Wow has this list been quite or have the posts stop coming to my inbox? = I think the last post I received was in December. I am an original syncit subscriber and when the site went down I set up = my own bookmarksync server with the help of this group. I am glad to say = that it works great! I have recently purchased a Mac Powerbook and I am lost with out the = ability to sync my bookmarks. I am using various work around methods such as exporting my favorites from my PC IE. However the Safari browser on the = Mac does not let you import so I am using the HTML page that IE generates to click on my favorites. Obviously syncing is not at all possible using = this method. I have two questions: 1) Is anyone working on a Mac client? 2) Can anyone share any work arounds with me? One problem I am having is = that I can not view my bookmarks that are located in folders when I use the index.php/view.php file on my syncit site. Perhaps someone has scripted = a php page that is mac and PC friendly. Any help would be appreciated. Craig |

Has anyone had time to look at activating support for Opera? The biggest flaw in this software has been its lack of Opera support (for me). There are a lot more Opera users out there than you think. Browser statistics in this regard are usually flawed because Opera identifies itself as IE by default. Hello all, I have changed the listening port of my web server from 80 to 8081. When I run the synchit client on Windows it no longer works. I have manually changed the port in the registry to reflect this change, but for some reason, it appears that the client overwrites it and just puts http://<machine name>/ instead of http://<machine name>:8081/. How do I change it so that is always writes it as http://machinename:8081 in the registry Thanks |

All, I'm wondering if there is a "999" bookmark limit hardcoded somewhere? Since things have seemed to stabilize a bit with the open-source version, I finally jumped in an sync'd my three machines together (used sync2it.com if it makes a difference). In the process, I received a message stating something to the effect of "you have 999 bookmarks on the server.... Would you like to merge the local bookmarks or overwrite them". When I first saw this, I didn't think much of it. However, I cleaned up a few bookmarks before installing the client on a different machine. I again saw the same message when I would have expected the "999" count to go down. That leads me to wonder if there is a hardcoded limit of 999 somewhere (or perhaps this is a limit that can be set when installing the server)? Thanks, David Robinson |

Good news and bad news Good: I've solved my problem! It appears that php and apache can be configured with conflicting directives. This causes the text corruption errors I was experiencing. phpMyAdmin FAQ 1.29 solves it (thank goodness!) http://www.phpmyadmin.net/documentation/#faq Bad: New problem! Firebird has changed the structure of its bookmarks file in the latest build. The special 'Bookmarks Toolbar Folder' is now duplicated, causing SyncIT to crash when bookmarks are in the 'special' folder. Also it there a way to get Firebird to refresh it's bookmarks upon sync? nope the debug.php isn't working for me at all. The toggle doesn't work. I edited the file and set $debug = true;. That made the page say that 'Debugging was enabled'. But there was no output. I dunno what's wrong with that file. However, I went into the MySQL database and set the config parameter debug to true. That did the trick. The file can be downloaded at http://bookmarksync.firebreathingdragons.com/debuglog.zip [111kb] There are several sync attempts. The first two are with no bookmarks. Then I copied a small folder of bookmarks to my Favorites folder. That went fine. Then I copied a larger folder of bookmarks - something got corrupted. SyncIT hung there for a while and then went 'offline'. The last one is me reconnecting by re-entering my email and password info. The client works fine again and doesn't hang now, but now I have a corrupt entry in my bookmarks. I made some notes in the debug.log file to show where things are happening. The only way to clear the corrupted bookmarks seems to be to drop the tables and redo everything from scratch. [I also noticed that sometimes (about 40% of the time) when executing the bookmarksync.sql queries, MySQL produces errors - also looking like text corruption errors. Not sure if this is related or not.] I'm not sure what's wrong. It's not the timeout length - I used the new recent client.php. I even reinstalled MySQL and PHP. This is driving me bananas. Thanks to all for the client.php tips and Steffen for the patched client.php. Things seem stable again. However for anyone else with this problem please note that you should **check all your bookmarks before uploading** again. Any corrupted bookmarks will make the client hang. (perhaps this calls for a patch to reject corrupted bookmarks?) I think perhaps this was my problem all along (and not the timeout issue) as I only have about 350 bookmarks. If I login at index.php and then manually browse debug.php, the toggle option does nothing. You can do this by adding the following line near the top of client.php: set_time_limit(120); The number 120 is the timeout period in seconds. Default is 30 seconds, increasing this to 2 minutes seems to work for everyone who has tried it so far. Since it seems the problem is being encountered more widely than I first thought, I will raise this issue as a bug on the Sourceforge page. David. |

I'm experiencing the same problem as Julien, but on my own server. My client will freeze, and the tooltip over the tray icon says SyncIT:Offline. Then it'll go back to SyncIT:syncing. But it never turns blue and purple. If I hit cancel in the Step 4 of 4 dialog box, it takes me back to Step 3. Upon clicking next, it crashes. At this point, my IE favorites looks fine, my Firebird bookmarks are not updated, and if I log on to my server I have half good, half garbled bookmarks. I've downloaded a new client, and recopied the server files. So is there something wrong with my MySQL server? Any ideas? If anyone wants to try my server and/or mysql server out to see what's wrong, drop me a return email. I'd love any help in getting this solved. I have over 2000 bookmarks, and saw exactly this problem the first time I uploaded them to the server, when it used to work fine with bookmarksync.com. It turned out that the time taken to upload and process all the bookmarks was causing the PHP script to time out. My solution was to increase the script timeout in client.php. I'm not sure how you could get around this if you are not running your own server. David. |

Regarding the new website I think it should give normal-user (like me!) :) info about actually services on and available to users to sync their bookmark, and with which options and extra services.
