Hi guys, I am using gnuplot version 4.0. I am accessing gnuplot functions in a C program by using an interface program. I am using the multiplot feature of the gnuplot. Initially, I haven't set the key. So the legends were getting printed on the upper right corner of the graph. But as the data in the graph increased, the legends were getting overwritten on the data. So I wanted the legends to be shifted below the graph. I am using "set key below" to achieve the same. But then the legends are getting printed repetitively. Suppose I have a multiplot graph with three legends, then the first legend is getting printed thrice, second twice and the last one is getting printed once. In the default case also, the legends were getting printed in the same manner. But since there starting position was same, they were appearing as if printed only once. When I am using "set key below", then there starting position differs. I have also tried using "set key below x,y" to fix the starting position. But in that case, the legends are getting printed vertically. I want it to be displayed horizontally. I am using gnuplot 4.0 on a 64 bit linux machine with gcc version 3.4.5. And there's nothing we can do about that --- we didn't make a Synaptic package out of gnuplot. You'll have to bring this to the attention of whoever did that, and tell them to be a bit more careful about the ./configure --prefix setting. |

I have installed gnuplot on Ubuntu using the Synaptic package manager and it says it has installed OK. When I type gnuplot in a terminal the package starts and I get the gnuplot prompt. However when I type help I get an error:- /usr/local/share/gnuplot/4.0/gnuplot.gih: No such file or directory When I browse my hard disk I find the the file gnuplot.gih is in directory:- /usr/share/gnuplot If I try plot sin(x) I get:- Expected X11 driver: /usr/local/libexec/gnuplot/4.0/gnuplot_x11 Exec failed: No such file or directory See 'help x11' for more details There is no such directory as gnuplot under /usr/local/libexec/ Is there an obvious problem that can easily be fixed? I'm creating a histogramm with the gnuplot 4.2 release candidate,
everything so far works excellent :)
I have one problem however, the histogramm describes a set of benchmarks
and the xtics are supposed to describe the test. All I want to do is to
insert simple line-breaks as to be able to write the description into
the xtic, like this:
set xtics ("Creation, transp., deformation of a 1500x1500 matrix" 0.0,
"800x800 normal distributed random matrix ^1000" 1.0)
If I do insert a manual "\n" however, the rest of the sentence after the
line-break vanishes!
Any help greatly appreciated :)

Hi, I need an unusually large x dimension, but I found that when I set xsize to somewhere between 50 and 100 (writing to a png image on mac os X) instead of increasing the x dimension, I get 2 replicas, side by side, of a very large (but still not large enough) graph. xsize scales perfectly up to around 50, and then this unusual behavior occurs quite reproducibly. My guess is that there is a constant within gnuplot that sets an upper limit to the value of xsize? I am a novice at using gnuplot, let alone editing and recompiling it, and I was hoping for some guidance on how to overcome this problem. If it is a matter of editing and recompiling, I would need fairly specific help on the directory location and file to edit, and how to recompile. Thanks for your help, Barry Zeeberg NIH/NCI |
