Hi

Sorry, when I post a question, which might have been posted already. But I
have no idea where (and which keywords) to search for this question.

I want to make function plots [ y = f(x), eg. y = sin(x)*cos(x) ] (no
problem with that).

I need the origin (0,0) (somewhere) in the middle of the screen - this is no
problem also, I manged this ;-)

I don't want to have a box or numbering around the plot (I managed to kill
the border [set border 0], but I have no Idea, how to get rid of the
numbering ).

I want to have the axes plottet including numbering of units. I managed to
paint the xzeroaxis and yzeroaxis, but I have no Idea how to number them in
the middle of the image. I need numbers -1, 0, 1, 2, ... AND marks at these
positions.

I need arrows at the end of the visible part of the axes to show, that the
axes does not end there.
I know how paint arrows, but is there a way to change the axes, that they
paint arrows themselfs?

Why all that questions?
The above way to paint coordinate systems is default in swiss high schools.
I think, there must or should be a simple way to configure gnuplot in that
way. 

Any hint that solves (even partly) my questions is welcome.

[Gnuplot-info] Octave-gnuplot interaction question. Octave meshc function.

I'm trying to fix a problem where octave's meshc function plots a mesh with a 
shifted colormap.  Here is the thread.

Essentially, we need to determine if octave is being interpreted as gnuplot 
intends it to be.

The z values for the contour lines are lower than for the mesh, and the 
colormap that is specified does not discount the lines, therefore the mesh 
only uses a shifted portion of the colormap.

It is likely that it can be worked around in octave, however jwe only wants to 
do this if gnuplot is functioning as is designed.  Can somebody who knows 
please verify that this is designed behavior and therefore not likely to 
change?

That's because you turned off drawing of the surface.  The key entry 
controlled by the "title" option is the one that goes with the surface. 
  Turning that off, the only key entry you're left with is the one for 
the contour line.

If you want a key entry under your control, I suspect you'll have to 
follow "help contour" on how to write the contour to a data file and 
plot that.

I've had the same question and have been searching for an answer for the
last several days.  I think the answer is that you can't do that with
gnuplot.  The only workaround I've found is to plot individual plots and
then use another program to aggregate them, for example using latex.  See
for example,

I'm thinking of moving to xmgrace to be able to do this.  Let me know if you
have any other ideas.  Also, possibly, a screen capture?  I've never done
that before and don't know how, but this may be worth investigating.

It definitely gives me white grid lines in the PS file. Hans' suggestion of gv -noantialias fixes up the image very nicely so it looks the same as the X11 version.

gnuplot 4.2.2
ESP Ghostscript 815.02 (2006-04-19)
gv 3.6.3

maybe I should try upgrading to ghostscript 8.15.3? Does anyone know of a why to "fix" the ps file so that -noantialias is unnecessary?

=46or what it's worth, the postscript plot output from 4.2.2 using those
commands produces no white grid line artifacts when viewed here
via ghostscript version 8.15.3 and gv version 3.6.1.
Toggling the anti-aliasing does not visibly change the rendered image.

The current ghostscript viewing glitches that I know about are:

1) Pattern fill areas are invisible unless you turn off antialiasing.

2) solid-fill areas made up of many adjacent rectangles, e.g. the
   colorbar in a pm3d plot, sometimes suffer from spurious grid lines.
   I do not know the cause of the "sometimes", but suspect it is due
   to different ghostscript versions.  These lines are rendering
   artifacts, not coordinate errors in the file.  They shift in position
   as you change the viewer magnification setting.

Both are known ghostscript bugs, and I don't know of any easy way to
fix things on our end.  We have speculated that using a scaled matrix
operation (as used in the "with image" code) to draw the colorbar all
in one go might work around the problem, but nobody has coded it up to
confirm this.

Turn off antialiasing in ghostscript, and they'll be gone.

Hello,

I am using gnuplot 4.2.2.

I am trying to generate some pm3d plots in postscript format.
When I execute these commands:

set pm3d map
set samples 100
set isosamples 100
set palette gray
set palette gamma 0.5
splot sin(sqrt(x**2 + y**2))/sqrt(x**2 + y**2)

-- the plot looks great (in the x11 terminal). Now if I do:

set term postscript enhanced
set out "test.ps"
replot

-- and I look at the file test.ps, the plot looks worse than the x11
version -- there are white grid lines throughout the image making it look
pretty bad. Does anyone know how to get rid of these ugly grid lines?

prevent gnuplot from automatically switching the scans order:

set pm3d scansforward

(try 'set pm3d scansbackward' to see the effect)

see the 'set pm3d' section in the gnuplot manual for more information

if i execute the script via 'call "poiseuille.plt"' a graphic
appears. so far so good.
if i click the flow image and try to rotate it sometimes gnuplot seems to
flip the image or the angle seems to change unsteady or so.
can't find the reason, so i think there's a bug.
for experiments with clicking and rotating the image for
your own, i've attached the 'poiseuille.plt'-file.

maybee you can repair gnuplot.

  As indicated in the original post, I was aware of the "pause
  mouse" feature.  But I did not elaborate on why I did not want to
  use it;  here's why:  With pause -1, the user can examine the plot
  by using all the commands that show up after typing h (such as p
  for previous zoom).  With "pause mouse", I do not know how to
  continue to offer the user those commands -- can it be done, and
  if so how?

That won't work.  If "pause -1" is in a script, and the user pressed 
'Cancel', the script is terminated.  You wouldn't reach that branch to 
decide anything.
