[Gnuplot-info] bug in custom colors

Gentlemen,

Under options for line color, you have set up a palette for generating
custom colors. (vers. 4.0) There are 16 boxes for storing the custom colors.
Thus, the custom colors are supposed to be saved. Yet, as soon as you click
on OK, all the custom colors you have generated disappear !! All the work
you have done is lost, and the custom colors are gone, and cannot be saved!
Is this a known issue?

is it possible to format numerical outputs created by the print command
inside gnuplot (like the printf command inside c)?

how can i get the output

I did build the latest CVS version of gnuplot, upgrading ALL the libraries=
 in the process (pdf/png/gd/zlib/jpeg/freetype).
Symbol fonts now display properly.

FYI: I could not build GD 2.0.28 with PNG 1.2.7.  I had to use PNG 1.2.6.

Hi

I'm out of luck getting symbol fonts on a PNG term.
I work on Linux, and the symbol font was not available in my font path=
 (/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1).

So:
 I created a 'fonts' directory in my HOME, copied the Symbol.ttf from my=
 Windows box, issued 'ttmkfdir > fonts.scale' and 'mkfontdir', setenv the=
 GDFONTPATH to add my new fonts dir, and.... you guessed - does not work.=
 The only characters I get in my plots are squares (when using the symbol=
 font).

What is puzzling is that other ttf fonts copied from windows are working=
 when using the above process.

I tried it with the current version on Windows 4.0.  It could be
fooled by dragging the graph window into a non-standard shape, but by
default, size -1 works nicely.  Including the (GD powered) PNG output.

Version 3.7.3 is old.  Please update to 4.0.0 ASAP.  Given the man-power
situation in the project, we really can't afford dealing with problems
in non-current versions.

"set size ratio -1" does not seem to work as expected.  Plot the enclosed
scripts: note that the tics don't appear to have constant spacing and the
circle is an ellipse.  Changing to png output doesn't fix the problem.
This is using 3.7.3 under Fedora Core 2.

Is this a known problem?  Did I foo up the ratio setting somehw?

By using tools outside gnuplot.  gnuplot isn't really a number crunching
utility, and trying to use it as one is bound to fail sooner or later.

A little awk script does this quite nicely.  Here's one from my
collection:

Hi.

I have datafile, with 3 columns, where column 1 indicates samplenumber, 
while col. 2 and col. 3 is values.
I want to make a diff-plot, but how can I accomplish this?

Let say we have two vectors: x and y.
ydiff will consist of   [x(1),  x(2) - x(1), x(3) - x(2), ...., x(N) - 
x(N-1)]


How can I make ydiff in gnuplot? Is it possible?

The problem is that gnuplot's EMF output was declared forbidden by an XP 
security patch a while after we published version 4.0.0.  The current 
version of the source code is fixed already, but we didn't make an 
updated general release yet.

i use the Gnuplot version 4 for win32 ("gp400win32.zip") under Windows XP.
It works great,
but when i set the Terminal to emf ("Enhanced Metafile") and the output for
example "test.emf"
the created file is empty. Under Windows 2000, the viewer show me this
picture correct.

So i hope you can tell me what the problem is. Don't you support windows xp
and the emf or
what must i do to show this file.

The other Fileformats working great (gif, svg, png).

Hello, Sirs.

I use gnuplot 4.0.0 on Linux with X.

I can control the plotting window geometry through command 
line switch, like
$ gnuplot -geometry 800x300
when I don't have geometry specification in my .Xresources file.
But onece I put "gnuplot.geometry: 512x384" in .Xresources,
gnuplot always follows it and does not hear command line
option.

It seems somehow not usual for an X appliacation, i.e. usually
command line overrides the X resource, right? 
I tried the reverse video, too, and the behavior was the same.

Isn't this inconvenient? 
I want to put my general preference in .Xresources, but sometimes 
I want a different setting with command line switch.

If i want to plot my results not in an orderd x- axis system, how should =
i do=20
this in gnuplot? For example: my first value is=20

I could number the results from 1 to n, but then i do not know the x-labe=

Not really.  You (and/or your sysadmin) *made* it stop working --- it
didn't
just stop working all by itself.

So, in a nutshell, two applications, both authored by Microsoft,
disagreed on
whether this was a correct PNG.  Where I come from, that points the
blame
firmly into the state of Washington, U.S.A.

Hi,

I have a befuddling problem.  I recently upgraded to gnuplot 4.0 to take
advantage of filled bars.  Everything was going beautifully, and my Perl
script was driving gnuplot to generate .png files, which I copied over to
windoze, and included in PowerPoint.

Then one day, it stopped working.  The .png as imported into PPT was
trashed, although it was viewable & correct in other applications
(Netscape on Solaris, Microsoft Photo Editor).  When I "Save As..." the
.png to another filename with Microsoft Photo Editor, PPT was able to
import the new .png just fine.

The only thing I can think of that changed is that I switched from the
package-installed gnuplot4.0 to a version built by my sysadmin (because we
didn't want to be forced to install the help file where gnuplot was
compiled to look for it -- why isn't this controlled by an environment
variable!?!?).  But when he reverted back to the package-installed
gnuplot4.0 for me, the problem did not go away!

Any ideas?

Because 'pm3d' is an option for 'splot's, not for normal 'plot's

Neither of those options has anything to do with smoothing.  What you
should use depends on what kind of data you have, and also whether it's a
2D or 3D plot.  2D plot has the 'smooth' option, which see.  3D plot can
be made smoother by the 'dgrid3d' option.  Or you can do the smoothing
yourself, before you hand the data to gnuplot.

You have created a data file that has 'grid structure' (see "help splot 
datafile"), so gnuplot is trying to plot it as a surface.  If that's not
what you wanted, you'll have to insert *two* blank lines instead of just
one, between lines of constant y.

The attached datafile does not splot as I would expect. There are no points
that correspond to a line joining the y=7/23 data to the y=7/24 data, yet I
see lines. I expect all lines to be joining points at y=7/23 or y=7/24,
never between one point on one date and another point on the other date. I
guess I have arranged my data incorrectly, but I can't really see what's
wrong. Anyone have any ideas?

I somewhat doubt there are actual blanks.  What you see there is
gnuplot guessing the actual width of a text stream incorrectly.  That's
impossible to avoid in the current design, because gnuplot simply
doesn't know the metrics of PostScript fonts, and it's not very likely
it ever will.

You'll do better by choosing a fixed-width font, usually.  For the
remaining cases, you have option 'width' in the 'set key' command
to fix them up manually.

Hello,

I have a problem with the postscript driver. For some reason, some 
blanks are added before the text in the legend, causing the legend to 
hide the grid to the left or to be badly aligned if the option set key 
top left is used. Here is an example:

set term post
set out "sinus.ps"
set style data lines
f(x)=sin(x)
set grid
set xtics 0.5
set xrange[0:10]
set yrange [-1.1:1.1]
set key top left
plot f(x) title "should be near the left border"
!gv sinus.ps &


I use the  4.1 patchlevel 0 version on linux.
