[Gnuplot-info] Problem with opaque key overlapping axis

Hi all

I would like to move the key part to overlap with the axis,
but have noticed that the "opaque" option does not work on the axis but 
only on the plot itself and the tic-markers.

A very minimal is:

set key box opaque at screen 0.90,0.98
plot sin(x)

where it is clearly seen (on gnuplot 4.6 patchlevel 5) that the plot and 
tic markers are gone, but the axis is drawn over the key.
I have tried with a number of different therminals and it seems to be 
the same.

Is this the intended interpretation of the opaque option?
Does an work around  exists?



In multiplot mode it becomes even more strange, as the opaque option now 
is working inconsistently.

When running the below attached example (on gnuplot 4.6 patchlevel 5)
the opaque key box nicely overlays the axis from the top plot but not 
from the bottom plot.

set multiplot layout 2,1

set bmargin 0
set xtics format ""
set key off
plot sin(x), cos(x), sin(2*x)

show that within dialog box.Can I ask what is best way to display plot

[Gnuplot-info] Migrating to Windows 8

I can modify my .txt files in a text editor and change the terminal to
"windows." 

Then they run fine


I have several files (I wrote under Ubutnu maybe a year or so ago) saved
with the *.gnu extension that apparently need the same treatment


I cannot recall how to open a *.gnu file for editing in or out of gnuplot

If you set up a naming convention, this can be made to work. Call your
script graphics.sh and for each gnuplot script, foo.gnu, have a
symlink foo.sh to graphics.sh. Change the last line to

gnuplot ${0/%gnu/sh}

Now only one script is needed.

set output "STDOUT"

redirects the output to a file named STDOUT.
The following works for me. All output is sent to stdout.

# send printed output to stdout
set print "-"
print "Content-Type: image/svg+xml"
print ""
set terminal svg
plot [0:2*pi] sin(x)

Hello,

I am wondering  if it is possible to make gnuplot to output
"Content-Type: image/svg+xml" to use gnuplot scripts directly with cgi.

E.g. for this

	#!/usr/bin/gnuplot
	set terminal svg
	plot sin(x)

I  currently have to use a wrapper:

	#!/bin/bash
	echo "Content-Type: image/svg+xml"
	echo
	$PWD/myplot.gnu

But having a wrapper script for each gnuplot script is not ideal.
I tried to add this to the gnuplot script:

	print "Content-Type: image/svg+xml"
	print ""

but then this goes to STDERR instead of STDOUT so next I also added

	set output "STDOUT"

but then only the header is displayed and the svg data is missing.

there is a bunch of gnuplot-defined variables
GPVAL_*
which contain the state of the recent plot.

a simple solution would be to make a dummy plot,
save the plot ranges, define the labels and then
do the real plot:

set terminal push
set teminal dumb
plot "filename" ...

set xrange [GPVAL_X_MIN:GPVAL_X_MAX]
set yrange [GPVAL_Y_MIN:GPVAL_Y_MAX]
set label 1 sprintf("xmin: %f",GPVAL_X_MIN) at ...
set label 2 sprintf("xmax: %f",GPVAL_X_MAX) at ...

set terminal pop
replot

Thanks, maybe you are referring to absolute and relative coordinate, or
something like that. I know that might be a way to address my concerns.

commands. Someone posted a solution here using a dummy plot a while
back, but I never investigated it.

the plot. But I wonder how I can possibly save them as parameters to be
used for my purpose. It seems the plot will not know the range until it
finishes plotting the data, but after the data is finished plotting the
label, key etc have been put on the plot.

Would 'show xrange' and 'show yrange' help?

gnuplot can tell you a lot about itself. See 'help show'.

pwd

Now have a look in the directory pwd says gnuplot is using.

not been overwritten or upended by set Output file name & plot command.It

I have restarted program few times.
File size , date & time doesn't change after these restarts.

if you would have a look into the file "MainPlot.png" with
a binary editor or viewer you would see that there are two
png-images written into this file one after the other.

because the png-format is a single image format (no animation)
an image display program stops after the first image (it reads
the "IEND" chunk), neglecting the second image.

if you want to overwrite the image, you have to close
("set output") and reopen the output file.

assuming that you want to interpret the 3rd column in
the datafile as color information, the syntax for
variable colors in one plot is

plot "data.dat" using 1:2:3 linecolor variable

where the 3rd argument to 'using' specifies the column
to read the color information from.

So the x should be the actual color specifying number in the file. The
data.dat looks like this:

By the way: the "background" option is missing
from the command synopsis for the pdfcairo
terminal in the gnuplot docs (but it is listed
explicitly for the postscript and png terminals
for example).

Is there a way to make the background color (by
default: white) to be non-transparent in pdfcairo?

When I create a file using "set term pdfcairo", the
resulting PDF has a transparent background - is there
a way to make it opaque?
