Oops.  Typo xrange should have been yrange.  Embarassing.

I'm actually using gnuplot.py where I am using yrange and it is having 
no effect.  I'll need to look deeper...

Have to look more closely.

But it would still be nice to have less wasted plot area for
auto-scaled plots...
