+1 for consolidation.

Personally I prefer mailing lists:
- All information (also from other projects) in one tool with the same 
handling - no need to check different forums and to remember different 
ways to post messages.
- Messages I've seen are marked automatically, new messages are 
automatically identified.
- The mail author is easily identified
-- no "Sender: SourceForge.net" or meaningless sourceforge alias
-- the senders address is available for private communication
- I can mark, sort, archive... messages of (personal) interest

Regarding people not knowing about the searchable archives at gmane: 
just include a link at the location where the mailing lists are 
announced and maybe in the message footer generated by the mailing list 
server and (most) people will know.
