The gnuplot emacs interface in the gnuplot distribution is out of date. A very updated mode is here: https://github.com/bruceravel/gnuplot-mode You should patch that tree (if it doesn't have your fixes already). Ethan and co: this came up last year, but we didn't do anything about it. Can we either remove the gnuplot emacs mode from the CVS tree (since it's maintained in github already), or make it obvious that the gnuplot.el hosted HERE is a mirror rather than the upstream? dima |

I have the same issue. I "solved" it by using pngcairo instead of png. For some reason, pngcairo finds the macOS fonts, while png appears not to. Hello gnuplot+vim users: I have created an updated version of the gnuplot syntax highlighting file for vim. It is available at http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=4873. All you need to do to install it is place it in ~/.vim/syntax/ under *nix/Mac OS, or $HOME/vimfiles/syntax/ on Windows (so I'm told). The version of gnuplot.vim that ships with vim is 11 years out of date, and the only other one I found was by Jim Eberle in 2006 ( http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=1737). Hi, I want map some labels with points with different sizes. Hello,
I have a data file which looks like this
"Vendor" "2000" "2001" "2002" "2003"
V1 32 64
V2 64 32
As you can see some years are empty. For example 2000 and 2003 are empty for V1 and 2001 and 2003 are empty for V2. I don't want to add 0 for them.
The X-axis contains 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 and the Y-axis contains V1 and V2.
Also note that I want to have variable point sizes. For example the value of 32 is a point with 'ps 1' and the value of 64 is a point with 'ps 2'.
Here is what I wrote
set xtics ("2000" 0, "2001" 1, "2002" 2, "2003" 3)
set ytics ("V1" 0, "V2" 1)
plot 'data.txt' using "2000":"Vendor", \
'' using "2001":"Vendor", \
'' using "2002":"Vendor", \
'' using "2003":"Vendor"
But it doesn't work and says "x range is not valid".
How can I do the job?

Your knowledge is incomplete, then. There's no "by default" involved.
If they're separated, they're separated.

Hi, I would like to have 3 (or more) groups of bars, each group in its own colour. Each group shows the same points over time. I don't want to mix them in the normal way. However, until now I have not been able to produce this. Example 1, seems to be the correct way to do it. I get more or less what I want, but only with a single colour. In example 2, I get the colours to work the way I want, but the group names are not working and the groups are no longer separated? How can I get the group names back and separate the bar groups like in example 1? Ideally I would like to have the points in each group numbered 1,2,etc and the groups with colours in a key. Is there a way to get exactly what I want? Thanks, J. Found out the solution
set pm3d map
;sp 'dataBinary.dat' binary record=(100,-1) format='%f' u 1:2:3 w pm3d
here record=(100,-1) will tell gnuplot that each isoline contains 100 data points
and -1 will tell that it has to be read upto end of file.
So we dont need a blank line in binary files.

Thanks Ethan. Sorry for not having been clear enough in my question. I understand GNUPlot creates 2D projection of 3D data, but when I use the x11 terminal, I'm assuming GNUPlot uses some kind of 3D data structure to create the graph that I can rotate, zoom, etc. Well, would that be possible to use the same data structure to create a u3d file that I can incorporate into a pdf using LaTeX? That would be quite awesome. Alternatively, is there an open-source alternative that would allow me to do so? Thanks a lot! Gnuplot does not output true 3D graphs. It outputs a 2D projection. Storing it as u3d would not make sense.
