Ross, =20 We currently do such checks as follows throughout the framework: - if the context can work with multiple beans of a type, detect by bean = type - if the context expects a single bean of that type, detect by bean name =20 Detecting by name allows to define other beans of the same type, which = will be ignored by the context. For example, the context-detected = "applicationEventMulticaster" could delegate to backend = ApplicationEventMulticasters, or some components could access their own = ApplicationEventMulticaster beans without the context being involved. =20 Therefore I'd like to keep it by name, as long as the context isn't = supposed to work with multiple ApplicationEventMulticasters. =20 Juergen =20 ________________________________ Von: spr...@li... im Auftrag = von Mason, Ross Gesendet: Sa 03.07.2004 08:36 An: spr...@li... Betreff: [Springframework-developer] ApplicationEventMulticaster Hi Juergen, =20 Good work on the new event multicaster enhancements!=20 I noticed that you look in the container for a bean called = 'applicationEventMulticaster' to resolve the multicaster to use. A = small point, but why not just look for a bean of type = ApplicationEventMulticaster? IMHO making it bean id dependent is = superflous when the type can be used. I've attached a minor enhancement = to the AbstractContainerContext to remove the naming requirement for the = event multicaster JIC :-) I've also run all the tests without failures. =20 Cheers, =20 Ross =20 |

Thomas. On a somewhat related note, I would like to make classnames in the documentation link to the actual JavaDoc. The easiest way to do this is to create a link to the JavaDocs on the www.springframework.org website. Are we ok with the extra bandwidth this will potentially consume? The only other real alternative I can think of is to try to do some sort of relative path setup, so it can work on the filesystem, but I'm not sure if this is possible given that the single html, mult-file html, and PDF docs all need to point to the same thing. fyi guys-- so far things are still "go" for a planned move over for the spring rich client code base to its own project repository this weekend. Juergen, I can also work with you to move the spring-rules code out of the sandbox and into its own module as well (whenever it's convenient.) Keith _____ From: spr...@li... [mailto:spr...@li...] On Behalf Of Keith Donald Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 2004 7:28 PM To: spr...@li... Subject: [Springframework-rcp-dev] project next steps Rich client developers / early adopters, As yall may have noticed, spring-rcp is growing (which is great!), and I think we've reached a point where it's time to open up the codebase to a team of core developers (who are also users) in order to get the framework up to a consistent, quality release-candidate form faster. With that said, I am proposing moving the spring-rcp codebase to its own project location, hosted at sourceforge so we can do just this. Doing so will make it considerably easier for me to add quality committers, with a planned initial list consisting of me, Ben Alex, Jim Moore, and Scott Delap. We'll still be an official "spring subproject", this is purely an administrative thing so we can make sure those who have a vested interest in the project are enabled to actively contribute and improve upon it. This should be a very good thing. I know between Jim, Ollie, Ronald, and others, you guys have been submitting more patches then you can shake a stick at. Now we'll be able to improve the framework as a group. If I don't hear any objections, I'll get the ball rolling with an anticipated move-over date ASAP - my current plan is to make this happen this long holiday weekend. Right now I just wanted to put this out there. If you are personally interested in being a rcp developer, please drop me a line! Thanks! And hey, I very much appreciate the great feedback I've gotten so far on the framework - I am quite looking forward to continuing to work with you guys! Keith |

+1 for consolidation. Personally I prefer mailing lists: - All information (also from other projects) in one tool with the same handling - no need to check different forums and to remember different ways to post messages. - Messages I've seen are marked automatically, new messages are automatically identified. - The mail author is easily identified -- no "Sender: SourceForge.net" or meaningless sourceforge alias -- the senders address is available for private communication - I can mark, sort, archive... messages of (personal) interest Regarding people not knowing about the searchable archives at gmane: just include a link at the location where the mailing lists are announced and maybe in the message footer generated by the mailing list server and (most) people will know. +1 I agree with all your points - we need one place for support. You asked about the current website host. I don't think the issue is so much bandwith as it is an administration issue. Serving up static content is low maintenance from an admin standpoint and we don't really have a SLA issue. If you put up a support application of a more dynamic nature, it changes the whole picture and I think we should find a host that is set up with a SLA in mind. It would be frustrating to look for support and find the support site beeing down. All of a sudden you have two support issues :-).
