why. Since the installation, the card and the wirelessdriver software have performed flawlessly (uh oh, maybe I shouldn't be saying that). Anyhow, I hope this helps someone. Bob F |

Ladies and Gentlemen: I could use some help getting the driver for the Broadband Xpress PCMCIA LAN CARD IEEE 802.11b to work. I am on a PowerBook G4 with MAC OS 10.2.8 installed. The program installed successfully. When I click on WirelessConfig in the System Preferences panel the Network Configuration comes up but is grayed out and data cannot be entered. How do I activate the Network Configuration panel? I'm running the wireless driver on my powerbook wallstreet running OS x 10.28. Everything seems fine and I've just returned from MacWorld where I got the idea that I should check out macstumbler or kismac to see what I've been missing. Macstumbler doesn't seem to recognize my card, a farallon skyline, and kismac does but tells me the driver has a flaw that it has to patch if I want to run that application. I don't think I need to mess with things that badly but would like to hear what others are doing with a similar setup. This driver works great with my original basestation/IPNetRouter system at home. I opted not to take it to MacWorld thinking I could get by with my trusty newton as I had last year. No such luck as they seemed to be running 802.11g+b and the driver that has been made for the newton isn't able to handle that. Maybe next year... Thanks, Dale |

I Hope you can help. I have two PCMCIA Cards The Belkin which I was told is not compatible and an Orinoco Model 8461-05 (802.11a/b combo) Silver card which I thought according to site reviews would work on my system. Problem - I do not get a recognition on a (EN-1) or anything providing notice either card is seen. The Orinoco card Crashes the whole system and will not allow OSX to boot. In addition I have tried to install the PCCard driver pkg on the apple website thinking it would help. I have since lost the ability to see the PCMCIA cards on the desktop and cannot eject (even manually) I am connected to a Belkin Wireless DSL Gateway Router FSD6230-3 if that helps. (no encryption settings) The troubleshoot script is below which highlights my other system detail. Please - anything you suggest would be greatly appreciated. I am in over my head here. I'm not good at understanding the Unix codes. I am using a PowerBook G3 (Wallstreet) with a Proxima/Farallon card. It has been exhibiting bizarre behavior recently, and I would appreciate any advice you could offer. Sometimes, the card works flawlessly. Sometimes, it doesn't work at all. Sometimes, it works for a while, then stops working until I restart. Sometimes I can get it to start working again by putting the machine to sleep, then removing and reinserting the card. I could go on. . . . Below are the results of the troubleshooting script run at four different times. The first time was when the card was working after I inserted it into the machine while it was asleep. The second time, the card was working, and then stopped, so I ran the script. The third time, the diode on the card didn't light up during startup, and the card didn't work until a later restart. The fourth time, I inserted the card while the machine was awake, and it didn't work. Thank you for any help you can offer.
