values between MS excel and gnuplot.

Hi Timo again ;) Just wanted to tell you that it works for me. Two crucial points I've found out: Don't forget to run automake *AND* autoheader [although the latter is not mentioned on Merritt's site] before configuring... I was dumb enough to forget it -> it took me a few more tries to get it working. And secondly, the "font" definition in the plot line (as it is in the examples on Merrit's site) is absolutely necessary, otherwise you'll only get an error message. I see you have a comment from 20010831 in axis.c:make_tics() that is suggestive. The logic in axis.c regarding tics appears quite delicate. How hard do you think it would be to start/end the axis on a minitic rather than a major tic if too large a fraction of the range is wasted? If you give me some suggestions, I would be glad to see if I can make it work but don't want to tackle it if it doesn't make sense. Thanks - Jim |

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, in unserem Hause funktioniert gnuplot 3.7 auf einer Linux-Maschine (Suse = 9.0) sehr gut. Ich habe die Version 4.0 =FCbersetzt, aber leider funktioniert diese = Version nicht. Der Terminal type wird nicht auf 'X11' gesetzt sondern auf 'unknown'. Im file config.h wird #define X_DISPLAY_MISSING 1 gesetzt. Was kann ich tun, damit ich erfolgreich mit der Version 4.0 arbeiten = kann. Oops. Typo xrange should have been yrange. Embarassing. I'm actually using gnuplot.py where I am using yrange and it is having no effect. I'll need to look deeper... Have to look more closely. But it would still be nice to have less wasted plot area for auto-scaled plots... Jim |

I have a plot with several traces one of which dips down ever so slightly below the starting value but is then increasing. This causes an entire major tick to be used that is more or less wasted and in this case it is a large fraction of the plot. Setting yrange doesn't affect the plot. Here is a simple example. 1.) put that stuff line by line into a file, say mygraph.plt, start gnuplot=

and say:
load "mygraph.plt"
2.) help <COMMAND> tells you things right from the commandline,
3.) see the many many examples that all are files that come with the gnuplo=
t=20
distribution,
4.) RTFM! :-) It is actually not very hard to achieve what you want to do w=
ith=20
gnuplot.

When I start gnuplot it says: Terminal type set to 'x11' Then I do something simple like: gnuplot>x=5 gnuplot>plot sin(x) I get a window that pops open for about 3 seconds with a graph on it and then suddenly it crashes and I have to restart my computer because it kills explorer and every application I have running. Any help would be appreciated. I'm working under GnuPlot 4.0 on Windows XP Pro and the version of
GnuPlot of Linuw Mandrake 10.0.

Im relatively new to Gnuplot, and have the following problem: I have several points in a file in this order: <title of point0> <x value of point0> <y value of point0> <title of point1> <x value of point1> <y value of point1> . . . Dear folks, I have a script which occasionally will try to do plots of empty data files, and should just ignore the resulting errors; instead gnuplot stops execution when it encounters the first error. Although I searched the web as well as the gnuplot docs & list archives for a switch to change this behaviour, I've not found anything usable.
