+1 to consolidate into decent forums.  One of my pet peeves is that so many 
projects maintain both a mailing list and a forum for the same thing.  This 
means I have to search two places in order to find an answer to a question.  
And, if I can't find that answer, I have to decide which place to ask (do I 
ask in the mail list or the forum or both?).  If the mail list seems to be 
the better place (because it is more active), then I have to subscribe to 
that list.  One (nice and easy to use) forum to rule them all, I say.  And I 
agree, the current forums are difficult to use (for all the reasons you 
state).

We've talked about this briefly before, but I propose that we actually 
go ahead and for support purposes consolidate the existing SourceForge 
forums and the user mailing list into one or more forums run using some 
decent forum software (phpBB looks quite good; it's what's used by 
hibernate.org).

The SF forums are fairly horrific from both the point of view of people 
trying to get help (search is really bad, threading is really bad, they 
are slow, etc.), and the people trying to provide support (general 
management and visibility of threads, slowness). The mailing list is 
fine for what it is, but given the fact that most people don't run mail 
clients which do proper threading, and I doubt most people know about 
the searchable history archives at gmane, it's not terribly efficient 
either.

We've got a limited amount of resources available towards support, and 
my feeling is that moving to a consolidate solution with a good ui and 
good search capabilities will free up a bit of time initially, allow 
things to scale better in the longer term, and provide a better 
experience for everybody.

Let me know what you think. One issue is w/regards to hosting. Forums 
running something like phpBB would obviously incur some bandwidth. 
Thomas, I presume the host the website is on is out, in that respect, right?

Ok, my bad... I will however add a comment at each of the specific bean 
attributes (dependency-check, autowire, and lazy-init attributes) 
mentioning the default handling (inherit from setting in beans).

Note that the DTD specifies "default" as default value for the =
attribute:
=20
<!ATTLIST bean dependency-check (none | objects | simple | all | =
default) "default">
=20
So if there's no value specified, the XML parser will return "default", =
triggering the correct behavior in DefaultXmlBeanDefinitionParser.
=20
The test suite just verified this for the "autowire" attribute, so I've =
just added a similar test for "dependency-check".

I have added CannotAcquireLockException as a category for SQL error 
codes translation - we now have six standard categories.   I also added 
the CannotSerializeTransactionException that we discussed quite a while 
ago.  These along with the OptimisticLockingFailureException now inherit 
from a new ConcurrencyFailureException.  The new exception hierarchy for 
this branch looks like this:

DataAccessException
 |_ ConcurrencyFailureException
       |_ OptimisticLockingFailureException (existing class)
       |_ CannotAcquireLockException
       |_ CannotSerializeTransactionException

As I read this anyways, a bean element should use the default value 
unless overriden. Right now it will use the default value only when 
'default' is set at the bean level. The autowire and lazy init defaults 
are treated the same way.

I am curious why the defualting was done in this fashion. I was around 
at the time (autowire, anyways), but didn't pay too much attention. I 
think it doesn't make that much sense; at least the comment above has to 
be changed a bit, and the 'default' value has to be documented at the 
level of the bean.

I would personally also be ok with making these default true default 
(i.e. without people needing to use the explicit 'default' value, 
although this may not be appropriate given that it is not backwards 
compatible.

I put jms destination look ups (and dynamic destination creation) in the
jms.support package, JmsAdmin.java  I remember thinking there might be a
better way but can't think of it right now..  JmsTemplate delegates to
JmsAdmin for its look ups...

My 2cents...It isn't too early.  I didn't add support for setting the
default message destination for a producer.  That can be done asap.
The Bean<->Message converter class is just about ready for inclusion in the
sandbox.  I was just about to add it, along with corresponding methods no
the JmsSender such as you indicate, but took a step back to think about how
to better handle the QOS settings (TTL, persistent...)

A useful extension, indeed!

Including a CannotAcquireLockException would make sense, I guess, =
including the default mapping to ORA-54.

I agree regarding restricting mappings to DataAccessException. This =
would keep things clear from the perspective of calling code.

I'm creating a JmsTemplate class that allows one to specify a ConnectionFactory
jndi name and a Destination jndi name, both of which are needed to send and
receive messages in JMS.

They are both resources that are usually requested from JNDI as two different
lookups.

Now, I am making a JmsAccessor class (following the lead of HibernateAccessor
--> HibernateTemplate pattern) that handles acquiring those two objects.  I
wanted to subclass AbstractJndiLocator so I could utilize the resourceRef and
JndiTemplate support already there, but AbstractJndiLocator expects only one
object to be located.

Would it be prudent to create a superclass of AbstractJndiLocator called
AbstractJndiAccessor that provides everything except specifying a jndiName and
doing a singular lookup?  Then subclasses could do as many lookups as they
require during their afterPropertiesSet() methods.  AbstractJndiLocator would
still do its singular lookup, but other subclasses could do more than one...

Or maybe I'm off base architecturally?  Maybe my JmsAccessor should use OO

I'm working on offering several form handling macros for our Velocity and=20
=46reeMarker support, the first task of which is to offer equivalents to th=

existing <spring:bind> JSP tags.

Although a version of this is currently working for both Velocity and FM,=20
I'm not entirely happy with it since it uses tools offered by the=20
respective projects for expression evaluation and there are limitations in=

the implementation that don't apply to our bind tag.

What I want to do is leverage the existing JSP code which would mean=20
refactoring the BindTag and BindStatus classes (moving the non-JSP specific=

code from the one into the other) making BindStatus more intelligent, and=20
reusable across different view technologies.  Does anyone see any potential=

[Springframework-developer] AbstractWizardFormController.onBindAndValidate() problem

Hi,

There is a problem with the validation process in  
AbstractWizardFormController (hereafter, AWFC). There is a no-op,  
page-specific onBindAndValidate() method defined, and this method is  
called by BaseCommandController.bindAndValidate() (because it calls the  
non-page-specific AWFC.onBindAndValidate()). However, because  
isValidateOnBinding() is false for AWFC, onBindAndValidate() is called  
before AWFC calls validatePage() for the particular page.

Please advise me on how this should be handled, or whether this is a  
bug in Spring that needs to be fixed.

so I thought I'd best actually commit the code. Warning though I've not 
tested it yet  - we need an integration test to make sure this works & 
we handle all the lifecycle methods properly :)

Basically we've a GBean for Geronimo so that any existing spring XML 
config file can be slurped up & turned into beans and managed in a JSR 
77/88 way & hot deployed - so Geronimo can hot deploy arbitrary Spring 
containers within the core J2EE container - all managed in the same 
stack as web apps, web containers, EJB containers etc. We should also 
be able to JMX-ifiy all the beans as they are created into the JSR 
77/88 management stack.

At JavaOne we've discussed maybe having a special naming convention, 
say putting spring.xml inside META-INF/ or something, so that you can 
put your code in a regular jar with the XML deployment descriptor then 
drop it in a directory or whatnot and Geronimo could auo-detect it & 
use the SpringGBean to deploy it.

Its still early days but hopefully once this is sorted out & working, 
developers can spend their time in development mode just using Spring 
by itself, then at any point in time drop their jar into Geronimo (or 
build a deployment binary of Geronimo) and hey presto their apps 
running inside a J2EE container.

Going forward we should be able to further increase the functionality 
of the SpringGBean to closer integrate the two projects so that the 
Spring POJOs can take better, more efficient & easier use of the J2EE
