I would like to load strings from a file, put them in a variable and them print them on-screen with "set label" command. Does anyone know how I could load strings and keep them in memory ? Gentlemen, It would be a very good thing, when in parametric mode, if the parameter = value (t) could be gotten from the points on the curve; either from the = mouse cursor, or by having an x movable on the curve from the keyboard. Please give this your consideration. Thanks, Mike L. Brooklyn, NY |

Your build logfile probably can. The printout of "show version long" also should. The most likely explanation is that you didn't have GD installed where ./configure would have found it. |

That would only happen if you used option 'smooth uniq' or something. gnuplot doesn't summarize y values unless explicitly asked to. > More widely, how to use non-numeric values for X axis (or implicitly > interpret them as non-numeric) > and display Y values with fixed step? Either by setting up a long-form 'set xtics' statement (works with every version you're likely to have), or using the 'with labels' plot style new with version 4.2 |

The postscript driver doesn't support that, and for good reason, too --- it's not nice to whoever's paying the toner in your printer to fill printouts with solid black. If you really need the plots inverted, you can always do it outside gnuplot. Ghostscript or pstoedit spring to minds as tools for this job. > 2. In windows I do not succees to control the colors thru gnuplot.ini That's because gnuplot.ini has nothing to do with it. Colours are controlled by wgnuplot.ini for the windows terminal, or directly via linecolor options. |

Hello world! > 1. When I use 'postscript' terminal, how can I get a > black background with white lines? I can do it on the > screen but unable to get a postscripy. As far as I know the postscript terminal does not provide this feature directly. I would solve this problem by producing a regular postscript output with the terminal option monochrome (black lines on a white surface), which I then would open in my favourite picture editor (e.g. The Gimp, http://www.gimp.org ) to revert the colors, so that black becomes white and vice versa. Some hints can also be found in gnuplots help, see "help editing postscript". > 2. In windows I do > not succees to control the colors thru gnuplot.ini I suppose, your problem is, that gnuplot under Windows uses wgnuplot.ini for the settings of the colors and other things (notice the w in front). See "help wgnuplot.ini" for more detailled information. Regards Lars |

Dear Gnuplot First let me thank you for the Gnuplot code which has been very helpful during my work. I have two quesyions: 1. When I use 'postscript' terminal, how can I get a black background with white lines? I can do it on the screen but unable to get a postscripy. 2. In windows I do not succees to control the colors thru gnuplot.ini Thanks again Eytan Barouch Professor |

Currently, "plot 'datafile' using 1:2" > displays 24 steps only, each summarizes Y-values from > records for Nth hour. Sure it does, since it was designed to plot x/y-datafiles and your datafile only contains x-values from 1 to 24. But there ist hope: You may read more about gnuplots facilities to deal with timeseries. Please see "help format" and "help timefmt". If your datafile is filled completely with values given for _every_ hour, one other way of plotting it would be to use the line number of the datafile as x-value. I would solve your problem by something like this: plot "file" using ($0*24):2 $0 stands for the line number. By this you can use it like every other variable within mathematical expressions, that may be used as one of the arguments of the using-option. > More widely, how to use non-numeric values for X axis (or > implicitly interpret them as non-numeric) > and display Y values with fixed step? > For example, > WakeUp 1.234 # display at X=1 > GotoHome 5.678 # display at X=2 For this there are special values "0", "-1" and "-2" within the using-option, see "help using". If you want to use the special names of the lines given as column one for the names of the xtics, you may use the various features given by the scanf-library in combination with "set xtics". Some of the facilities of scanf are also described in the help-text of using. HTH Lars > ... > > WBR, Ilya |

Hi, folks! There is gnuplot 4.0 patchlevel 0 under FreeBSD 5.5, installed from ports with default options. Data file contains records like following: 09 13.62 10 27.55 ..where first column is a hour. Total count of records is more than 24 (data for many days). How to display data without summarizing records with the same hour value? Currently, "plot 'datafile' using 1:2" displays 24 steps only, each summarizes Y-values from records for Nth hour. More widely, how to use non-numeric values for X axis (or implicitly interpret them as non-numeric) and display Y values with fixed step? For example, WakeUp 1.234 # display at X=1 GotoHome 5.678 # display at X=2 ... WBR, Ilya |

Hi, folks! There is gnuplot 4.0 patchlevel 0 under FreeBSD 5.5, installed from ports with default options. The picture is created as following: set term png transparent interlace color giant size 800,600 But actually created picture is 640x480. Font size (medium, large, giant) is also ignored. Can somebody explain this? WBR, Ilya |

Hi I am trying to plot a cube with only dots, and i want to color the dots acourding to some numbers i calculate. Is this possible? Its fairly easy to plot 3d but the color comes as a function on the z value. I do not subscribe to this list so please reply to me too. -- Idar |

Sir, I send one mail regarding non working of -rv option in gnuplot. but i dnt get any replay from your side. i found the problem some how. but i dont know how to correct it. Previously to enable the screen savers, in my .profile i added /usr/X11R6/bin to PATH variable. after that gnuplot is not taking -rv option. Please do the necessary action. |

Else my figures gets with "rare" shapes You'll have to use pre-fixed ranges then. gnuplot doesn't do interdependency between axes. The new (in upcoming 4.2) feature of exporting the range end values to variables may help here, if you're OK with doing a "dummy" plot first, to find the numbers and copy them to the other axes. > b) I want that x-axis, z-axis and y-axis are always represented in z=0, > x=0 and y=0. Any way to do it? z-axis sometimes is represented in -6, is > a bit confusing :-) See 'help ticslevel'. That's all gnuplot can do for you about this. Note that zero-axes are already a problem in 2D plots, which gets considerably worse in 3D. They end up in a region where data should be, tending to make the scale, the data, or even both of them unreadable. |
