Just one point: It used to be free. Not anymore. Just take a look at: http://www.sync2it.com/common/sales.php Or see their Latest News (01/30/2004): "Friday, 01/30/2004 Subscriptions Implemented [News] - admin - ad...@sy... @ 10:59:38 AM I have implemented a subscription based service model for Sync2It today. I'm not sure I understand your question, and I am not a representative of 2Go, but... If you want to synchronize your bookmarks, you'll need to download the client software after you register. From that point on, simply create or delete bookmarks as you normally would (e.g. within Internet Explorer via the 'Favorites' menu - the bookmarksyn client software will ensure that your bookmarks are recorded at 2Go's site). That is, you don't need to create bookmarks *at* the 2Go site; instead just create them on your local computer(s). If your question is concerning another topic, I would suggest that you ask the staff at 2Go directly, such as via e-mail --> mailto:co...@2g... Of course there is Sync2It.com also. We've just added a bookmark search engine (Sync2It Search) so you can search through the best and most popular bookmarked sites on the web. (No personal bookmark info is ever shared, of course). We are not free, ( it's a $9.95/yr subscription ) but we also don't have any banners ads, spyware, or email marketing. I feel the price is a fair value for the maintenance and bandwidth required to support a bookmark server, and you get what you pay for. The first three months at Sync2It.com are free however, so you can give us a try. I think we have one of the largest groups of previous and new Bookmarksync users. An advantage that a large group of users brings is the greater number of shared bookmark collections available for all users. If you feel a part of the Sync2It community, you're welcome to join! My $0.02: IF someone were working on a Linux client, I'd think it a good idea to make the client prog GUI-free so it can compile to Mac OSX or other Unix flavors as well. You know...configure it with text files...perhaps eventually build a native system GUI around it... Maybe I'm crazy, but I seem to remember a Mac client, was it OS9 only? I'm no programmer, so I don't intend to help anyone with their uber-nerd problems here. I had no problem installing the server software and the little program that runs on my computers is no hassle, either. Cheers, Graham |

I'd love to see OS-X support. I could have sworn I read somewhere =20 (here?) that someone had a semi-working python implementation. I'd =20 think it wouldn't be too difficult to craft together a command line app =20= that could be cron'd. I'm guessing the logic and network side of things are in CSV here, so =20= it's just a matter of finding some code that can talk to the OS-X =20 bookmark file (which I'm assuming is XML somewhere?) and getting the =20 two to talk. I'm sort of busy right now, but should have much more free time to =20 explore this in a few weeks. I'm no expert coder, but this stuff isn't =20= exactly rocket science either. I just realized that I replied only to CG, not the list. Reply below. Sorry for the dup, CG. Dear CG, While I never unsubscribed, I have in some senses moved on. I was originally turned on to bookmarksync back when it was a mac client in 1999. After a three year stint on mainly windows and some linux, I'm now back on mac. While I would love to start using bookmarksync tomorrow if it had a mac client as well, it became clear to me last winter that the energy just wasn't there for a mac client to happen anytime soon - reimplementing the windows end and the server was about it. I certainly don't have the energy to do it myself right now. I suspect that many mac users are buying .mac and using it as their version of bookmarksync. I'm thinking about just doing a pair of push-to-sync applescript for myself on the cheap that runs a safari export and then FTPs everything raw to a web-accessible folder - or deletes all bookmarks and then downloads everything and imports them. On the win-side, two batch files to upload and download from the same location, nuking the Favorites folder or whatever. Graceful? Not in any way. But better than nothing... Best, Jeremy |
