I am attempting to plot a simple heatmap on a png. The data will
consist of:
lat,lon,value - where value is a measurement taken at a particular
lat/lon
lat,lon,0 - where lat,lon represent the boundary of the area, and
0 is a hard coded value to print a specific color
I have tried
plot 'boundary.csv' with lines
plot 'boundary.csv' using 1:2 with lines
plot 'boundary.csv' matrix using 1:2:3 with points
splot 'boundary.csv' matrix with image
I can seem to draw a simple geographic boundary :(
Here is the boundary dataset:

Thanks for the input.
I guess no optimal solution exists, it is hard to ensure the "reader" of
the
graph knows what the minor ticks means unless the "normal" 8 minor
ticks is used.
I will try to figure out if any convention exists in the mathematical
literature, and
return if I find any.

The issue of minor tics on a log scale axis has been problematic since the origin of gnuplot, lost in the dim mists of time. The oldest bug in the tracker complains about this. But over the last 10 years I have never seen a coherent proposal about how the program could better handle a "set mxtics" command in log-scale mode, let alone a patch that would implement it. IMHO the best thing is to treat "set/unset mxtics" in log scale mode as an on/off operation only. "on" means you get autogenerated minor tics, "off" means you don't get any. As John points out, you can generally set mxtics to 10. That fixes some odd corner cases when the total range on x is less than one decade, but can introduce strangeness in other corner cases. Dear all
I am using the cairolatex to produce figure for inclusion in latex.
However, I would very much like to have both an eps and an pdf file
generated from gnuplot
(like what is possible in xfig) for use with both latex and pdflatex.
The concrete problem is that I have figures with transparency, and if I
convert the final pdf file (after pdflatex processing) to an eps file
using pdftops
the fonts are ruined (this only happens for figures with transparency).
I need both the pdf and eps version so that is ignoring.
Having gnuplot making both file format would provide the needed
flexibility.

Break it down into steps:
awkcommand = "awk '/Total/ {print $4}' ".file

It seems you misunderstand what a macro is in gnuplot.
It is not some kind of function that is executed in-line.
Gnuplot macros do not take parameters.
They are basically a text-substitution mechanism that operates
before the command is executed. Think of it as running a
search-and-replace operation in a text editor before
feeding the result to gnuplot. The editor has no idea about
gnuplot syntax like do loops or if statements - it applies
the search-and-replace everywhere.

Sorry, gnuplot doesn't have arrays.
But it does have functions, so if your total() function can be
evaluated at the time it is used then your command above might
be close to working.

You cannot change the definition of a macro inside a do loop.
The macro is expanded before the loop is executed, so the
resulting expansion will be the same every time through the
loop.
But I don't see from the fragment there why you need to use
a macro anyhow. What is wrong with using item(i) directly?

Hi all, I have a set of performance data, which look like this: <timestamp>;<category with a string>;<value> I would like to have histograms per category. There is no list of categories available. Is there any way to do this with gnuplot or I have to use some other tool like awk to filter the data? Thanks in advance! -- Regards, *Tamás*. |

The colors work fine if I remove the statement "unset key", but the
moment I add the statement, the colors go back to the default. Does
anyone know how to fix this? I'm using gnuplot 4.6 patchlevel 3.

As stated that is not possible. Each major tic generates a grid line whether or not it has a visible label associated with it. You might be able to construct a command that adds tics only at the time labels, but then you would have neither grid line nor tic marks at the other points. Hmm. Hi,
I'm trying to create a fence plot with several non-normalized data
files. First I need to make them uniform by normalizing to the maximum
value in each dataset, using the stats command.
When plotting I need to call upon the maximum for each dataset to
normalize the column I'm trying to plot, but I just can't figure out
how to do it properly.
The minimal script below fails only in the normalization with:
warning: maxval is not a string variable
files = "file1 file2 file3"
laser_sb = 172.0
col = 3
unset key
set style data impulses
do for [i = 1 : words(files)] {
stats (word(files, i) . '.csv') using col name 'file'.i

I want to resume to distribute Cygwin binary both on 32 and 64bit of CVS. I am not a latex user. But the current windows binary ships the latex tutorial so that I thought it was better to prepare it to the Cygwin binary. Regards Tatsuro |
