One of the things I have to do is to obtain the roots (x=0 and y=0) of my data (without fitting them). So in other words, I have to obtain the y-value of the point that is closest to the x-axis, and the x-value of the point closest to the y-axis. Is this possible to do with gnuplot? Greetings, PR |

vector graphics is best for this purpose, so you should use 'pdf'
- or 'postscript' if your gnuplot installation wasn't compiled with
the pdf libraries.
if the conversion from postscript to pdf results in quality loss, then
you should use another converter which translates the postscript
vector graphics commands to appropriate pdf commands
(or maybe use another pdf viewer).
when using the 'test' command output should go into a file
('set output <filename>') and not to the screen.

I have a data file (foo.csv) consisting x,y coordinates, and colours defined in hexadecimal % plot 'foo.csv' using 1:2:3 with lines lc rgb variable linewidth 8 title 'foochart' The above plots the data with perfect colouring. However if I add smoothing (for example csplines, but happens with other smoothing algorithms too) % plot 'foo.csv' using 1:2:3 with lines lc rgb variable linewidth 8 title 'foochart' smooth csplines I get short gradients of blue fading to black (if the associated y values are above 0), and yellow fading to white (if the associated y values are below 0). Is there any way to correct this problem? (short of not using smoothing) The problem occurs in both 4.4 rc1 and 4.5 csv. |

No. Because all such arguments already are script filenames. A single
argument can't be two different things at once.

Not need to. Piping the 'echo' command already does that. _If_ you use
the wgnuplot_pipes.exe or the (soon to become available) gnuplot.exe
console version, that is.
