I am kapil Kondapally a graduate student. I am trying to develop a graph
in perl with help of GNUPLOT version 3.7. I am done with the grpah and I
need to fill the bars(graph) with differnt colors. I tried to use many
commands like style etc but it did not work. Can you please send me the
syantax of the command that I should use so that I can have bars in the
graph completely filled with different colors.

Not while they're still the "axes".  The linetype of these border edges 
is not controllable individually.

What you can do is turn of the boundary, and draw your own one using 
something like

	set border 5
	set arrow from graph 0, graph 0 to graph 0, graph 1 lt 1 nohead
	set arrow from graph 1, graph 0 to graph 1, graph 1 lt 2 nohead

A smart way to specify which curve is dedicated to which axe is to give the
axes the same colour the curve have.
So my question is : instead of having black axes by default, can I give
colours to axes with Gnuplot ?

[Gnuplot-info] linespoints with pointsize variable

I really need to be able to "turn off" points in my linespoints plots. I 
figured that I could do it with "pointsize variable", and then set those 
points to size zero in the data file. I even installed
gnuplot version 4.1 for this purpose. Unfortunately, it seems to work with 
"points" style,
but not with "linespoints". Is it a bug? Is there any way around?

gnuplot doesn't do linear regression.  It does non-linear least-squares 
fitting, which encloses linear fits to a simple straight line as a 
special case.

I'm not as sure as you that this difference must mean it's gnuplot that 
is wrong ;-)

This suggests you were *way* off with the startup values you gave 
gnuplot --- that's why the value for 'b' never moved at all.

There are a lot of things wrong with your example case:

* your 'x' is a date+time.  You don't seem to have used gnuplot's
date/time parsing capabilities in the fragment of gnuplot command script 
you show

* gnuplot and Excel use wildly different internal scales for date/time 
values, so the expectation of getting numerically equal results is flawed.

* you wrote 'using 1:2' --- that will plot and fit the hour against the 
date.  Almost certainly not what you wanted.

* the model function (linear dependance of y on time) doesn't fit the 
data at all, neither for 'using 1:2', nor for 'using 1:3'.

* the form a*x+b is spectacularly mismatched to a dataset that sits this 
far away from the point x=0 (new year 2000 for gnuplot, some thing like 
newyear 1900 for Excel, IIRC).

* the fit, once it's been forced to work by fixing most of the above 
problems, would have hugely different sizes for parameters a and b:

Translated to the original form, this fitted function is:

	f(x) = (-7+/-16)*1e-5*(x-17e7) + 1e8*(1.2+/-0.3)*1e-5
	     = (-7e-5 +/- 16e-5) * x + (14000 +/- 27000)

That's nine orders of magnitudes of difference between a and b.  This 
causes severe numerical problems for the fit.


gnuplot is at least honest with you.  It's telling you right away that 
this didn't work:

Errors of 2000 percent and more should be sufficient warning that 
something's not right here.

You are getting all "increments" labelled already.  There are just not 
as many increments placed automatically as you want.

	set xtics 1

will change that for you.  See "help xtics" for further details.

Yes.  You do that by using something else than "with lines".  No please 
start reading the documentation to find out what your options are.

proposed on the (gnuplot) list here - I wrote a perl script that
can change the colors in the postscript file output
by gnuplot. As this problem arose in an octave context, I am
crossposting it to the he...@oc... list as well.

I was just wondering if there is a way to get every increment labelled
on the x-axis.  Right now my x-axis has a range of 0-24.  When the graph
is displayed it shows 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 on the x-axis, I would like
every number, 1, 2, 3 or even maybe every second number displayed.  Is
there any way to do this?

I'm using Windows 2000, and I've gotten good results except I can't get 
a parametric plot to display with a set of data points.   I'm using C, 
inspired by pdemo.c.  First, here's what works:

That works fine.  The line with the 2 sqrt()s draws 2 circle arcs, so 
the result is a circle and a series of points.  That's what I want, 
except the circle has gaps and is of two colors.   I would prefer a 
parametric plot, but when I replace that line with the following it does 
not draw anything:

   fprintf(gnuplot, "set parametric\n");
   fprintf(gnuplot, "[-pi:pi] 100*sin(t), 100*cos(t)\n");
   fprintf(gnuplot, "unset parametric\n");

So, how can my C program draw a parametric plot followed by a bunch of 
points?

Gentlemen:

Presently, dashed and dotted lines can  be used with  only black lines of a
single width.

In future versions please consider allowing dashed and dotted lines in lines
that are colored and in any width.

Sometimes you might wish to separate plots into groups, for which the same
color would apply to all plots in the group.  Yet, you would want to
distinguish between particular elements in that group.  Hence, letting
colored and broader lines be modified with dots and dashes.

[Gnuplot-info] Plotting a bar graph

I get a graph with the 4 points on it.  I read that if I use the 'plot'
command and then 'with lines' it connects the points with lines.  Is
there anyway to get a bar graph as my output??
