Hi all, some time ago I found tsemgr. I found it very useful and I started to like this program. Well, members of this list probably knows how great this program is. But I've read that development of this software was stopped. So what can I do about it? I've got working T610 cell phone, got little bit of free time and I've got some will to continue with development. As tsemgr is opensource, I've created my own repository and started some improvements to show you that I'm really interested in future of tsemgr. You can see my current development version using ViewGit http://atrey.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~miska/git/ or get whole source tree via git clone http://atrey.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~miska/git/tsemgr.git My current changes - I've wrote standalone console application for remote control of PC so I can run it without GUI and I've adjusted GUI little bit to reflect these changes. It's working but it still needs a lot of cleanups. Main reason for this mail is to contact original author and ask him if I can continue with development of tsemgr officially. -- Michal Hrusecky <Mic...@se...> |

Thanks greatly to Per Thomas Jahr for posting that the pl2303 driver works with the DCU-10 cable -- I was able to make it work with my DCU-11 cable which I'm using to sync my T637. Unfortunately I'm getting a very bad connection that drops out anytime I start to do a sync: ... Made some progress... Made some progress... Made some progress... Made some progress... Made some progress... Comm-error waiting for OK after disconnect maybe just ignore this? Link broken! Error while doing OBEX_HandleInput() Comm-error waiting for OK after disconnect maybe just ignore this? And then I have no backup data saved (and that's doing a backup of my phonebook)... Any ideas? -- Phil Dibowitz ph...@ip... Hi list! tsemgr development has been stoped due to the fact that my SonyEricsson mobile phone broke and I bought a new one which is a Nokia Model. I really would like to release the latest code of tsemgr. I rewrote tsemgr completely seperating the GUI from the core functionality to even provide a command line version of tsemgr. The GUI part was using GTK+ 2.0 and it was really promising (in my opinion). But because not only my mobile broke - my harddrive with all the code died as well :(. And guess what... I don't have any backups at all. If anybody wants to do further development of tsemgr contact me. Best regards, Sebastian |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hi there guys!
This software is really great :) and hope someone got a clue for my
problem..
i just installed tsemgr-0.08 to make it work with my nokia 6600, but
i've got problems doing about anything :(
i'll show you the whole thing from the start:
[root@marvin root]# hcitool scan

ok, i've got a phone somewhere :)
[root@marvin root]# sdptool browse 00:0E:6D:0A:17:6F

now, if i upload a file on my phone, everything is ok.. but
i was already uploading/downloading with gnome-obex-send and
gnome-obex-server, so don't really need this feature..
i associate my pc as a device on my phone, under Connectivity ->
Bluetooth. asks my pin, gets association.
now, my problems are:
PHONEBOOK (BACKUP with BLUETOOTH):
My phone asks me if i want to accept a message from my pc, i say yes,
but i got:
GET failed 0x43!
from tsemgr output.
I try the same with serial cable, my phone asks me to accept connection
from my pc, i see a bluetooth connection on my phone.
the first time i try i see my bluetooth connection blow away, and i got
this as output from tsemgr
Error writing to port: Input/output error
Comm-error sending ATZ
Unable to send break!
the second time i try is the same, but without outputs and a crash :(
(and still no bluetooth connection after a while)
LOAD PHONEBOOK
I see a bluetooth connection on my phone, tsemgr says "Loading
phonebook, entry #0) then no more connections on my phone and.. tsemgr
stops working :(
Plus, if i try to use "Remote" i got a "you are connected" message, but
with no bt connection on my phone and no "Linux Box" anywhere on my
phone :(
it's the same for each and every function (send sms, read sms..) just
some bluetooth connections and nothing else.. (note: it happens both if
i associate and if i don't associate my pc from the phone menu)
what do you think this could be?
thanks very much guys!
cheers, gat.
p.s. if you want i could also send the hcidump output.. it seemed too
long to me to be attached here :)

Hello to all of you.
Just a short question. I'm looking into buying myself a new mobile, and
would like it to be a smartphone.
Of paramount importance to me is its ability to interact with my Linux
laptop (Windows is simply not an option here ;-) ).
I was considering the likes of Nokia 7650 or 9210 (aka Communicator), or
SonyEricsson P800 / P900.
Can any of you share their experiences with any of those (or any similar
model from any provider -- available on the european market, if
possible) as related to Linux (through gnokii, tsemgr or others).
If some (limited) amount of hacking is involved, that's ok with me.
Thanks a lot for any feedback.
Cheers. Bye.
Ph. A.

Hi all! I've just released tsemgr-0.08 This is the last (planned) release of tsemgr based on the current code. I'm working on a complete rewrite using GTK+ 2.2 though. Changes since last release are GNU Autotools support for ease of installation, UTF-8 support for phonebook stuff and some major bugfixes. If anyone is interested in maintaining the current code please let me know. Regards, Sebastian |

Well, I wouldn't mind helping at least... I don't have access to a lot of phones to help in reproducing problems though.... I will admit to having worked in software QA in the past.. There were a few other things that I changed. I will send you an actual patch in the next few days. I'm happy to hear that you are working on a newer version. You have done a great job so far. I needed to copy phonebook entries from one phone to another, and your program worked better out of the box than any of the others that I have tried so far... I will happily give your new version a spin whenever you finish it. Something that I would be really interested in is getting tsemgr to run on my Linux PDA (HP iPAQ running Familiar Linux) - as far as I know there is no existing software for Familiar or Zaurus that would let you manage phonebook and SMS, and tx/rx files for your phone. This would require making font and layout changes for the small screen, as well as trying not to requre very many obsure and large libraries (wouldn't worry about ezV24, thats nice and small).... maybe hacking away at your old version would give me an excuse to learn some GTK stuff... heh. -- Michael Furman, KD6OCS re...@oc... 408-480-5865 Sebastian Sareyko (s.s...@ci...) recently said: > > First of all thank you for your extensive debugging and sorry for the > long time it took me to reply (my internet connection was gone for about > a month). > > I'll check this, fix it and add you to the list of contributers. > But you should be aware of the fact that I've stopped development on the > current codebase of tsemgr. > I'm currently working on a complete rewrite of tsemgr which will use > GTK+-2.2. > Maybe you're interested in maintaining the "old" tsemgr code? > > > Regards, > Sebastian > > PS: Thank you again for your help. excuse me for hacking away at your code, but I found it most annoying that tsemgr 0.07 and CVS hung in the following condition: Step 1: load phone book from SE T610 over bluetooth Step 2: edit an entry Step 3: save entry Step 4: edit another entry <program hangs> initial inspection was with GDB. the above steps were performed in between run and sending SIGINT (^C) and interrupting it: crackrock tsemgr-0.07 # gdb tsemgr GNU gdb 5.3 Copyright 2002 Free Software Foundation, Inc. Other than this being a depreciated GTK call, I can't find anyone ever having this particular problem. Trudging along further, I decided to run tsemgr, albeit very sloooowwwlllyyyy under valgrind. Valgrind finds all sorts of nifty problems...... but aside from this, it prints an interesting message relating to editPBentry after clicking save on the first edit dialog (step 3 above): ==1176== Invalid free() / delete / delete[] ==1176== at 0x4015E64C: free (in /usr/lib/valgrind/valgrind.so) ==1176== by 0x403BE262: g_free (in /usr/lib/libglib-1.2.so.0.0.10) ==1176== by 0x40285E62: gtk_entry_finalize (in /usr/lib/libgtk-1.2.so.0.9.1) ==1176== by 0x402D193B: gtk_object_unref (in /usr/lib/libgtk-1.2.so.0.9.1) ==1176== Address 0x41CB06A8 is 0 bytes inside a block of size 8 free'd ==1176== at 0x4015E64C: free (in /usr/lib/valgrind/valgrind.so) ==1176== by 0x403BE262: g_free (in /usr/lib/libglib-1.2.so.0.0.10) ==1176== by 0x805703B: editPBentry (in /root/src/tsemgr-0.07/tsemgr) ==1176== by 0x402BA105: gtk_marshal_NONE__NONE (in /usr/lib/libgtk-1.2.so.0.9.1) This seems bad. Upon looking at the code in editPBentry, we free name and number which are return results from gtk_entry_get_text. The documentation I found said that under no condition were you to attempt to free the pointers returned from gtk_entry_get_text..... sure enough at line 1113 and 1114 of callbacks.c i see the following: g_free (number); g_free (name); Here ends my understanding of what is going on. all that I know is that commenting out these free calls enables me to edit multiple entries in a row without the apparent malloc hang... maybe we're freeing memory that we shouldn't, as the gtk manual suggests? Hi Peter! > Hi! I am using tsemgr-0.07 with a sony ericsson T610 and file uploading > works great! But whenever i try to download the phonebook or SMS the > program hangs. Has anyone had any success using these features with a T610? Normally this should work with the T610. At least someone told me it works. Did you enter the device in the config dialog? For Bluetooth this would be something like /dev/rfcomm0 or /dev/rfcomm1, for IrDA /dev/ircomm0 and for serial cable /dev/ttyS0. Check this! If you're using Bluetooth you've to bind a so called channel to the device file first. Look At the mailinglist archives to find out how to do that. I described it there in some early messages. > (ps. The download feature would be really cool!) Many people are requesting this, but I would like to get all the other things work properly first. Anyway: Sooner or later I'll add this feature ;) Regards, Sebastian |

Hi! I am using tsemgr-0.07 with a sony ericsson T610 and file uploading works great! But whenever i try to download the phonebook or SMS the program hangs. Has anyone had any success using these features with a T610? Regards Peter (ps. The download feature would be really cool!) |

Hi again Clinton! > An offer: > I see that tsemgr hasn't been auto*'d yet, I've got (too much) > experience with automake, autoconf and libtool and would be more than > happy to provide patches. I'm at home again now for a few days. So I had time to check your configure.ac and Makefile.am. I tweaked them a bit, restructured the directory layout of tsemgr and changed some bits of the tsemgr sourcecode to work with the auto* generated config.h file. And what sould I say? It just works great!! Thank you very much for the GNU Auto* stuff Clinton! Regards, Sebastian PS: The Auto*'d version of tsemgr is in CVS now (may take some days until it's on anonymous CVS though). A new release of GNU Auto*'d tsemgr will follow soon. |

An Introduction: Hello all, I've just purchased one of these phones and am looking into software to back it up and manage it with a real keyboard, I looked at leif but tsemgr seems to be under more active development...we'll see :) An offer: I see that tsemgr hasn't been auto*'d yet, I've got (too much) experience with automake, autoconf and libtool and would be more than happy to provide patches. cheers, -- Clinton Roy Elvin Software Engineer - elvin.dstc.edu.au Humbug Vice president - www.humbug.org.au |

Hi, I just managed to connect T300 by using the USB cable DCU-10 (original Sony cable). I was able to use tsemgr to download SMS's, send SMS and download the addressbook. I found information about how to use the USB cable when browsing the list archives of the Linux P800 project: http://mobile.linux.pt/digest/ezmlm.cgi?mss:129:200303:bdojiajncaneagbppjgp Here is what I did: 1. You need to recompile the kernel or create modules so that you have included the usb-serial and the Profilic PL2303 usb-serial driver. Also I think that you need a new kernel (I use 2.6.0-test2). 2. After the new kernel (or modules) is in place, connect the usb cable to your usb port. Then use dmesg to see that the device is detected and that the correct driver is associated (PL-2303). It also says what device it uses (f.ex. ttyUSB0). 3. Start tsemgr, go to config and enter the device to use (f.ex. /dev/ttyUSB0). You're ready! There is also another USB cable where you can charge the batteries of the phone at the same time: http://alor.antifork.org/hardware-linux/sonyericsson-T68i/ I hope someone else finds this information useful. -- Per Thomas Jahr |

Check out the latest CVS version of tsemgr. Tomasz Kojm just contributed a patch to check this because he had the same problem. Instructions how to get it can be found there: http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=74032 But be aware that anonymous CVS at sourceforge.net lags, so maybe you've to wait one or two days until it's finally there. > > PS: I hope anything else works for you. > > Yes. :-) :-) Nice to know! Because I'm on "vacation" the next three weeks and I'm a bit lazy at the moment. But I'll let you know when the "download from phone" interface is in CVS. Regards, Sebastian |

Hi Ralf! > I have successfully compiled tsemgr including Bluetooth-support. > So far no problems. Simple setup. > > Now, when configuring tsemgr I am asked for the device, address and > port. > I assume device is just a name? Hmm... No. Device is the device where your phone is connected. For serial cable it's usually /dev/ttySx (where x is 1, 2 or 3...) For Irda it's /dev/ircommx (same as above with the x) And for Bluetooth you'll have to use /dev/rfcommx Note: For Bluetooth you'll need to setup rfcomm before: Quote from http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=754981&group_id=74032&atid=539735: "Use the following commands to bind your phone to /dev/rfcomm0: First you need to know the "serial port bt channel", to get this Type: "sdptool browse 00:0A:D9:3B:01:7E" Now you'll get a list of channels and what they do. Search for "Service Name: Serial Port 1" or something similar. Look for "Channel/Port:" in this section. Now do: "rfcomm bind 0 00:0A:D9:3B:01:7E <enter the channel/port # here>" Now /dev/rfcomm0 should act like a normal serial device. Enter this (/dev/rfcomm0) at the "Device:" field in tsemgr. Last you need to know the "OBEX PUSH Channel". To get it do "sdptool browse 00:0A:D9:3B:01:7E" again and watch out for the "Service Name: OBEX Object Push" section. Enter the "Channel/Port" in the field labeled "obex push port:" in tsemgr. (Usually this should be 10) Now hit the save button to save your settings. Note: You need to do the "rfcomm bind 0 00:0A:D9:3B:01:7E <enter the channel/port # here>" thing everytime you reboot your system." You'll have to change the Bluetooth address to your phone's one of course. > Address will be the bluetooth address like 00:0A:D9:8B:2F:C7 > What is the port? See above. > If I browse my phone using sdptool I only see channels and RecHandles. > Whatever I have tried to enter here has not worked so far. > > Anybody out there with a working configuration for T610. The Bluetooth address and Obex push port is quite confusing and one of the next versions of tsemgr will not need to have this information anymore. > By the way, I would love file downloading using tsemgr. Coming soon ;) The functions for downloading files are already implemented (Backup phonebook uses them). I only need to add the interface for it. Regards, Sebastian |

Hi, I have successfully compiled tsemgr including Bluetooth-support. So far no problems. Simple setup. Now, when configuring tsemgr I am asked for the device, address and port. I assume device is just a name? Address will be the bluetooth address like 00:0A:D9:8B:2F:C7 What is the port? If I browse my phone using sdptool I only see channels and RecHandles. Whatever I have tried to enter here has not worked so far. Anybody out there with a working configuration for T610. By the way, I would love file downloading using tsemgr. And what about checking if the '+' has been already given at the beginning of the phone number? How do you input the phone number in international format? (or other format) > I'm not quite sure why you get ++. > Maybe your phone screwed something up? > Or maybe you added the +'s manually to your numbers on your phone? Yes I added, but just one! Because if you go abroad then you have to add = this +36 to the phone numbers to be able to dial. If I leave the '+' sign then it can't dial anything (if the country code = is given eg. 36301234567) So here we have a phone format like this: 06-area code - phone number (06 means you dial a phone number in another area code than yours) So I can dial a phone number in my area (30) using the followings: 1234567 (just the phone number) 06 30 1234567 (06 some code, 30 -> area code, rest phone number) or +36 30 1234567 (+36 country code, 30 area code, rest phone number) So I have to store phone numbers with +36 if I want to dial any phone numbers from abroad. > > 2. Hi Gabor! > I use my T610 with Bluetooth over RFCOMM and most > if the functin works. There are two strange thing: > > 1. When The phone book is loaded numbers beginning > with +36xxxxx (Hungary's country code) they become ++36xxxxxx > When I send SMS with this kind of phone number the phone > display a "+??36xxxxx" as a phone number therefore it can't > send any SMS Hmm... strange. Normally the numbers are stored without the + on the phone (like this 361234567). When we load the phonenumbers from the phone we get lines like this one: 01, 491234567, 145, "Tim Miller /H" The 01 is the index number (where the number is stored on the phone). Then comes the number. And after that we get a number describing in which format the phonenumber is. 145 stands for international format. Thus we have to add the + ourself if a phonenumber has format 145. I'm not quite sure why you get ++. Maybe your phone screwed something up? Or maybe you added the +'s manually to your numbers on your phone? > 2. The "store on phone" option at SMS sending causes that the > SMS will be stored in "SIM folder" not in outgoing folder Some T610 user reported this before. I just had a quick look at it and SIM is the default setting for storing SMS' according to the reference. Just tried to change it to ME (Phone memory). All seems to work all right. But the message gets not stored on the phone at all. At least with my T68i. I'll do some more testing on this. If I find a solution I'll let you know. Hi! I use my T610 with Bluetooth over RFCOMM and most if the functin works. There are two strange thing: 1. When The phone book is loaded numbers beginning with +36xxxxx (Hungary's country code) they become ++36xxxxxx When I send SMS with this kind of phone number the phone display a "+??36xxxxx" as a phone number therefore it can't send any SMS 2. The "store on phone" option at SMS sending causes that the SMS will be stored in "SIM folder" not in outgoing folder Gabor |
