[Gnuplot-info] Data values along a line in a pm3d map

Dear All,

I have used gnuplot to generate pm3d colour maps of my 3D data, but I need to find a way to plot the values of this map along a line.  Is there a way to define a line, by start and end coordinates, and then to read the pm3d map data at each x,y coordinate along this line and then plot this.  This would essentially be a line-out mechanism found in other plotting software.

If anyone knows a method to do this, or can point me to good online resources, I would really appreciate it.
